Short answer: “Blue team” is WARDOGS’ Lonestar faction, and Bulkhead has acknowledged that Lonestar has had a materially lower win rate than Valkyra (Red) and Manticore (Green). The developer has cited a combination of uniform visibility, some spawn locations and negative player sentiment—not a single confirmed cause. The published material does not provide faction percentages or document a skill-based matchmaking algorithm. Season 2 notes announce Lonestar incentives, spawn and visibility changes, team-switch restrictions and a catch-up discount, but the notes alone do not prove every change is live on your current build.
What players mean by “Blue team”
WARDOGS uses faction names in the game, while community discussions often use colors. Blue refers to Lonestar. The other factions are Valkyra, commonly called Red, and Manticore, commonly called Green.
| Community color | In-game faction | What is established publicly |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | Lonestar | Bulkhead identifies this faction as having the notably lower relative win rate. |
| Red | Valkyra | It shares the same published objective as the other factions. |
| Green | Manticore | John Brammer said Green wins most often in his public statement reported on September 17, 2026. |
There is no published evidence in the cited material of a faction-exclusive weapon, passive ability or objective rule that guarantees a particular team a win. All three factions contest the same Control Zone.
How a WARDOGS match is won
The official WARDOGS overview describes a 100-player, three-team mode built around one Control Zone. The zone is randomized inside a larger map measuring 256 km², and the zone itself measures 2×2 km. The team with the largest counted presence in the zone earns points at the game’s scoring intervals. The first team to reach 100 points wins.
#1 Best Overall
- Control, not kills, determines the result. Eliminations can help you hold or retake ground, but kill count is not the published win condition.
- Players in the zone are counted toward faction control. The team with the most counted players receives the point at a scoring interval.
- The shifting Hot Zone changes the value of positioning. The official overview says players in the Hot Zone count double toward control and generate double cash.
- Some live-build details remain unspecified. The overview does not establish a universal scoring cadence, so do not assume a fixed number of seconds between points unless your current in-game rules state it.
This scoring model explains why a faction can appear dominant in firefights yet still lose: holding the objective often matters more than accumulating kills away from it.
Is Lonestar really worse?
Yes, a relative problem has been acknowledged by the developer. Bulkhead’s Season 2 faction-balance notes state: “WARDOGS isn’t supposed to be perfectly balanced at all times. But one team has had a notoriously lower win rate than the other two.” The notes identify that team as Lonestar elsewhere in the same balance discussion.
The statement is directional, not a statistical release. The notes do not publish a percentage, sample size, date range, map split or regional split. Consequently, they support the conclusion that Lonestar has been performing worse on aggregate, but they do not support a claim such as “Blue wins 10% of matches.” The frequently repeated 60% Green, 30% Red and 10% Blue figures are not established by the cited official material.
A separate public statement gives more context without supplying a table. In a GamesRadar+ report dated September 17, 2026, Bulkhead CEO John Brammer was quoted as saying: “We definitely have a balancing issue, But it’s green team who win most of the time, green and red are fairly even.. and that’s been the same way since pre-alpha. But blue getting destroyed is definitely a problem with mixed reasons.”
That wording supports three limited conclusions: Green has generally won most often, Red and Green have been relatively close, and Blue’s poor results are real enough for the developer to call a balancing issue. It does not reveal how large the gaps are or whether they are identical on every map, server region, queue or period.
Why does Blue lose more often?
Bulkhead has named several contributing factors rather than one definitive explanation. Treat them as the developer’s hypotheses and observations, not as a quantified causal model.
Uniform visibility
The Season 2 notes identify Lonestar uniform visibility as a valid gameplay concern. If a faction is easier to see against common terrain or lighting, its players may be exposed sooner while moving toward or holding the zone. The notes announce more desaturated Lonestar uniforms as an intervention intended to reduce that visibility disadvantage.

Spawn positions
The studio also points to certain spawn positions. A spawn that produces a longer, more exposed or less convenient route to the Control Zone can reduce the time a team spends contesting the objective. Season 2 notes announce that all faction spawns on Bakurani would be moved.

Player sentiment and faction avoidance
Bulkhead says sentiment around Blue is the largest factor driving players not to choose Lonestar. A self-reinforcing loop is possible: players believe Blue is weak, avoid it or leave it, and the resulting population or squad composition makes the faction look even less attractive. That does not mean sentiment alone causes every defeat; the same notes separately cite visibility and spawn concerns, while Brammer describes the causes as mixed.
Population and coordination effects
The public material does not provide a map-by-map or team-composition analysis, so it cannot show whether every loss comes from the same population pattern. In a three-way objective mode, a faction can be punished when its players are divided, when one rival controls the zone while the other attacks it, or when friends consistently queue together for another faction. These are reasonable strategic effects of the published rules, not measured explanations supplied by Bulkhead.
Does WARDOGS use skill-balanced matchmaking?
No documented skill-rating or team-balancing algorithm appears in the cited official overview or Season 2 notes. Those sources explain the three-faction objective, faction-balance interventions and restrictions on switching, but they do not describe an MMR value, hidden rating, team-size formula or guarantee that each faction receives equal skill.

The accurate claim is therefore: the reviewed public material does not establish skill-based matchmaking. That is different from proving that no matchmaking logic exists. Team assignment might involve rules that have not been publicly documented, and the available sources do not establish whether assignment is always random, population-weighted or based on another method.

Do not interpret the existence of a catch-up mechanic or a switching restriction as proof of skill balancing. Those systems address faction population and momentum after players enter a match; they are not a published rating system.
What Season 2 announced for faction balance
Bulkhead’s Season 2 notes frame faction balance as an ongoing experiment, not a promise of perfect symmetry. The studio describes the changes as a “social experiment” to observe their effects on win rate and player perception over time.
| Announced measure | Detailed rule or scope | Intended problem addressed |
|---|---|---|
| Bakurani spawn changes | All faction spawns on Bakurani would be moved. | Spawn-position concerns. |
| Lonestar uniform change | Lonestar uniforms would be more desaturated. | Excessive visual visibility. |
| Lonestar win incentives | Season 2-only cash and XP bonuses for Lonestar wins, plus cash and XP multipliers during Season 2. | Discouraging avoidance and improving the appeal of choosing Lonestar. |
| Behind-team vendor discount | Any team at least 40 points behind second place receives a 20% vendor discount. | Giving a lagging faction an economic catch-up incentive. |
The notes and related reporting establish that these measures were announced. They do not, by themselves, verify that every item is active on the build you are playing on October 17, 2026. Check the current in-game patch information or the latest official notes before relying on a bonus, multiplier, discount or spawn layout.
How team switching is restricted
Season 2 notes also describe friction intended to limit switching abuse while still allowing players to join friends.

- Ten-point lead threshold: once a team is more than 10 points ahead, a player who joins that team cannot switch teams for 15 minutes after joining one.
- Obscured map after switching or late joining: if a player switches teams or joins a match in progress, the map remains obscured until that player first reaches the Control Zone.
- Spawn-vehicle restriction: the player cannot use the spawn vehicle until reaching the Control Zone for the first time.
These rules are anti-abuse measures, not evidence that the game is assigning equal skill to each side. They add a cost to chasing the leading faction while preserving a route for players who want to play with friends.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which faction should you choose?
Current evidence supports a practical choice rather than a “best faction” tier list. Use these priorities:
- Play with your squad first. Coordinated players can contest the Control Zone more reliably than a nominal faction advantage can compensate for an uncoordinated group.
- Choose Lonestar if you value the announced Season 2 incentives. The notes specifically reserve cash and XP bonuses or multipliers for Lonestar. Confirm that the bonuses are live before treating them as guaranteed.
- Consider current population only as a snapshot. A team with fewer players may receive a catch-up discount if it is at least 40 points behind second place, but the published material does not promise a particular queue balance or outcome.
- Do not select a faction for an unverified weapon or passive. No faction-specific combat advantage is established in the cited sources.
| Your priority | Evidence-based choice |
|---|---|
| Playing with friends | Join the faction your friends are using, subject to the active switching rules. |
| Taking advantage of Season 2 incentives | Consider Lonestar, then verify the current bonus text in your build. |
| Joining the team that is behind | Check the live score; the announced 20% vendor discount applies to any team at least 40 points behind second place. |
| Looking for a guaranteed win | No faction meets that standard in the published evidence. |
How to improve your result regardless of faction
Because the published win condition is objective control, the most defensible improvements are tied to that rule:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Move toward the Control Zone early enough to contribute counted presence rather than spending the entire round fighting away from it.
- When the Hot Zone shifts, treat the new location as strategically valuable: players there count double and generate double cash under the official overview.
- Coordinate your squad’s timing so that players arrive together, retake the zone after a wipe and avoid leaving the objective empty while chasing isolated opponents.
- Track the score and the 10-point switching threshold before attempting to change factions; a switch can trigger the map-obscuring and spawn-vehicle restrictions.
- Judge a faction by repeated matches, not one loss. A single three-team match is especially vulnerable to temporary population, spawn and coordination swings.
How to read Blue-team win-rate claims
Ask what the claim actually measures. A credible percentage needs at least a time period, sample size, region, map or mode scope and a definition of “win.” The official material provides none of those for faction percentages. It does provide concrete mode and balance figures: 100 players, three teams, a 2×2 km Control Zone inside a 256 km² map, a 100-point victory target, double Hot Zone counting and cash, a 20% vendor discount and a 40-point deficit threshold.
Those figures are rules or announced thresholds, not win-rate statistics. A developer’s qualitative statement that Green wins most often is useful evidence of direction, but it should not be presented as a complete live-data release. Until Bulkhead publishes a dated table or a reproducible breakdown, claims about exact Blue, Red or Green percentages remain unverified.
Bottom line on matchmaking and Blue losses
Blue means Lonestar, and the developer has acknowledged that Lonestar has been losing more often. The strongest supported explanation is mixed: visibility, spawn locations and player sentiment all matter, with sentiment identified as the largest driver of players avoiding Blue. WARDOGS’ published mode rewards control of the shared zone, not kill count, and no public source reviewed here documents skill-balanced matchmaking. Season 2 announces several attempts to change the incentives and reduce the disadvantages, but their live status must be checked against the current build.
