If you want stronger movie effects and music bass without running a speaker cable across the room, a soundbar bundled with a wireless subwoofer is the most direct solution. Connect the bar to your TV through HDMI ARC or eARC, plug both units into power, and let the subwoofer pair wirelessly. The best choice depends less on a headline wattage number than on bass controls, dialogue support, room size, bar height, surround format and how much extra speaker placement you are willing to manage.

Why a wireless subwoofer makes a soundbar sound fuller

A soundbar’s narrow cabinet has limited space to move air at very low frequencies. A separate subwoofer is designed for that job, giving explosions, drums and bass lines more headroom than a bar operating alone. Wireless pairing removes the signal cable between the two pieces, although both still require nearby power outlets.

Wireless does not mean placement is irrelevant. Bass changes with room position, walls and furniture, so move the subwoofer a little at a time and listen from your usual seat. Keep the port or driver area clear, and avoid trapping the cabinet tightly inside a closed shelf.

Soundbars with wireless subwoofers worth considering

Model Configuration and published specification Connection or control highlights Best fit
Polk Audio Signa S4 Dolby Atmos 3.1.2; wireless subwoofer; $449 listed on Polk’s product page HDMI or optical cable, plus aux-in for older TVs; automatic subwoofer connection; BassAdjust and VoiceAdjust Simple setup with dedicated bass and dialogue controls
Philips TAB5309/37 2.1 channels; 240 W maximum power; wireless subwoofer HDMI ARC; DTS Virtual:X; Dolby Digital Plus; four EQ modes; Dialogue Enhancement Compact systems focused on bass and straightforward tuning
TCL Q65H Dolby Atmos; up to 420 W; wireless subwoofer HDMI 2.1 eARC; AI Sonic-Adaptation; built-in center channel; named EISA Best Buy Soundbar 2025–2026 by TCL Viewers who want clearer speech and newer eARC connectivity
TCL Q75 Series 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos/DTS:X; 620 W maximum audio power; wireless subwoofer More surround and height processing than a basic 2.1 bar People seeking a larger, more cinematic layout
Yamaha True X Bar 90A Dolby Atmos support; wireless subwoofer eARC and CEC; one HDMI cable can carry TV audio while the TV remote controls power and volume Clean one-cable TV integration with flexible subwoofer placement
LG S95TR 9.1.5 channels; 17 speakers; triple up-firing speakers; wireless subwoofer and six-channel wireless rear speakers Full surround package rather than a minimal bar-and-sub bundle Large rooms and buyers prepared to place and power rear speakers

These figures are manufacturer-published specifications. No source provides a standardized, directly comparable bass-extension result such as an independently measured -3 dB frequency for every model, so wattage and channel counts should not be treated as proof that one reaches the lowest bass.

Which soundbar has the deepest bass?

There is no defensible winner from the published specifications alone. A separate subwoofer generally gives any of these systems more low-frequency capacity than a bar by itself, but room acoustics, placement, enclosure design and crossover tuning determine what you actually hear. Look for a subwoofer-level or blend control if you want to adjust impact without making the whole system loud.

For adjustable impact

The Signa S4 includes Polk’s BassAdjust control, allowing the subwoofer balance to be changed. Its manufacturer describes the wireless subwoofer as delivering deep bass and says it can be placed nearly anywhere, while automatic connection is intended to simplify startup.

Are wireless-subwoofer soundbars easy to set up?

Usually, yes. HDMI ARC or eARC is the preferred connection because one cable carries TV audio and supports control features. Optical is a practical fallback for older televisions. CEC can let the television remote adjust soundbar volume and power; Yamaha specifically describes this one-cable arrangement for the True X Bar 90A.

  1. Place the bar under the television, checking that its height does not block the screen or the TV’s infrared receiver.
  2. Connect the bar’s HDMI ARC/eARC port to the television’s matching ARC/eARC port. If the TV lacks ARC, use optical; on older compatible sets, an aux connection may be available.
  3. Connect the soundbar and subwoofer to power. Wireless pairing carries the audio signal, not electricity.
  4. Turn on the TV and select the soundbar input. Enable HDMI-CEC if you want the TV remote to control volume and power.
  5. Run any on-screen audio setup, then adjust subwoofer level, dialogue enhancement or voice controls from the bar’s remote or app.
  6. Play familiar dialogue and bass-heavy material while testing the subwoofer in two or three positions. Choose the location that sounds full without boomy notes.

How to choose by room, immersion and dialogue

Small rooms and minimum fuss

A 2.1 system such as the Philips is easier to accommodate than a package with rear speakers. It emphasizes the front soundstage and bass while limiting the number of units that need outlets and placement.

Medium rooms and clearer speech

Center-channel designs anchor voices in the middle of the screen. The TCL Q65H highlights a built-in center channel, while Polk’s VoiceAdjust and Philips’ Dialogue Enhancement provide additional speech-focused controls.

Large rooms and surround immersion

Atmos layouts such as 3.1.2 or 5.1.2 add height processing or up-firing channels. The LG S95TR goes further with 9.1.5 channels, 17 speakers and six-channel wireless rear speakers, but every rear unit needs a suitable position and a power connection. More speakers can improve immersion while making installation and troubleshooting more involved.

Furniture and placement checks

  • Measure the bar against the gap between the TV and stand; a tall bar can obscure the bottom of the picture or the television’s sensor.
  • Leave open space around the subwoofer and avoid placing it where doors, vents or cabinetry block it.
  • Confirm that every wireless component can reach a power outlet before buying.
  • Expect bass to change when the subwoofer moves, even though its audio connection is wireless.

Smart features: useful, but not always simpler

Wi-Fi, mobile apps and automatic room correction can add streaming options and tuning flexibility. They also introduce account setup, network permissions and additional troubleshooting. Tom’s Guide’s buying guidance recommends avoiding app-heavy models when plug-and-play simplicity is the priority. For a basic TV upgrade, HDMI ARC/eARC, a reliable remote and physical bass or dialogue controls may be more valuable than a longer feature list.

Common problems and fixes

No sound from the bar

Verify that the cable is connected to the TV’s ARC/eARC port rather than an ordinary HDMI input, select the corresponding soundbar input, and set the TV audio output to HDMI ARC/eARC. If ARC is unavailable, switch to optical and select PCM or the TV’s compatible bitstream mode.

The subwoofer is silent

Check its power indicator and outlet, restart both units, and keep the subwoofer within a reasonable distance of the bar while pairing. Wireless pairing removes the signal cable but cannot overcome a disconnected power cord.

Dialogue is hard to understand

Enable the model’s dialogue or voice mode, reduce excessive subwoofer level, and confirm that the TV is not forcing an incompatible surround output. A center-channel system can provide a more anchored speech image than a simple 2.1 layout.

Bass sounds boomy

Lower the subwoofer level and try a different position, especially a small move away from a corner or wall. Room reinforcement can make the same subwoofer sound balanced in one location and excessive in another.
