If you are looking for a modern alternative to VLC, the title alone does not identify a particular app. Two candidates documented in the available sources are mpv and Lumen Player, but they differ in how they present and support their features. Before switching, try VLC’s documented fixes for subtitle timing or certain video-image errors; if you still want another player, choose based on your preferred setup style rather than an unverified performance claim.

Try these three VLC adjustments for specific problems
These are documented troubleshooting options in VLC, not proof that VLC is universally better or that changing a setting improves every computer. The Windows FAQ paths can vary by version, so use the preferences search or consult the documentation for your installed release if a label differs.
1. Toggle GPU decoding when certain video errors appear
VideoLAN’s Windows FAQ suggests testing hardware/GPU decoding enabled or disabled for certain H.264 or VC-1 image errors. After changing the decoding setting, save the change and restart VLC. 2. Adjust subtitle delay in 50 ms steps
If subtitles appear early or late, VLC’s Windows FAQ documents changing subtitle delay in 50-millisecond steps. Adjust in the direction that brings the text into sync, then reassess during playback. If your complaint is about a particular behavior, inspect the relevant category before concluding that VLC cannot be configured. Choose based on workflow, not an assumed speed winner
The documentation establishes different setup styles and feature claims, but it does not establish a controlled performance winner across machines. There is no basis here to promise that an alternative will play video faster, look better, or fix a problem VLC cannot. Match the player to how you want to work: VLC exposes broad preferences, mpv offers a configuration-focused workflow, and Lumen Player advertises a set of convenience features that you should verify with the vendor.
