Change one setting first: enable Origin Workbench at Settings > Foldable Devices > Origin Workbench, then swipe inward from the bottom-right corner to open it. vivo documents this gesture on its Europe product page, and it gives you an immediate shortcut to the foldable’s multitasking workspace.
After that, review display, battery, notification, privacy and camera options on your own software build. There is no verified universal “best” configuration: menu names and available controls vary by region and OriginOS version, so treat the exact labels on your phone as authoritative.
1. Enable Origin Workbench before changing anything else
Origin Workbench is the most clearly documented, model-specific setting for the X Fold 6. It is designed to make the large inner screen useful for multitasking rather than simply giving you a larger version of the cover display.

- Open Origin Workbench.
- Turn on the gesture toggle.
- From any screen, swipe inward from the bottom-right corner to launch Workbench.

Use the gesture on the inner display first, where multitasking has the most room. vivo associates Workbench with multi-split-screen multitasking and AI cross-app drag, so it can become a central part of a two-app workflow: for example, keeping a document or browser open while moving content into another app. If you dislike corner gestures, leave the toggle off; the feature is optional and does not affect basic calling, photography or single-app use.
The route above is documented for vivo’s European product page. Your phone may show a different menu name, or the option may be grouped under another foldable-device section. Do not force a match with an online screenshot; search Settings for Workbench or Foldable and follow the labels on your installed build.
2. Confirm which software build you actually have
Before changing secondary settings, identify the software context because the X Fold6 is not described identically in every market. vivo’s India newsroom announcement identifies the phone with OriginOS 7. A Chinese vivo specification listing describes OriginOS 6 Fold based on Android 16. Those descriptions do not establish that every international unit has the same release, nor that an update in one market appears at the same time elsewhere.

In practice, the version shown in your phone’s system-information screen is more useful than a generic setup guide. When a guide uses a label you cannot find:
- Open Settings search and enter a distinctive term such as Workbench, refresh, battery, notifications or permissions.
- Check whether the result belongs to the inner display, cover display, app-management or privacy area.
- Read the explanatory text before enabling a restriction, especially for background activity and notifications.
- Take a screenshot of the current page before making several changes, so you can reverse one decision without resetting unrelated options.
This approach avoids applying an OriginOS 7 instruction to an OriginOS 6 Fold build, or assuming a regional translation uses the same hierarchy as the European software shown in vivo’s product material.

3. Tune the displays for your own trade-off
The X Fold6 gives you two screens with different jobs: a compact cover display for quick interactions and a larger inner display for reading, editing and multitasking. Display settings should therefore be chosen by comfort and battery priorities, not copied as a universal preset.
Smoothness versus battery runtime
Look for the display option that controls refresh behavior. A higher or adaptive refresh mode can make scrolling and animation feel smoother, while a lower or fixed mode can reduce power use in situations where you do not need maximum fluidity. The available choices and their exact names were not confirmed in the manufacturer material cited here, so use the explanation shown on your device rather than assuming a particular default.
Comfort for long sessions
Review brightness automation, color temperature and any eye-comfort or nighttime controls that your build exposes. Set a level that remains legible without forcing maximum brightness indoors. If you read on the inner panel for long periods, schedule a warmer evening profile if your software offers one; if color accuracy matters for photo work, use the neutral profile while editing and switch back afterward.
Cover-screen behavior
Check whether your build lets you choose which apps continue when you fold the phone, whether an app restarts on the other display, and how the lock screen behaves during a fold. These are preference decisions rather than corrections to a known X Fold6 defect. Change one behavior at a time and test with the apps you use most.
4. Protect timely notifications before applying battery controls
Battery-management panels often combine background limits, auto-start permissions and per-app power modes. Those controls can extend standby time, but an aggressive restriction may delay messages, calendar alerts or calls from collaboration apps.

Make a notification list first
Write down the apps for which timing matters: messaging, authentication, transport, health or work tools. For those apps, inspect their notification and background-activity entries and choose the least restrictive option that still meets your battery needs. The exact path and labels are build-dependent, so use Settings search and the app’s own notification page rather than following an unverified menu sequence.

Use restrictions selectively
For games, shopping apps or services you rarely open, a more restrictive background mode may be reasonable. Do not apply that setting to every app simply because a battery guide recommends it. After each change, send yourself a test message or wait for a scheduled alert while the phone is idle. If it arrives late, remove the restriction from that app before changing anything else.
Understand the capacity claim
vivo’s India announcement describes an equivalent 6,900 mAh battery, with 80 W wired FlashCharge and 40 W wireless FlashCharge. These are India-market manufacturer specifications, not independent battery-life measurements. They describe charging hardware and an equivalence figure; they do not guarantee a particular number of screen-on hours or justify disabling notifications to chase a benchmark.
5. Review permissions and privacy one app at a time
Foldables tend to accumulate more apps because the large screen encourages productivity, media and camera use. That makes a permission review worthwhile, but there is no evidence here for a single X Fold6 privacy switch that everyone should enable.
- Camera and microphone: keep access enabled only for apps that genuinely record, scan or make calls. Revoke it from utilities that have no clear reason to use either sensor.
- Location: prefer an “only while in use” choice when continuous tracking is unnecessary. Navigation, emergency and fitness features may need broader access; decide per app.
- Photos and files: use a selected-items option if your build provides one and an app only needs to import a few images.
- Notifications: allow time-critical alerts, but silence promotional categories inside the app’s notification controls rather than blocking every notification.
- Clipboard, contacts and nearby-device access: check these after installing a new productivity or sharing app, especially if you use AI cross-app drag or device-to-device transfer.
Android and OriginOS names can differ, so search Settings for the permission type or open the app’s information page. Recheck permissions after a major system update; an update can add a new permission category or move an existing control.

6. Set up the camera around how you shoot
vivo’s Europe product page lists a 200 MP ZEISS main camera and a ZEISS APO telephoto camera. Those are manufacturer-listed hardware specifications, not results from an independent camera test. The useful first step is to open the camera and learn which controls your build actually exposes before changing defaults.
For everyday photos
Keep the standard photo mode as your baseline and test the available resolution, HDR, night and motion options in the conditions where you normally shoot. A high-resolution mode can create larger files and may behave differently in low light; whether that trade-off benefits you depends on cropping and storage needs. Do not assume that selecting the largest number always produces the best result.
For telephoto work
vivo also names the ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2. It is a niche accessory for owners who regularly photograph distant subjects, not a requirement for setting up the phone. Before buying one, verify local availability, exact X Fold6 compatibility and whether your camera app supports the intended focal-length workflow. Ordinary users can ignore the accessory and concentrate on stabilizing the built-in telephoto camera.
Preserve your preferred controls
If your camera build offers options to remember the last-used mode, grid, watermark or shutter behavior, change only the controls you understand and then take several test photos. The available paths and defaults were not established in the cited vivo pages, so this is a personal workflow choice rather than a prescribed X Fold6 setting.

7. Build a foldable multitasking routine
Once Workbench is enabled, try it with the tasks that benefit from the inner display instead of opening every app in split screen by habit. vivo highlights multi-split screen and AI cross-app drag as core capabilities. A practical test is to place a source app beside a destination app, then drag a selected item only when the destination clearly indicates that it accepts the drop.

Keep a short list of reliable combinations, such as browser plus notes or mail plus calendar. If a particular app scales poorly, shows clipped controls or loses its state during a fold, use it full-screen and reserve split view for apps that are designed to cooperate. This produces a more predictable setup than enabling every multitasking feature at once.

9. What to do when a setting is missing
If you cannot find Origin Workbench or one of the display, battery or permission controls described above, do not assume your phone is defective. The documented Workbench route comes from vivo Europe, while official India and Chinese materials describe different OriginOS generations.
- Open Settings search and try the feature name, an abbreviated term and the local-language label if your phone uses one.
- Check the installed OriginOS and Android versions in the system-information area.
- Look under the foldable-device, display, app-management and privacy categories rather than copying a regional screenshot.
- Restart the phone after a system update and search again; some settings appear only after the relevant component finishes updating.
- If the feature is still absent, contact vivo support for your market and quote the exact model and software build. Do not install an unofficial package merely to obtain a menu shown for another region.

After your first round of changes, fold and unfold the phone while testing the following:

Keep the configuration that solves a problem you actually have. Everything beyond the documented Workbench gesture is a choice among comfort, battery behavior, notification reliability, privacy and camera workflow—not a mandatory checklist.
