Visa reported fiscal third-quarter 2026 net revenue of $11.6 billion, up 14% year over year, and diluted earnings per share of $2.97 under GAAP and $3.32 on a non-GAAP basis. Its board’s $20 billion multi-year share-repurchase authorization was announced in April, not as a new Q3 purchase. The company’s release reports results but does not provide an analyst-consensus estimate, and the available figures do not establish whether Visa shares jumped after the announcement or whether the results beat expectations.
What Visa reported for fiscal Q3 2026
Visa announced its fiscal third-quarter results on July 28, 2026. The quarter ended June 30. The company reported $11.6 billion in net revenue, a 14% increase from the year-earlier quarter, or 13% growth in constant dollars. Constant-dollar growth removes the effect of currency fluctuations; it is not the same measure as reported growth.

GAAP and non-GAAP earnings per share are not interchangeable. GAAP is the standard reported accounting measure. Visa’s non-GAAP figure excludes specified special items and related tax effects, so it should be read as an adjusted measure rather than a replacement for GAAP EPS.

Did Visa beat earnings expectations, and did its stock jump?
The reported results alone cannot establish an earnings beat. Visa’s July 28 earnings release gives the company’s actual revenue and EPS, but does not identify an analyst-consensus estimate for comparison. Without a consensus figure, the size or existence of an earnings surprise is unverified.

Nor do the reported operating results establish that Visa shares jumped after the release or that earnings caused a particular share-price move. A claim about a jump needs a dated stock-price source and a defined comparison window, such as the prior close to the next close. The results and the share-price reaction are separate questions.
What Visa’s $20 billion repurchase authorization means
Visa’s board authorized a new $20.0 billion multi-year Class A share-repurchase program in April 2026, announced alongside the company’s fiscal Q2 results. An authorization gives the company permission to buy shares over time; it does not mean that Visa spent $20 billion in Q2 or Q3.

In the three months ended June 30, Visa repurchased about 14.5 million Class A shares for $4.9 billion. Separately, its Form 10-Q reported $28.4 billion in remaining authorized funds across its repurchase programs as of June 30. That total covers remaining authorization across programs, not just the new $20 billion program.

Visa reported several measures of activity on its network for the three months ended June 30, 2026. Each captures a different aspect of the business; none is a direct measure of all consumer spending.

- Processed transactions: 71.7 billion, up 10% year over year.
Payments volume reflects the value of payments routed over Visa’s network, cross-border volume isolates a particular category of network activity, and processed transactions count transactions. They are related indicators, but should not be treated as equivalent measures or as a complete account of household expenditure.
What Visa said about U.S. credit and debit activity
On its April 28, 2026, fiscal Q2 earnings call, Visa management reported that U.S. payments volume was up 9% year over year through April 21, in constant dollars. Within that interim snapshot, credit volume was up 10% and debit volume was up 8%.

Those figures describe activity on Visa’s U.S. network through a specific date, not the full June quarter or all U.S. consumer spending. They support a description of growing Visa-network payment activity, but not a broad claim that a general “credit card culture boom” has been established.
How to interpret management’s resilience comments
Visa CEO Ryan McInerney described consumer and business spending as resilient in the company’s July 28 Q3 release. That is management’s characterization of the quarter. The reported revenue, EPS, payment-volume, cross-border-volume and transaction figures provide the company’s accompanying operating context; they do not independently verify a broad economic conclusion about all consumers or spending.
