If K/DA’s animated idols, polished pop production and game-world presentation appeal to you, start with MAVE:, PLAVE and Feverse for the closest Korean virtual-group experience. Add Gorillaz and Hatsune Miku for the wider history of character-led music, Tokino Sora for the livestreaming VTuber side, and Studio Killers for animated electropop outside a game setting.

These acts are not all built in the same way. “Virtual pop” can mean an animated fictional band, a synthesized singing character, a game-linked idol, a fully virtual K-pop group, or a VTuber who releases music. The format changes how you discover songs, follow the characters and interact with fans, so the best alternative depends on what you want to retain from K/DA.

What makes K/DA different from an ordinary pop group?

K/DA is a virtual K-pop-inspired girl group created by Riot Games from League of Legends characters. The members function as pop performers, fictional characters and parts of a game universe at the same time. Music videos and visual identity do much of the storytelling, while the game connection gives the project a ready-made world and audience.

That combination creates several possible meanings of “like K/DA.” You might want:

  • a Korean virtual group rather than a Western animated band;
  • regular livestreams, fan interaction and original recordings; or
  • music connected to a game or another entertainment franchise.

The seven recommendations below cover those interpretations instead of pretending that every virtual act uses the same production model.

Seven alternatives at a glance

Act Best fit Avatar or performance format Primary listening experience
Gorillaz A complete animated-band universe Animated fictional band Genre-blending pop, hip-hop and rock with character-led videos and lore
Hatsune Miku Vocaloid experimentation and creator-made music Synthesized singing character and avatar Electronic music, a large creator ecosystem, concerts and merchandise
MAVE: The closest polished Korean virtual-girl-group route Digital avatars presented as an idol group Idol-style releases and visual presentation
PLAVE Contemporary virtual K-pop and fan-focused idol presentation Virtual K-pop act Pop releases combined with an active idol-fandom approach
Studio Killers Animated electropop without a game tie-in Animated band Electropop with a distinctly European identity
Feverse A Korean virtual girl group with a documented global debut Virtual girl group Idol-oriented pop introduced through the album CHO
Tokino Sora / hololive Frequent virtual performances and direct fan interaction VTuber talent and livestreaming virtual idol Video uploads, live entertainment and original recordings

The table is a starting point, not a ranking. The sections that follow explain what each project offers and where it differs from K/DA.

1. Gorillaz: the foundational animated-band choice

Why it belongs on a K/DA listening list

Gorillaz is the natural first stop if the part you love most is the idea of a fictional band whose members have recognizable personalities and a world beyond the songs. The group is treated in virtual-pop history as a foundational character-based music act. Its appeal comes from the animated band concept itself, rather than from a game roster or a conventional celebrity group.

That makes Gorillaz a useful bridge between K/DA and older virtual-pop ideas. Both projects make the visual identity of their characters central to the music. Both can move between pop and other genres while maintaining a coherent fictional presentation. The difference is that Gorillaz is not a Korean idol group and is not built around League of Legends characters.

What you will hear

Gorillaz is the broadest genre change of the seven recommendations. The project blends pop, hip-hop and rock, so listeners should expect more stylistic movement than a tightly defined K-pop concept. If you want every recommendation to stay close to glossy idol-pop production, begin with MAVE:, PLAVE or Feverse instead. If you want to understand how an animated act can sustain a long-running identity across different sounds, start here.

How to approach the catalogue

  1. Watch an official music video first, because the characters and visual world are part of the introduction.
  2. Then listen across several releases rather than judging the project from one genre or one visual era.
  3. Keep the animated-band premise in mind: the fictional members are the consistent thread while collaborators and musical styles can change.

Gorillaz is best for a listener who wants lore and character-driven presentation without requiring a K-pop or game connection.

2. Hatsune Miku: the creator ecosystem behind Vocaloid pop

Why Miku is unlike a conventional virtual group

Hatsune Miku is a synthesized singing character and avatar, not a fixed band whose members record vocals in the ordinary way. Spotify has described Crypton Future Media as dominating the Vocaloid market through its characters, while noting that competing companies have offered alternatives. The important consequence for a K/DA listener is scale: Miku is a platform for music made by many creators, not a single producer’s catalogue with one stable sound.

If K/DA’s digital identity makes you curious about how a non-human performer can become a pop star, Miku is the most direct answer. The voice is software-based, and individual creators shape the arrangement, lyrics, genre and visual treatment. That produces a much wider range of electronic music than a typical idol-group discography.

  • VARIETY: Includes multiple designs and poses of Hatsune Miku, perfect for customizing personal items
  • COMPACT SIZE: Sticker pad format keeps all sheets together and protected for easy storage and transport

What you will hear and see

Expect electronic music and substantial variation from one creator to another. Some releases may feel close to dance-pop; others may be experimental or built around different electronic approaches. The avatar provides continuity, while the creator ecosystem provides variety.

The official MIKU EXPO project documents both live performance and merchandising. That makes Miku one of the clearest examples of a virtual character extending beyond recorded tracks into concerts and physical products. A concert is still a designed performance rather than a traditional human singer standing on stage, but it is a live event with its own production and audience experience.

Who should choose Miku?

  • Choose Miku if you want the largest range of creator-led electronic music.
  • Choose Miku if the technology of synthesized vocals interests you as much as the songs.
  • Choose Miku if concerts, character goods and a broad fan-made ecosystem matter to you.

Miku is less like a single K-pop group and more like an entire virtual-music culture organized around a recognizable singing character.

3. MAVE:: the closest polished Korean virtual-girl-group route

Why it is the nearest structural match

MAVE: is the strongest recommendation for readers who want the Korean virtual-girl-group side of K/DA. The project is listed among major virtual-group examples, and its presentation centers on digital avatars with a polished idol image. That makes it a better match for the “virtual K-pop girl group” request than an animated band or a Vocaloid character.

The similarity is about format and presentation, not identical music or fictional continuity. MAVE: does not turn every virtual-pop characteristic into the same game-lore package used by K/DA. Instead, its value is the recognizable grammar of an idol group: coordinated members, carefully designed visuals and a release presentation intended to be consumed as pop entertainment.

What to pay attention to

Start with the group’s official videos and performances so you can see how the digital avatars are staged. Then decide whether the idol presentation itself is what keeps you engaged. If you mainly want animated storytelling, Gorillaz or Studio Killers may be more satisfying. If you want ongoing direct interaction, Tokino Sora and hololive offer a more livestream-oriented format.

Best listener profile

Pick MAVE: first when your search terms are “virtual K-pop girl group,” “digital idol members” or “something with K/DA’s polished group presentation.” It is the most focused recommendation for that particular request.

4. PLAVE: contemporary virtual K-pop with a fan-focused identity

What sets PLAVE apart

PLAVE is identified as a virtual K-pop act and is a strong choice for listeners who want a contemporary idol presentation with an emphasis on fans. It sits closer to the current virtual-idol ecosystem than to the older animated-band tradition, so the appeal is not only the visual design of the members but also the sense of an idol project built for an active fan community.

  • FUN FOR ALL AGES: Whether you're a long-time fan or new to the Vocaloid phenomenon, this micro figure is an essential addition to your collection. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

For a K/DA listener, PLAVE preserves the idea that virtual performers can be followed as a group rather than encountered only as characters in a music video. That makes it a useful next step if you want to move from occasional cinematic releases toward a more conventional idol-fandom relationship.

How to decide whether it is for you

  1. Begin with the group’s official music releases to judge the pop and K-pop foundation.
  2. Look at the surrounding official content to see whether the fan-focused presentation is the part you enjoy.
  3. Compare your reaction with MAVE:. If you prefer a highly polished avatar concept, MAVE: may be the better fit; if the relationship with fans is more important, PLAVE is the stronger choice.

PLAVE is recommended for listeners who want K-pop conventions and virtual members without requiring a specific game franchise.

5. Studio Killers: animated electropop with a European identity

Why it is a useful change of pace

Studio Killers belongs to the animated-band tradition, but its identity is European rather than Korean and it is not presented as a game tie-in. That distinction matters if you like K/DA’s visual fiction but want to hear how the concept works outside idol culture and franchise entertainment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The project is best described as animated electropop. Its sound gives you a more focused electronic direction than Gorillaz’s pop, hip-hop and rock blend, while its presentation keeps the fictional-band element that connects it to K/DA.

When to choose it

  • Choose Studio Killers when you want animated performers but not a game-world narrative.
  • Choose it when electropop is a higher priority than K-pop styling.
  • Choose it as a palate cleanser between Korean virtual groups and Vocaloid releases.

Studio Killers demonstrates that “virtual pop” does not have to mean a Korean idol project, a game character or a livestreamer. It can simply be an animated act with a clear regional and musical identity.

6. Feverse: a Korean virtual girl group with a defined global debut

The documented starting point

Feverse is a Korean virtual girl group from Kakao Entertainment. Kakao Entertainment announced on May 9, 2023 that the group would make its global debut with the album CHO on music platforms in Korea and around the world at 6 p.m. that day. That date and release give listeners a clear entry point rather than an undefined promise of future virtual music.

For someone coming from K/DA, Feverse offers another direct route into virtual Korean group presentation. It is closer in category to MAVE: and PLAVE than to Gorillaz or Hatsune Miku because the project is explicitly a virtual girl group rather than an animated band or a single synthesized character.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How it compares with the other Korean options

MAVE: is the recommendation when polished digital-idol presentation is your top priority. PLAVE is the recommendation when contemporary virtual K-pop and fan focus matter most. Feverse gives you a third route: a group with a specifically documented global debut and an album-based starting point.

Because virtual projects can change their release schedules, availability and surrounding content, use the official release pages and current music services to confirm what is accessible in your region. The May 9, 2023 announcement establishes the debut timing; it does not guarantee that every later activity or product remains available everywhere.

7. Tokino Sora and hololive: the VTuber side of virtual music

Why this is a different kind of recommendation

Tokino Sora represents the VTuber branch of virtual pop. Victor Entertainment describes her as hololive Production’s first virtual talent, launched in 2017. She released the album Dreaming! in 2019 and surpassed one million YouTube subscribers in 2022.

Those milestones illustrate a different relationship between performer and audience. K/DA is primarily encountered through songs, videos and fictional-world presentation. A VTuber such as Tokino Sora can provide ongoing video uploads, live entertainment and original recordings. The character is not only a music-video persona; she is also a continuing online entertainer.

What to expect as a listener

  • Music is one part of a broader stream of virtual entertainment.
  • Live appearances and regular uploads can matter as much as studio releases.
  • Fan interaction is more immediate than in an animated-band project that communicates mainly through videos and lore.

Choose Tokino Sora and hololive when your ideal K/DA alternative includes a performer you can follow over time, not just a group you watch when a new music video arrives. If you prefer a self-contained fictional band, Gorillaz or Studio Killers will feel more focused.

Choose by the part of K/DA you want to keep

If you want the closest Korean virtual-idol format

Start with MAVE:, then try PLAVE and Feverse. These three keep the virtual Korean-group premise most directly. MAVE: emphasizes polished digital-idol presentation, PLAVE emphasizes contemporary virtual K-pop and fan focus, and Feverse provides a clearly dated global album debut.

If you want a larger virtual-pop history

Start with Gorillaz and Hatsune Miku. Gorillaz shows how a character-based animated band can support genre-blending pop, hip-hop and rock. Miku shows how a synthesized avatar can support a creator ecosystem whose music is not limited to one band or one producer.

If you want regular interaction instead of occasional releases

Choose Tokino Sora and explore hololive’s broader virtual-talent ecosystem. The defining benefit is the combination of uploads, live entertainment and original recordings, rather than a single fixed music-video narrative.

Avatar formats explained

The word “virtual” hides meaningful differences. Knowing the format helps you set expectations before you start listening.

Animated fictional bands

Gorillaz and Studio Killers use animated-band identities. Music videos and character design carry much of the narrative, and the fictional members are the visible performers. This format is closest to a traditional animated act with a continuing cast.

Synthesized singing characters

Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid singing character. The avatar and voice technology are consistent enough to create recognition, but creators can make very different songs around them. The result is an ecosystem rather than one uniform group sound.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Digital idol groups

MAVE:, PLAVE and Feverse are virtual group projects organized around the visual and social conventions of idol pop. Their members are presented as a coordinated group, which makes them the most direct alternatives for someone searching specifically for virtual K-pop.

VTuber music

Tokino Sora and hololive show how a virtual talent can combine music with livestreams, videos and ongoing fan contact. The performer’s activity is broader than a normal album cycle, so discovery often involves watching as well as listening.

Merchandise, concerts and availability

Physical products are not equally documented across these seven acts. Hatsune Miku has the clearest established merchandise path: the official MIKU EXPO information covers merchandising as well as live performance. For the other projects, product availability should be checked title by title through current official channels rather than assumed from the existence of a virtual group.

Live access also varies by format. MIKU EXPO documents live performances for Miku. Tokino Sora’s VTuber model is built around live entertainment and ongoing uploads. Animated bands and virtual idol groups may release videos and recordings without offering the same kind of regular livestream schedule. Check the current event calendar, platform availability and regional restrictions before planning around a specific performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical first-week listening plan

You can sample all seven without treating them as interchangeable. Use the following order to move from the closest K/DA match to the widest definition of virtual pop.

  1. Begin with MAVE:. Test whether polished Korean digital-idol presentation is the main appeal you are seeking.
  2. Move to PLAVE. Look for the difference between a purely visual concept and a more fan-focused virtual K-pop identity.
  3. Try Feverse. Use CHO, released globally on May 9, 2023, as the documented starting point.
  4. Switch to Gorillaz. Compare the Korean virtual-group model with a character-based animated band whose sound spans pop, hip-hop and rock.
  5. Explore Hatsune Miku. Sample several creator-led electronic releases so you hear the breadth of the Vocaloid ecosystem.
  6. Play Studio Killers. Use animated electropop as a contrast to both K-pop and Vocaloid production.
  7. Finish with Tokino Sora and hololive. Add video uploads and live entertainment to the listening experience and decide whether ongoing interaction improves the format for you.

This sequence answers the most common “what should I listen to after K/DA?” question while preserving the important distinctions between the acts.
