The weight figures should not be treated as interchangeable or averaged: Viltrox’s figure is specifically for its Sony E page and says bare lens, while TechRadar reports a different figure without a stated explanation for the discrepancy. Check the mount-specific product information if weight is a deciding factor. The 25.8 mm length is why review coverage describes the lens as a pancake-style prime.

How does it perform in the review?
TechRadar reviewer Tim Coleman described the lens as lightweight and convenient for everyday photography. He found its optical quality impressive given its small size, while qualifying that it was not the sharpest lens he had used. In his experience, shooting at f/2.8 did not produce a discernible sharpness drop compared with the lens’s best range around f/5.6–f/8.
Those are one reviewer’s observations, not a controlled result for every camera body or lens copy. They suggest that you need not assume f/2.8 is unusable, but they do not establish identical performance across both mounts or all shooting conditions. The f/2.8 maximum aperture lets in more light and can produce shallower depth of field than a slower lens, but it does not guarantee a particular background-blur character.

Can you use filters, and what size do they need to be?
The lens has a 43 mm filter thread, so a compatible filter must be 43 mm. Viltrox describes the hood as filter-ready. A filter is optional: use a polarizer to manage reflections or an ND filter when you need to reduce incoming light, for example. If stacking filters, check clearance with the hood and the specific filter thickness.

Viltrox’s July 15, 2026 launch announcement listed launch prices of $299 USD, €319 EUR, and £279 GBP, and says regional pricing and availability vary. When accessed on October 7, 2026, Viltrox’s Sony E page showed $299 and out of stock. Those are dated listings, not a guarantee of today’s price or inventory; check the current listing for the correct mount.

The EVO is a plausible choice if you want a small full-frame autofocus prime with f/2.8, a filter thread, and manual control rings, and you are comfortable with the review’s qualified praise of its image quality. If absolute minimum size and price are your priorities, TechRadar’s comparison points to the 28mm F4.5 instead. The evidence here does not establish camera-by-camera autofocus behavior or controlled optical results across the Sony E and Nikon Z versions.
