VibeLivre narrows a reader’s choices by filtering a curated book catalogue for practical limits such as page count and cost, then using Gemma to explain three possible matches. Its creator, Payal Yadav, built it for people who want to start reading but worry that the wrong first book will put them off. The project is a small, low-pressure picker—not evidence that AI can reliably identify everyone’s perfect book.
What VibeLivre does
VibeLivre asks what kind of reading experience someone wants, then recommends a short list from a catalogue the creator says contains around 150 books. Rather than asking a model to invent titles or search the web, the app works from its own book data.
Yadav describes the motivation as a friend’s concern that one disappointing book could make her conclude she was not a reader. The project is aimed at reducing the effort of choosing a first book, not at proving that someone should read more.

- The reader sets constraints and preferences. Inputs include a preferred genre or “vibe,” a maximum page count, available minutes per day, and a cost preference that can include free books.
- Python narrows the catalogue. Basic filtering removes titles that do not fit page-count and cost constraints; scoring then matches the remaining books against the requested vibes and their short hooks.
- Gemma presents a small set of options. In the local setup described by Yadav, Gemma 3 4B runs through Ollama and selects three books from the filtered catalogue, explaining why each might suit the reader.
- The app can make a reading plan. Python also handles a simple plan based on the reader’s available minutes per day. Streamlit provides the interface.
The catalogue records titles and authors, page counts, costs, vibe tags, and spoiler-free hooks. That structure matters: the model’s role is to choose and explain from provided options, while filtering and planning are handled in code.

Local version and hosted demo are different
Yadav says the complete model experience runs on her laptop, using Gemma 3 4B through Ollama. She also says the hosted Streamlit demo does not run Ollama, and that the project README explains how to run the full version yourself. What the example shows—and what it does not
In the example Yadav describes, her friend asked for an interesting short story that would not feel boring. The app suggested Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, How the Sea Became Salty by Sudha Murty, and A Christmas Carol. The friend chose How the Sea Became Salty, curious about how the sea becomes salty. Yadav reports that her friend said the recommendations saved time.

That is one informal trial, not a user study or comparative test. It shows how a constrained shortlist can help one person settle on a book; it does not establish that the recommendations are accurate, that readers generally find them less intimidating, or that VibeLivre works better than other ways of choosing.

- Catalogue coverage: The approximately 150-book count is the creator’s estimate, not an independently audited catalogue size. A useful recommendation depends on the books and metadata available to the app.
- Page counts: Yadav says counts are approximate and can vary by edition. A reader with a strict length limit should check the specific edition they intend to read.
- Free does not guarantee access: The creator says books marked free are assumed to be public domain, but copyright rules differ by country. Check that a particular text or edition is legally available where you live.
- No demonstrated performance benchmark: The project write-up reports no formal study, accuracy measure, or comparison with other book-finding approaches.
Is VibeLivre a fit for you?
It is most relevant if choosing from a large set of books feels harder than starting to read, and if you can describe useful boundaries—such as a short maximum length, a mood, or a cost limit. A three-book shortlist and short explanations may make that decision feel more manageable.

It is less useful if you need a comprehensive catalogue, verified edition-specific length or price information, or evidence that recommendations are consistently well matched. Treat the suggestions as starting points to inspect, not as authoritative judgments about what you will enjoy.
