Verizon is the clearer choice for investors prioritizing an established cash dividend. Its board has raised the quarterly payout for 20 consecutive years according to the June 4, 2026 declaration, and the company paid $11.5 billion in cash dividends during 2025. T-Mobile also pays dividends, but its 2025 filing presents them as one part of a broader capital-return program that includes share repurchases and network investment.

T-Mobile may appeal more to investors focused on growth and flexible capital allocation, but the available filings do not support a definitive current growth or yield ranking. T-Mobile’s latest retrieved evidence is its 2025 Form 10-K, while Verizon’s most recent operating figures are from the second quarter of 2026. A fair yield comparison also requires each company’s latest declared per-share dividend and share price on the same date; those inputs are not established here.

Quick answer: which stock fits which objective?

Investor question Better-supported answer Why
Which has the more established dividend-income record? Verizon The company reports 20 consecutive years of dividend increases and $11.5 billion of cash dividends paid in 2025.
Which has a documented 2026 shareholder-return envelope? T-Mobile Its 2025 Form 10-K authorized up to $14.6 billion for 2026, combining repurchases and dividends, subject to board discretion.

Which has stronger current growth evidence? Verizon has the more recent disclosed figures in the available material Verizon reported second-quarter 2026 results and raised 2026 guidance; a comparable current T-Mobile outlook was not retrieved.

This is a fit-for-purpose comparison, not a prediction of which stock will outperform. Dividend history does not guarantee future increases, and management guidance is not realized performance.

What “dividend income or growth potential” means for telecom investors

A dividend-income investor primarily wants dependable, recurring cash payments and a reasonable chance that those payments will keep pace with inflation. The key evidence is the declared per-share dividend, the record of increases, cash generation, debt obligations and the capital needed to maintain the network.

A growth investor is looking for expanding revenue, earnings, cash flow, customers or network economics that could increase the share price and future distributions. Telecom companies have to fund spectrum, construction, upgrades, information technology and customer acquisition before those investments can produce returns. A company can therefore offer both a dividend and growth, but each dollar paid out is a dollar that cannot be used immediately for those investments or for debt reduction.

Share repurchases belong in a separate category. A buyback can increase each remaining shareholder’s ownership percentage and may support per-share growth, but it does not give an individual investor a scheduled cash payment. Compare dividends with dividends, and assess repurchases as part of total shareholder returns rather than treating them as income.

Verizon’s dividend-income case

Long, documented increase streak

Verizon’s 2025 Form 10-K says the board raised the quarterly dividend to $0.6900 per share in the third quarter of 2025, up from $0.6775. That was described as the company’s nineteenth consecutive annual increase at that point. The filing also records $11.5 billion in cash dividend payments during 2025.

On June 4, 2026, Verizon announced a quarterly dividend of $0.7075 per share, payable August 3, 2026, and described the action as the twentieth consecutive year of increases. Because a later declaration may have occurred after that announcement, investors should check the company’s latest board release before using $0.7075 as the current payout.

Verizon chief executive Dan Schulman called the company’s dividend commitment “ironclad” in that June 2026 announcement. That is management’s statement of intent, not an independent assessment that the dividend is risk-free.

Cash generation and balance-sheet context

Verizon’s second-quarter 2026 release reported first-half free cash flow of $10.2 billion, an increase of 16% from the same period a year earlier. It also reported $128.7 billion of net unsecured debt at quarter end and a 2.5-times net-unsecured-debt-to-adjusted-EBITDA ratio. Those figures show why dividend analysis must consider debt service and network spending, not just the dividend record.

The company’s board says it periodically evaluates the dividend in light of long-term growth opportunities, internal cash needs and shareholder expectations. That policy leaves room for future increases, but it also means the board weighs competing uses of cash rather than treating the payout as automatic.

Recent operating and guidance signals

Verizon reported approximately $23.4 billion of mobility and broadband service revenue in the second quarter of 2026, up 2.8% year over year. Adjusted EBITDA was $13.7 billion, up 7.2%, and adjusted earnings per share was $1.30, up 6.6%. “Adjusted” figures are non-GAAP measures; they should be read alongside the company’s reported GAAP results and definitions.

Management raised its full-year 2026 guidance for adjusted EPS growth to 6%–7% and free-cash-flow growth to 9%–10%. These are forward-looking targets, not results already achieved. The same earnings discussion cautioned that the company’s transformation is at an early stage and “won’t always be a straight line.”

Capital priorities that compete with dividends

In its January 30, 2026 earnings-call discussion, Verizon listed network and business investment, the dividend, balance-sheet strength and shareholder returns among its priorities. Management gave a 2026 capital-expenditure range of $16.0 billion to $16.5 billion and a long-term net-unsecured-leverage target of 2.0 to 2.25 times within the 2027 timeframe.

Verizon also authorized up to $25 billion of share repurchases over three years, including at least $3 billion expected in 2026. These are management plans and targets. If debt reduction, spectrum or network projects require more cash, the company could alter the pace of repurchases or other uses of capital even while maintaining the dividend.

T-Mobile’s capital-return and growth case

Dividend payments are part of a broader program

T-Mobile’s 2025 Form 10-K reports $4.1 billion of cash dividends paid during 2025. The filing also describes a December 2025 authorization of up to $14.6 billion for its 2026 Stockholder Return Program. That envelope can be used for both share repurchases and cash dividends, and declarations remain subject to the board’s discretion and applicable legal and financial considerations.

The $14.6 billion figure is therefore not a promise that T-Mobile will pay $14.6 billion in dividends. An investor seeking predictable income must identify the actual per-share declaration and payment schedule rather than substituting the total-return authorization for a dividend commitment.

Why network investment matters to the growth thesis

The filing describes a capital plan that balances shareholder returns with core and strategic investment. Spectrum deployment, network construction and upgrades, integration work and information-technology investment can all increase capital requirements. Those projects may support future capacity, customer growth and service quality, but they also compete with cash distributions in the short term.

For a growth-oriented analysis, examine whether those investments produce improving operating results, not merely whether the company has authorized a large return program. The available material does not provide a comparable second-quarter 2026 T-Mobile operating release or a full-year 2026 outlook, so it cannot establish that T-Mobile is currently growing faster than Verizon.

What is not established from the available filing

The retrieved T-Mobile evidence does not establish its latest 2026 quarterly dividend declaration, a same-date share price, a current forward yield or a comparable 2026 full-year guidance range. Those omissions are important: they prevent a precise answer to “Which telecom stock has the higher yield?” and prevent a like-for-like current-quarter growth ranking.

How to compare dividend yields without being misled

Dividend yield is calculated as:

Annualized dividend per share ÷ share price = dividend yield.

Use the latest declared regular quarterly dividend, multiply by the number of regular payments expected in a year, and divide by the closing share price from the same date. If a company declares a special dividend, keep it separate from the recurring yield. Record the declaration date, ex-dividend date, payment date and whether the amount is a one-time change.

  1. Verify the latest declaration. Read each company’s investor-relations dividend release or regulatory filing. Do not assume the June 4, 2026 Verizon declaration is still the latest one, and do not infer T-Mobile’s current payout from its $4.1 billion 2025 total.
  2. Capture same-date prices. A yield calculated with one stock’s current price and the other stock’s price from a different day can reverse the ranking.
  3. Annualize consistently. Multiply a regular quarterly payment by four only when a quarterly schedule is established. Do not include repurchases in the numerator.
  4. Check for price-driven yield changes. A higher percentage can result from a falling share price, which may signal greater perceived risk rather than a better income opportunity.
  5. Read the cash-flow and debt disclosures. A high yield supported by declining cash flow or rising leverage is less resilient than the percentage alone suggests.

Because the current T-Mobile declaration and same-date prices are not established here, this article does not rank Verizon and T-Mobile by current yield.

A practical dividend-sustainability checklist

1. Is free cash flow large enough after essential investment?

Start with cash generated by the business, then account for capital expenditures needed to maintain and expand the network. Verizon reported $10.2 billion of first-half 2026 free cash flow, but that figure must be compared with the period’s dividend payments, debt costs and other commitments. A single half-year figure is not a guarantee of a full-year coverage ratio.

2. Is leverage moving toward or away from management’s target?

Verizon reported 2.5 times net unsecured debt to adjusted EBITDA at the end of the second quarter of 2026 and described a 2.0–2.25 times long-term target within 2027. Progress toward that target would provide more balance-sheet flexibility; deterioration would make future capital allocation more constrained. T-Mobile’s filing should be reviewed for the same debt, cash-flow and investment trends before drawing a conclusion.

3. Does the company have a history of increases, or only a current authorization?

Verizon’s twenty-year increase record is direct evidence of past dividend policy. T-Mobile’s $14.6 billion 2026 program is evidence of authorized capital-return capacity, but it combines two different mechanisms and remains discretionary. These are not interchangeable signals.

4. Could operating needs force a change in priorities?

Spectrum purchases, network densification, technology upgrades, integration costs and competitive promotions can absorb cash. A sustainable dividend is one that remains affordable after the company funds necessary operations and strategic projects, not one that simply fits within a board announcement.

How to assess growth potential

Separate reported results from guidance

Verizon’s 6%–7% adjusted EPS growth and 9%–10% free-cash-flow growth ranges are management guidance. The reported second-quarter increases—6.6% adjusted EPS growth, 7.2% adjusted EBITDA growth and 2.8% mobility and broadband service-revenue growth—are historical results for that quarter. Keep those categories separate when building an investment thesis.

Look for growth that improves per-share economics

Revenue growth alone may require heavy spending or price concessions. Examine whether additional customers, higher service revenue, better network utilization or cost control translate into EBITDA, free cash flow and earnings per share. Repurchases can also affect per-share results, so distinguish operating improvement from the mechanical effect of a lower share count.

Evaluate T-Mobile’s investment cycle directly

T-Mobile’s filing identifies spectrum deployment, construction, upgrades, integration and IT as drivers of capital needs. A growth thesis should ask what those investments are expected to accomplish, the timing of the spending and whether returns are visible in subsequent operating disclosures. The available filing does not provide enough current-period data to answer those questions comparatively against Verizon.

Which investor profile fits each company?

Choose Verizon when established income is the primary objective

  • You value a documented, multi-decade record of annual dividend increases.
  • You want a large recurring cash distribution rather than relying on buybacks for shareholder returns.
  • You are willing to monitor substantial debt, capital expenditure and execution risk in exchange for that income profile.
  • You accept that the latest declared payout must still be checked because boards can make later changes.

Consider T-Mobile when flexible total returns and investment-led growth matter more

  • You are comfortable with a dividend that is one component of a broader, discretionary return program.
  • You place greater weight on network, spectrum and customer economics than on a long dividend-increase streak.
  • You can tolerate uncertainty about the current yield until the latest declaration and share price are verified.
  • You assess repurchases as potential per-share support, while recognizing that they do not provide scheduled cash income.

Use a blended approach when your goals are mixed

An investor does not have to choose a single telecom stock to express both objectives. A blended position can separate the income role from the growth role, but diversification does not remove sector risks such as regulation, pricing competition, spectrum costs, high capital intensity or interest-rate sensitivity. Set a target allocation and review each company against the same cash-flow, leverage and valuation criteria.

Risks that can change the income-versus-growth decision

  • Debt and interest costs: Large telecom balance sheets can limit cash available for dividends, buybacks and new projects when refinancing becomes more expensive.
  • Capital intensity: Network upgrades and spectrum deployment require continuing investment even when revenue growth slows.
  • Competitive pricing: Promotions or lower prices can increase customer additions while weakening margins and cash generation.
  • Execution risk: Verizon’s management explicitly said its transformation will take time and will not proceed in a straight line.
  • Guidance risk: The 2026 Verizon growth ranges are forecasts. Actual results can differ because of operating conditions, costs or strategic decisions.
  • Price risk: A dividend can remain unchanged while a falling share price increases the displayed yield; the investor can still suffer a capital loss.
  • Policy risk: Both companies’ boards retain authority over future capital allocation. Verizon’s increase streak and T-Mobile’s authorization do not guarantee future payments or buybacks.

A repeatable process before buying either stock

  1. Download the latest quarterly filing and dividend announcement for both companies.
  2. Write down the declared regular dividend per share, declaration date, payment date and any stated increase.
  3. Record both closing share prices on one common date and calculate annualized yields using the same method.
  4. Compare free cash flow after capital expenditures with cash dividends paid and planned repurchases.
  5. Review net debt, leverage ratios, maturities and management’s stated balance-sheet targets.
  6. Separate historical revenue, EBITDA, EPS and cash-flow growth from forward guidance.
  7. Read the capital-investment discussion for spectrum, network construction, upgrades, integration and IT.
  8. Decide whether your expected return depends mainly on cash income, per-share growth, share-price appreciation or a combination.
  9. Set a maximum position size and a review trigger, such as a dividend reduction, material leverage deterioration or a change in investment requirements.

Bottom line

On the evidence available, Verizon has the stronger established dividend-income profile: a reported 20-year increase streak, $11.5 billion of 2025 cash dividends and recent guidance for higher adjusted EPS and free cash flow. T-Mobile offers a broader, potentially growth-oriented capital-allocation framework, but its $14.6 billion 2026 program is not a dividend promise and the available filing does not provide a comparable current-quarter outlook.

Do not declare a current yield winner until you verify both companies’ latest per-share dividends and same-date prices. For income, begin with Verizon’s payment history and then test coverage against debt and network spending. For growth, evaluate T-Mobile’s investment outcomes and Verizon’s reported results and guidance separately, without treating either company’s plans as guaranteed returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Verizon’s dividend increase guarantee future increases?

No. Verizon’s 20-year increase record describes past board decisions. Future dividends depend on cash generation, debt, investment needs and the board’s assessment of long-term opportunities.

Is T-Mobile’s $14.6 billion 2026 program all dividends?

No. The authorization can fund both share repurchases and cash dividends, and dividend declarations remain subject to board discretion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which stock currently has the higher dividend yield?

That cannot be established without the latest declared per-share dividend and same-date share price for each company. A higher displayed yield can also result from a lower share price.

Are Verizon’s 2026 EPS and free-cash-flow growth rates guaranteed?

No. The 6%–7% adjusted EPS and 9%–10% free-cash-flow ranges are management guidance, not realized results.
