Verizon’s Oct. 14, 2026 announcement bundles several no-extra-charge benefits for qualifying customers: Digital Secure, Verizon Family with Safe Walk, Call Filter and six months of Google AI Pro. Some features require enrollment, an eligible postpaid plan or a separate upgrade, so “free” does not mean every Verizon customer receives every capability automatically.
What Verizon says is included
The announcement describes complimentary tiers of three safety and family services, plus a limited Google AI Pro promotion. The practical differences are shown below.

After a promotional period ends, check My Verizon for the renewal price and cancellation terms before the six months expire. The announcement establishes the free period, not a permanent subscription.
How Verizon Family and Safe Walk work
Location sharing and check-ins
Verizon Family lets participating members share locations and review calls and texts. Verizon says the service can be shared with up to five members. Its March 30, 2026 milestone article reported one million families enrolled. It also reported 360 million automatic updates and 251 million personal check-ins during the prior year; Verizon said the underlying data were dated Nov. 24, 2025 and that one figure was extrapolated over 365 days.

Safe Walk SOS
Safe Walk is designed for a person who wants to share their location with selected emergency contacts and send an SOS alert. There is an important safety boundary: Verizon’s FAQ states, “Safe Walk SOS (free service) doesn’t contact 911.” Treat the alert as a message to your chosen contacts, not as an emergency-dispatch service. For an immediate threat or medical emergency, contact local emergency services directly.
Family versus Family Plus
Verizon Family Plus is not simply a name for the free tier. Verizon support describes it as a separate eligible-plan feature or paid upgrade that adds driving insights, roadside assistance and advanced parental controls. Whether it is included depends on the wireless plan; otherwise it may require an additional charge.

How to claim the Google AI Pro offer
- Open the My Verizon app or website and sign in as the account manager.
- Open the products and plan perks area and locate the Google AI Pro promotion.
- Review the eligibility notice, promotional end date and any post-promotion billing terms.
- Follow the enrollment flow to connect or create the required Google account.
- If you want to share the benefit, create a Google Family Group. Google’s FAQ says the family manager can add up to five other people.
If the offer does not appear, verify that you are signed in as the eligible account manager and that your plan is covered. Do not assume that adding a line or changing plans will qualify you unless My Verizon explicitly says so.

Activation and upgrade fees
Verizon says postpaid customers on phone and connected-device plans can opt into its Loyalty program and waive activation and upgrade fees, up to $40 in fees per device. The offer has terms and may require opting in before a transaction, so check the account’s Loyalty enrollment status first.

Verizon Dollars
The loyalty message advertises 3% back in Verizon Dollars. Verizon says those rewards can be redeemed for devices, accessories, gift cards or hotel rewards. The announcement does not establish that every purchase category earns rewards or that the rate is permanent; read the current program terms.
Verizon Shine
Members are also offered weekly chances and daily drops through Verizon Shine, along with Verizon experiences and drops. These are promotional opportunities rather than guaranteed cash value.

Where the Gizmo Watch fits
The Verizon Gizmo Watch is Verizon’s phone-free smartwatch for children. Verizon says it will be manageable through Verizon Family, making it the most direct hardware companion to the location and family-management features. A watch still needs an appropriate Verizon line and compatible service, and the cited Verizon pages do not provide a complete current price or battery-life specification. Before buying, confirm the exact model, seller, activation requirements, Family compatibility and total device-plus-service cost.

For any family-device comparison, evaluate phone-free operation, location-sharing controls, what an SOS actually does, compatibility with the family-management app, line requirements, battery life and recurring service cost. The available Verizon material does not establish a complete head-to-head price or battery comparison.
What to check before relying on a “free” perk
- Confirm whether the account is postpaid and whether the specific plan is listed as eligible.
- Enroll through My Verizon when the benefit requires activation; availability may not be automatic.
- Distinguish the free Family tier from Family Plus features and charges.
- Remember that Safe Walk SOS does not call 911.
- Record the Google AI Pro promotion’s end date and review renewal terms.
- Check Loyalty terms before expecting a fee waiver or Verizon Dollars on a particular transaction.
Why Verizon is emphasizing these services now
The safety push follows Verizon’s reported Family adoption milestone and usage figures. Verizon also cites a Morning Consult survey conducted for the company Sept. 20–24, 2024, of 2,000 parents or caregivers: 63% said they felt anxious when they could not readily access a loved one’s location. That survey describes reported sentiment, not a measurement of the services’ effectiveness, but it explains the focus on location visibility and check-ins.
The Bottom Line
Eligible Verizon customers can claim meaningful safety, family-management and AI benefits at no extra cost, but each has boundaries: enrollment and plan rules apply, Family Plus is a separate tier, Google AI Pro lasts six months, and Safe Walk SOS does not contact 911.
