Which route does the Vande Bharat Sleeper use?
The first commercial Vande Bharat Sleeper service connects Howrah and Kamakhya. Railway announcements also describe it as the Howrah–Guwahati corridor because Kamakhya serves the Guwahati area. It is not evidence that sleeper trains operate on every Vande Bharat route.

Train 27575 is the Howrah-to-Kamakhya service, while 27576 runs from Kamakhya to Howrah. The Ministry of Railways said the first commercial departure was scheduled from Kamakhya on 22 January 2026 and from Howrah on 23 January 2026. First-day bookings opened on 19 January 2026.

The Ministry described the service as a long-distance overnight train linking West Bengal and Assam. Its stated distance is approximately 966 kilometres, with an expected journey time of about 14 hours.

The launch announcement also attributed this statement to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw: “The complete cycle of trials, testing and certification of the train has been successfully concluded.” That is an official statement about certification, not an independent performance test.
Vande Bharat Sleeper train numbers and timetable
The detailed schedule below is the launch-era listing reported by Indian Express and shown by RailTC, which identifies IRCTC_DIRECT as its timetable source. RailTC labels the times indicative, so treat them as planning information rather than a permanent guarantee. Confirm the selected train and date in IRCTC.

The reported pattern was six operating days per week for each train. It is useful when understanding the launch service, but railway schedules can be revised for seasonal operations, maintenance, or other operational reasons. A date that appears to fit the pattern may still show no train in the current booking system.
What stations does it stop at?
The launch-era listing shows 15 stations in each direction, including the origin and destination. The intermediate stops listed for the service are:
- Howrah or Kamakhya, depending on direction
- Bandel
- Nabadwip Dham
- Katwa
- Azimganj
- New Farakka
- Malda Town
- Aluabari Road
- New Jalpaiguri
- Jalpaiguri Road

Station order and halt times matter if you are making a same-day connection. Verify the exact stop list displayed for your train number and journey date instead of relying on this launch-era sequence.
How to check availability and book a ticket on IRCTC
IRCTC’s e-ticket instructions provide the practical workflow. Inventory and fares are live values for the journey you select; they are not fixed by this article.
- Open IRCTC ticket booking and enter your origin station, destination station and journey date. For the first sleeper service, search Howrah–Kamakhya for train 27575 or Kamakhya–Howrah for train 27576.
- Select the e-ticket option and submit the search.
- Review the results for the correct train number, departure date and boarding and destination stations. Do not select a similarly named station without checking its code and location.
- Choose the available class: AC 3-tier, AC 2-tier or AC First Class, where offered for that date.
- Open the availability and fare display. Check whether the status is confirmed, waitlisted or otherwise unavailable, and note the total shown before payment.
- Enter passenger details exactly as required, review the names, age and concession information, and continue to payment.
- Complete payment and wait for the confirmation page. A successful transaction produces reservation details and an electronic reservation slip.
- Save the booking reference and electronic reservation slip. Recheck the final train, coach, berth and reporting information before travelling, especially if the booking was made well in advance.
No universal advance-booking window or guaranteed live seat count for all future dates has been established here. The date-specific IRCTC result is the authoritative place to see whether booking has opened, how many berths remain and what the railway is charging.

How much does the Vande Bharat Sleeper cost?
A March 2026 summary of a Railway Minister’s Lok Sabha reply states that Vande Bharat Sleeper fares fall in a published range of ₹2.40 to ₹3.80 per passenger-kilometre. The same statement gives AC 3-tier a rate of ₹2.40 per passenger-kilometre before GST and an indicative ₹2,400 for a 1,000-kilometre journey in 3AC before GST.

Those figures describe the fare structure, not a guaranteed amount for your Howrah–Kamakhya booking. The amount payable can depend on the journey, class, taxes and applicable railway charges. Use the fare shown by IRCTC after selecting the date and class; do not budget from a static online figure alone.
Does Vande Bharat Sleeper have RAC?
The Railway Minister’s Lok Sabha reply summary says this sleeper service has no RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets. A passenger who is initially waitlisted may receive confirmation if a confirmed passenger cancels, but a waitlist is not a promise of a berth. Check the status in IRCTC and follow the ticket’s current rules before travelling.
Which classes and facilities are available?
The Ministry of Railways’ pre-launch description specifies 16 coaches and capacity for 823 passengers. The planned composition is:

The official description lists ergonomic sleeper berths, charging ports, luggage space, accessibility provisions, onboard catering, modern toilets and safety features. These are features described by the Ministry; they should not be read as a personal inspection or guarantee that every facility will operate identically on every trip.

How to decide whether this train fits your trip
Compare the complete journey, not just the advertised departure time. Before booking, check:
- Operating date: confirm that the train is scheduled on your chosen day.
- Stations: make sure Howrah, Kamakhya or an intermediate stop is practical for your actual origin and destination.
- Overnight timing: an evening departure and morning arrival may reduce the need for a hotel, but the arrival time can affect onward transport.
- Class: compare 3AC, 2AC and 1AC availability and the live total fare.
- Whole-trip cost: include local transport to the station, onward travel and any meal or transfer costs.
- Connection risk: leave a substantial buffer after an overnight train if you have a flight, event or separate ticket.
If you are comparing the sleeper service with another train or an airline, use origin-to-destination time and cost, overnight accommodation, schedule fit and station or airport access as the comparison points. A nominally faster service may be less convenient once transfers and check-in time are included.

Assuming every Vande Bharat route has sleeper coaches
The evidence supports this first Howrah–Kamakhya service only. Search the specific train number rather than assuming a regular daytime Vande Bharat route has a sleeper version.
Using launch timings as a permanent timetable
The 18:20 and 18:15 departures, 08:20 and 08:15 arrivals, stop list and weekday exclusions are launch-era details. Confirm them in IRCTC for your date.

Budgeting from the per-kilometre rate
The published rate is a fare-structure reference before GST in the stated 3AC example. Use the final IRCTC total for your class and date.
Booking the wrong station
Check station names and codes before payment. Howrah and Kamakhya are specific railway stations; selecting a nearby station can invalidate a carefully planned connection.
What to pack for an overnight sleeper journey
The train is described as providing berths, charging points and luggage space, so pack for personal comfort rather than assuming you must supply train equipment. A compact neck pillow is an optional general travel accessory, not a Vande Bharat requirement, railway-supplied item or endorsed product.
