Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, the sequel to the 2004 game, launched on October 21, 2025, for PC and consoles. Its major twist is that the story has two playable perspectives: Elder vampire Phyre in modern-day Seattle and Fabien, a Malkavian detective whose chapters unfold in 1920s Seattle as he investigates his own murder.

What is the twist in Bloodlines 2?

Fabien is not just a voice in Phyre’s head. Players also experience parts of the story from his perspective. The game moves between Phyre’s present-day struggle and Fabien’s neo-noir detective story, making the two characters’ investigations part of the same narrative.

Phyre: a vampire in modern Seattle

Phyre is an Elder vampire who wakes after centuries of torpor. A mysterious mark has sealed away their Elder abilities, and Phyre must navigate Seattle’s Kindred power structure while uncovering secrets and seeking to regain those powers. Fabien’s voice echoes in Phyre’s mind.

Fabien: a detective in 1920s Seattle

Fabien is a Malkavian detective investigating his own murder in a version of Seattle styled as neo-noir 1920s. His clan abilities help him investigate, but his fractured perception makes it difficult to distinguish fact from fiction. The announced twist is this additional playable narrative perspective—not a confirmed surprise ending or an undisclosed plot reveal. Paradox’s August 19, 2025 announcement introduced Fabien and the October launch date.

When did Bloodlines 2 come out, and where can you play it?

The game launched October 21, 2025. The launch announcement confirms availability on PC and consoles; the earlier launch-date announcement named Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Physical editions were announced for select retailers, but that announcement does not establish current stock or availability in a particular region. Paradox’s launch announcement confirms the release.

What clans and editions were announced?

Six clans in the base game

The September 2025 official overview lists six playable base-game clans: Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, Ventrue, Toreador, and Lasombra. Toreador and Lasombra had appeared in earlier plans as Premium Edition add-ons, but Paradox later said both would be included in the base game after community feedback. The September overview is the later description of the game’s clan lineup. Read the official game overview.

Physical editions and announced story packs

The same overview describes a physical Day One Edition with the base game and Bloodlines Nostalgia Jukebox bonus. Its physical Premium Edition includes the base game, Expansion Pass, character cards, journal, and SteelBook case. Select retailers were also expected to offer a physical cross necklace. Retailer, platform, region, and exact contents should be checked before treating any of these as a currently available offer.

The overview announced two story packs for 2026: Loose Cannon, centered on Brujah Sheriff Benny, and The Flower & The Flame, centered on Toreador Primogen Ysabella. The launch announcement also described them as 2026 releases; those announcements do not establish their current availability or any revised release windows.

How did the release plans change?

The game’s final launch date followed a series of public updates. In August 2024, Paradox and developer The Chinese Room moved the planned release window to the first half of 2025, citing time for polish, quality assurance, community feedback, and story expansion. That update also claimed the game would have “more than twice as many endings as its predecessor”; this was a development claim, not an independently verified ending count. The August 2024 update documents that plan.

On May 23, 2025, World of Darkness announced its rebrand to White Wolf, describing White Wolf as the official licensing and publishing entity for its transmedia properties. The announcement explains the change. Paradox Interactive and White Wolf then revealed Fabien and the October 21 release date on August 19. On September 17, the official overview set out the six-clan base-game lineup and the two planned story packs. The game launched on October 21.
