Choose Valor Mortis if you want a first-person soulslike built around parries, dashes, finishers and supernatural powers in a plague-ravaged, alternate-history Napoleonic Europe. Choose Lies of P if you prefer an established Pinocchio-inspired soulslike with weapon combinations, Legion Arms, a Belle Époque setting and broad platform support. Neither official source establishes a superior parry window or an overall winner, so the right choice depends on which identity fits you.
Availability needs a date check. PlayStation’s Canadian listing scheduled Valor Mortis for October 13, 2026 at 18:00 UTC, while indexed Steam text showed conflicting availability wording. What kind of game is Valor Mortis?
Valor Mortis is the more unusual pitch. You play William, a former Napoleonic soldier who returns to life while a plague and a supernatural conspiracy transform his world. The setting is not simply historical Europe: the official descriptions present an alternate-history 19th century where military ambition, disease and the uncanny overlap. That premise gives the game a horror identity before you reach its combat systems.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Its defining presentation choice is first-person play. The Steam listing calls it a first-person action soulslike, and the PlayStation Store description places parries, dashes and finishers inside a mobile, close-range combat loop. First-person melee can make an incoming strike feel immediate because the opponent occupies your entire view, while dashes and finishers suggest that defense is meant to flow into repositioning and execution rather than remain a stationary shield action. The sources do not establish how generous the timing is, how much stamina it costs or how enemy attacks are telegraphed, so those details should not be assumed from the feature list.
#1 Best Overall
- The essence of battle: Wield and master various weapons with unique combinations of Fable Arts and Legion Arms to find out what fits your playstyle
- Variety of attraction: Enjoy the beautiful, yet dark atmosphere of the Belle Époque era and explore the once prosperous city of Krat
- Lie system: P is made of a puppet's heart, but he learns how to think and feel like a human by lying
- Legacy of the classics: The city of Krat, the characters, and even the smallest objects reflect our deepest admiration for the original tale of Pinocchio
William also has access to multiple weapons and supernatural powers. That combination points to a character who can solve encounters through timing, movement, weapon choice and special abilities instead of a single parry animation. The game’s identity therefore rests on the interaction of first-person awareness and supernatural mobility. If you want a soulslike that looks and feels structurally different from the usual third-person template, Valor Mortis is the natural candidate.
What kind of game is Lies of P?
Lies of P takes a familiar literary figure and turns him into the center of a grim action RPG. NEOWIZ describes a Pinocchio-inspired story in a bloodied, Belle Époque-style Krat. The contrast matters: ornate architecture and period styling provide the surface, while violence, ruined streets and moral decisions supply the darker tone. Your choices to lie or tell the truth are part of the official premise, so the narrative hook is not only the setting but also how the protagonist’s identity is shaped through decisions.
Its combat identity is built around customization. The official base-game page emphasizes dynamic weapon combinations, Legion Arms and additional abilities. Weapon combinations mean the game is presented as a system for assembling different attack properties rather than merely collecting fixed swords and choosing one. Legion Arms add a separate toolset to that weapon layer, giving you another way to approach an encounter. The official descriptions do not quantify the number of combinations, list every arm or prove that any particular build is stronger, so treat those features as the design framework rather than a promise of a specific optimal setup.
Recommended Free Tools
Lies of P is explicitly single-player, with no multiplayer functions according to NEOWIZ’s support page. That makes the intended experience a solitary one: learning enemy patterns, deciding when to defend and tailoring your equipment without summoning another player or invading someone else’s world. If you want a known, fully documented soulslike structure with an elaborate weapon system and a broad choice of platforms, it is the safer fit.
How their parry-focused combat differs
Valor Mortis: parry as part of first-person movement
Valor Mortis’s official combat language puts parries alongside dashes and finishers. That grouping suggests a defensive action designed to connect to movement and a decisive follow-up. In a first-person game, you will read threats through the direction and animation of enemies in front of you rather than through a distant character model. The result may appeal to players who want every block attempt to feel close and physical, but no cited source reports frame data, a timing window, recovery time or the punishment for a missed parry.

Multiple weapons and supernatural powers broaden the choices around a successful defense. You may be selecting a tool for reach, speed or a special effect, then using a dash or power to create the angle for a finisher. That is an inference from the advertised feature set, not a tested description of the final meta. Wait for hands-on coverage if your purchase depends on exact responsiveness.
Lies of P: defense inside a build-and-combine system
Lies of P’s official materials emphasize weapon combinations, Legion Arms and abilities rather than presenting a standalone parry specification. Defensive timing is therefore best understood as one part of a broader build system. Your choice of assembled weapon and Legion Arm can change how you approach an enemy, while the single-player structure leaves the learning process entirely in your hands.
The game’s official pages do not say that its parry is more forgiving, stricter, faster or more rewarding than Valor Mortis’s. A feature comparison can establish what each developer advertises, but it cannot establish which game has the better feel. Do not choose on the assumption that a familiar soulslike label guarantees a particular input window.
What this means for a player who cares about timing
- Choose Valor Mortis when the first-person viewpoint and the advertised link between parries, dashes and finishers are the attraction.
- Choose Lies of P when you want defensive play embedded in weapon assembly, Legion Arms and a longer-established single-player package.
- Choose neither solely on claims about frame-perfect superiority: the official sources provide no controlled comparison, timing chart or laboratory test.
Perspective and presentation: the choice that changes the feel
Camera position is the clearest structural difference established by the available descriptions. Valor Mortis is explicitly first-person. You see the world through William’s eyes, which can heighten the sense of entering a corridor, meeting an enemy at arm’s length or turning quickly toward a threat. It can also make spatial awareness and attack recognition feel different from a camera that shows your entire character.
The cited Lies of P pages describe its setting, weapons and abilities but do not specify its camera perspective. Because of that evidence limit, this comparison should not label it with a viewpoint that the supplied official material does not establish. If a third-person or first-person camera is a non-negotiable requirement, watch current official gameplay footage or check the game’s current product information before purchasing.

Presentation preference is not cosmetic here. First-person combat can appeal to players who value immersion and direct threat assessment, while a character-visible camera can make animation reading, positioning and weapon reach easier to parse. Those are general implications of camera design, not a claim about either game’s final execution. Use the distinction as a decision filter, then verify the details that matter to you.

World, story and tone
Valor Mortis: Napoleonic plague horror
The PlayStation description frames Valor Mortis around a plague, Napoleon’s Eternal Guard and the resurrection of a former soldier. Its alternate-history setting gives historical names a supernatural twist: the threat is not only war or disease but a conspiracy that turns the era itself into horror. Pick it if you want military uniforms, period conflict and occult danger in the same fictional world.
Lies of P: a corrupted Belle Époque fairy tale
NEOWIZ’s official page places Lies of P in Belle Époque-inspired Krat and reworks Pinocchio as a soulslike protagonist. The city’s elegance and bloodshed are deliberately paired, and the lie-or-truth choice reinforces the fairy-tale source material without making the game a children’s adaptation. Pick it if you prefer gothic urban atmosphere, recognizable literary inspiration and a story that makes the protagonist’s honesty part of the premise.
The settings support different moods rather than competing on an objective scale. Valor Mortis is the stronger thematic match for alternate-history military horror; Lies of P is the stronger match for a stylized city and a dark retelling of a classic tale.
Weapons, powers and build decisions
| System | What the official material confirms | How to use that information |
|---|---|---|
| Weapons | Valor Mortis has multiple weapons; Lies of P supports dynamic weapon combinations. | Favor Valor Mortis if changing weapon categories is the draw. Favor Lies of P if assembling or recombining weapon properties is more appealing. |
| Special abilities | Valor Mortis includes supernatural powers. Lies of P includes Legion Arms and new abilities. | Valor Mortis offers a supernatural-horror framing for powers; Lies of P separates Legion Arms from its weapon-combination identity. |
| Progression detail | The cited sources do not provide complete skill trees, stat caps, upgrade costs or an optimal build. | Do not select either game based on an assumed number of builds or a supposed best weapon without current, verified guides. |
This distinction affects how you imagine replaying encounters. In Valor Mortis, the advertised mix of weapons, mobility and supernatural powers suggests experimentation around approach and timing. In Lies of P, the advertised combinations and Legion Arms suggest experimentation around constructed loadouts. Neither source supplies enough detail to promise a specific amount of build variety, respec flexibility or endgame depth.

Platforms, modes and release status
Valor Mortis availability
PlayStation’s Canadian product page identifies Valor Mortis as a one-player PS5 game with offline play enabled and scheduled its release for October 13, 2026 at 18:00 UTC: official PlayStation listing. The PlayStation Store concept page provides the game description: Valor Mortis on PlayStation Store. Steam’s indexed page lists October 13, 2026 as the release date: Valor Mortis on Steam.
At the time those pages were captured, the Steam result also displayed both “not yet available” wording and a countdown that did not align with PlayStation’s dated launch time. Treat that indexed text as stale or inconsistent, not as a release-time authority. Store pages can differ by region, time zone and indexing delay. Check the live PS5 or Steam page for your country before you assume the game is downloadable, priced or supported on your preferred platform.
Lies of P availability
NEOWIZ’s support page lists Lies of P for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Mac, Steam and the Epic Games Store: official support page. The same page identifies the game as single-player with no multiplayer functions. A platform being listed does not establish current regional stock, a particular physical edition or identical performance across systems.
NEOWIZ’s update notes identify version 1.13.1.0 dated August 5, 2026. Those notes state that the Windows version became available on the Epic Games Store and that the Complete Edition became available on Nintendo Switch 2: official version 1.13.1.0 notes. This is a dated update record, not a guarantee that every storefront currently offers every edition in every region.
Which game suits which player?
Pick Valor Mortis if these priorities describe you
- You specifically want a first-person action soulslike rather than another familiar camera setup.
- Parries, dashes and finishers appeal as one connected combat vocabulary.
- You prefer alternate-history Napoleonic horror, plague fiction and supernatural conspiracy to a literary fairy-tale retelling.
- You are comfortable checking launch status and waiting for post-release impressions before making a final quality judgment.
- You want to experiment with multiple weapons and supernatural powers without needing multiplayer.
Pick Lies of P if these priorities describe you
- You want a Pinocchio-inspired story in a Belle Époque-style city.
- Weapon combinations and Legion Arms matter more to you than a first-person premise.
- You want a single-player game with no multiplayer functions and an officially documented update history.
- You need a choice among PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Mac, Steam and Epic Games Store, subject to regional availability.
- You would rather choose an established package than make a launch-period decision about a newly scheduled title.
Choose by setting when combat descriptions still leave you undecided
Use the world as the tie-breaker. A plague spreading through an alternate Napoleonic Europe points toward Valor Mortis. A corrupted Belle Époque city and a Pinocchio-inspired identity point toward Lies of P. Settings are not superficial in these games: each one determines the kind of enemies, architecture, narrative language and atmosphere you will spend dozens of hours inhabiting.

A practical decision process before you buy
- Confirm your platform. For Valor Mortis, verify the current PS5 or Steam storefront in your region. For Lies of P, compare the officially listed systems with the hardware you own.
- Decide whether first-person is essential. Valor Mortis is explicitly first-person. The cited Lies of P pages do not establish its camera perspective, so verify that separately through current official material.
- Rank your preferred combat hook. Select Valor Mortis for the advertised parry-dash-finisher-mobility combination; select Lies of P for weapon combinations, Legion Arms and abilities.
- Choose your setting. Pick the Napoleonic plague-horror premise or the Belle Époque Pinocchio retelling before comparing minor mechanics.
- Set expectations about evidence. Do not treat feature lists as proof of parry quality. Look for current hands-on coverage and patch information if input response, difficulty or performance determines your purchase.
- Check the edition and region. A platform listing does not guarantee a physical disc, a particular Complete Edition, retailer stock or identical terms where you live.
What the official evidence does—and does not—prove
The sources establish each game’s advertised identity, not a controlled contest. They do not provide parry-frame measurements, failure rates, enemy reaction data, performance benchmarks, review scores, sales figures or player-count statistics. No supplied source demonstrates that one game is easier, harder, more responsive or more rewarding than the other.
That limitation is important because the word parry can describe very different experiences. Timing may depend on animation readability, input buffering, stamina, recovery, enemy tracking and the consequences of a miss. None of those variables is quantified in the cited pages. A responsible recommendation therefore uses preferences—viewpoint, setting, build philosophy, platform and release certainty—instead of inventing a winner.
Bottom line for different buying situations
Buying for a distinctive concept: Valor Mortis is the clear pick because first-person soulslike combat and Napoleonic plague horror give it a more unusual identity.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Buying for breadth of platforms and a documented package: Lies of P is the practical pick, with official support across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Mac and PC storefronts, plus a recorded 2026 update.
Buying solely for the best parry: neither can be endorsed on the supplied evidence. Wait for trustworthy post-launch testing and choose based on the combat presentation and systems you actually want to learn.
Still undecided: use the setting as the final tie-breaker—Napoleonic supernatural horror for Valor Mortis, or a dark Belle Époque Pinocchio for Lies of P.
