Valor Mortis and Lies of P both draw on Soulslike conventions, but their advertised identities differ. Valor Mortis puts you in a first-person, plague-haunted alternate history, with swords, firearms, and supernatural powers. Lies of P reimagines Pinocchio in the puppet-filled city of Krat, with weapon combinations, Legion Arms, and choices about truth and lies. Those features make the games distinct on paper; official descriptions alone do not show which combat feels better or more challenging.
How their combat systems compare
The clearest contrast is how each game presents its tools: Valor Mortis advertises first-person combat built around different weapon types and supernatural abilities, while Lies of P emphasizes combining weapons and using Legion Arms.

What the Valor Mortis features suggest
Its advertised combination of melee weapons, firearms, and magic offers a broad set of combat categories, while parries, dashes, and finishers identify some of the actions players can expect to use. The developer calls its system “unique” and first-person; that is the developer’s description, not an independent assessment of responsiveness or quality.

Neither set of official descriptions is enough to rank the games by difficulty, speed, polish, parry timing, stamina rules, or combat satisfaction. Those are experiential judgments, not conclusions that follow from a feature list.
How their worlds and stories differ

You play William, a soldier from Napoleon’s Grande Armée who is resurrected in a plague-stricken, alternate-history 19th-century Europe. The Steam description presents a wartorn setting with historical figures, horror, and conspiracy. Its premise combines military history with supernatural threats.

Lies of P: a dark Pinocchio retelling in Krat
Lies of P recasts Pinocchio in Krat, a city shaped by the Belle Époque and its puppet industry. The official site centers the story on uncovering secrets and choosing whether to lie or tell the truth. The result is a fairy-tale reinterpretation built around puppets and urban horror, rather than the war-and-plague backdrop of Valor Mortis.

Which game fits your preferences?
- Consider Valor Mortis if first-person combat, a mix of swords, firearms, and magic, or a plague-and-war alternate history is what interests you.
- Consider Lies of P if a Pinocchio-inspired story, Krat’s puppet-centered setting, weapon combinations, Legion Arms, or choices between truth and lies appeal more.
- Compare them through gameplay footage or a hands-on session if your decision depends on feel, difficulty, or responsiveness. The official feature descriptions do not settle those questions.
