What is Valor Mortis?
Developed by One More Level and published by Lyrical Games, Valor Mortis is a single-player PS5 action RPG. You play William, a soldier in Napoleon’s Grande Armée who returns from a battlefield grave to a Europe transformed by a mysterious plague. The setting combines 19th-century alternate history with horror and supernatural elements.

PlayStation lists October 13, 2026 as the release date. However, a US Store capture made at 14:59 UTC on October 13 still showed a release countdown. PlayStation LifeStyle, in an article republished by AOL that day, reported a 10 a.m. PT availability time. The two indications frame it as an October 13 release, but they do not establish that it was purchasable at the time of that Store capture. The 77/100 Metacritic score cited on launch day came from 39 critic reviews, according to PlayStation LifeStyle’s October 13 report. It is a dated secondary report; the score and review count can change. The available reviews identify strengths in combat and setting, alongside caveats that matter if you are deciding whether to buy.
Combat and setting are the main draws
In its PS5 Pro and European-version review, Push Square praised the first-person combat, level design and grim Napoleonic atmosphere, while noting some stumbles. GamesRadar+’s PC review praised the immediacy of parrying and some boss fights. The game’s first-person, parry-centered approach is a better fit for players who enjoy demanding timing and close-range encounters than for anyone seeking a relaxed action RPG.

GamesRadar+ criticized scripted parkour and familiar mechanics, and reported crashes and uneven framerate on its PC review setup. The reviewer said a launch-day patch was expected to address many technical issues. At capture, PlayStation’s official Canada page showed no user ratings or reviews and invited players to submit the first rating. Push Square also showed zero user ratings. How much does Valor Mortis cost?
PlayStation LifeStyle’s October 13, 2026 report listed US prices of $39.99 for the Standard Edition and $59.99 for the Deluxe Edition. Confirm the live checkout price for your region, since those reported US prices may not apply elsewhere. The available sources do not establish distinct gameplay content between the editions or whether Deluxe includes physical items; do not assume it is a physical collector’s edition. Valor Mortis looks most appealing if you want a first-person Soulslike built around parries, precise combat and a grim alternate-history setting. Reviews give reason to be interested, but “great reviews” overstates what a 77/100 launch-day snapshot alone establishes. Consider your tolerance for scripted platforming, and do not apply the PC review’s technical complaints—or the hoped-for patch’s expected fixes—to PS5 without platform-specific evidence.
