Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted V Rising servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
For a first serious run, join a recently opened official PvE Cooperative server on Normal difficulty. Check the in-game browser for region, server age and population before creating your vampire. Choose PvP only if your group wants territorial conflict and accepts the server’s raid schedule, and save Brutal for a later playthrough. Official worlds are seasonal, and your character, castle, gear and abilities cannot move to another server, so the first choice matters.
What an official V Rising server is
V Rising is a gothic open-world survival action RPG from Stunlock Studios. You can play alone or online with other players, with versions available on Steam and PlayStation 5. An official server is a Stunlock-operated world with a defined ruleset, player-cap policy and planned reset schedule. It is intended to provide a consistent multiplayer environment, not to be a permanent save that lasts forever.

Stunlock’s official-server announcement states that every server has a cap of 60 players. The same announcement says every official server eventually resets. A reset removes the world’s accumulated progress so a new season can begin; it is not merely a restart of an inactive area. That makes server age and the remaining season length important when you are deciding where to invest time in a castle.
Official listings can change as worlds fill, reset or receive new capacity. Stunlock has said it may open additional servers partway through a reset cycle so players can find a world with meaningful time remaining. Treat the browser’s live information as more authoritative than an old launch-day list.

Understand the official server labels and reset schedules
The label combines several decisions: whether combat between players is enabled, how many people are expected to form a group, when castles may be raided and how long the season is scheduled to run. The published categories are:
| Official category | Core rules | Published reset interval |
|---|---|---|
| PvE Squad | Cooperative play; squad-sized grouping | 6 months |
| PvE Squad Brutal | Cooperative play on Brutal difficulty | 6 months |
| PvP Squad Weekend Raids | Squad PvP; raids available during the listed weekend window | 3 months |
| PvP Squad Brutal Weekend Raids | Squad PvP, Brutal difficulty and weekend raids | 3 months |
| PvP Trio Weekend Raids | PvP groups of three; weekend raids | 3 months |
| PvP Duo Weekend Raids | PvP groups of two; weekend raids | 3 months |
| PvP Squad No Raids | Squad PvP with raids disabled | 1 month |
| PvP Squad Merciless (full loot) Daily Raids | Squad PvP, full-loot Merciless rules and daily raids | 1 month |
These are policy categories, not a promise that every category will appear in your region at every moment. “Squad,” “Trio” and “Duo” describe the intended group size. “Weekend Raids,” “No Raids” and “Daily Raids” describe when, or whether, a castle can be attacked. “Merciless” and “full loot” indicate a much harsher loss model than a normal cooperative world.

Should a beginner choose PvE or PvP?
Choose PvE for learning the core loop
PvE is the cleanest starting environment if you need to learn weapon abilities, movement, gathering, castle construction, blood management and V Blood boss routes. You can experiment with weapon swaps and retreat from a difficult encounter without another player using the same moment to attack your castle. It also lets you learn the day-and-night rhythm at your own pace.
PvE does not remove all danger. Sunlight, hostile creatures, bosses, resource scarcity and travel decisions still matter. It simply removes player attacks as an additional source of pressure.

Choose PvP when conflict is the point
PvP is appropriate when your group actively wants contested territory, ambushes, castle defense and the tension of a raid schedule. Read the complete label rather than stopping at “PvP.” A Duo server is a different social commitment from a Squad server, and a Weekend Raid server creates a different routine from Daily Raids or No Raids.
Before joining, agree on who will play, how often you can defend the castle and whether the published raid window fits your time zone. A group that cannot be online during the allowed raid period may prefer PvE or a PvP No Raids ruleset, while a group seeking constant pressure may deliberately choose Daily Raids.
Which difficulty is best for a first playthrough?
| Difficulty | What changes | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Relaxed | Reduced sun damage, slower blood drain, lower enemy damage and lower V Blood boss health | A low-pressure building or sightseeing run |
| Normal | The standard, tuned action-combat survival experience | Most first serious playthroughs |
| Brutal | Bosses may gain new behaviors and abilities, more health, higher levels and significantly more damage; ordinary enemies hit harder. Loot is higher and item durability drains more slowly. | Players who have already experienced Vardoran |
Normal is the sensible default for a new player because it teaches the intended progression without reducing every threat. Relaxed is useful if your priority is building and you want less punishment while learning. Brutal is not simply “Normal with bigger numbers”: boss behavior can change, and the increased damage and health alter how you prepare for fights. Stunlock’s own guidance says Brutal is recommended only for vampires who have already experienced the full breadth of Vardoran at least once.
How to pick the right official server in the browser
- Open the in-game server browser before creating your character. Character progress is tied to the server, so choosing first prevents an avoidable restart.
- Filter for the ruleset you actually want. For a first run, look for PvE Cooperative (or the current equivalent wording) and Normal. For a group seeking conflict, verify Duo, Trio or Squad and the exact raid type.
- Check the region. Prefer the region geographically closest to the group. A distant region can add latency and make combat timing less forgiving.
- Inspect server age or remaining season time. Select a recently opened world when possible. You want enough time to learn, build and defeat bosses before the scheduled reset.
- Look at population. A completely empty world may provide little social activity, while a crowded one can make territory and resources more contested. Choose the balance that matches your group.
- Confirm the reset label one more time. A six-month PvE season suits a long architectural project better than a one-month PvP season.
- Create the vampire only after the choice is final. Do not assume you can move the finished character later.
A practical first-session survival plan
1. Make daylight part of your route planning
Vampires gain power after dusk, but sunlight is a persistent hazard. Travel through shade, pause under cover when necessary and reserve exposed crossings for night when possible. Gather materials and plan your return route instead of letting the sun force an improvised detour. The official game description emphasizes using nighttime to gather blood and resources; treating dawn as a deadline makes early trips safer.
2. Establish a functional castle before decorating
Place the first castle where travel to nearby resources and progression targets is manageable. Put storage and crafting stations close together so every return trip converts materials into useful equipment quickly. Build defensively, but postpone elaborate decoration until the first progression gates are complete. A beautiful castle in an inefficient location costs more time than it saves.

Blood quality affects how effectively you approach difficult content, so do not begin a major V Blood attempt with an unsuitable blood source if you have a better option available. Carry healing items, repair materials and enough supplies for a retreat. A failed attempt is recoverable; a fight started without a way to heal or repair can turn a small mistake into a long recovery trip.
4. Learn weapons before committing to a boss
Practice each weapon’s movement and ability timing against ordinary enemies. Bosses test positioning, cooldown management and the ability to react while moving, not just raw equipment level. Try weapon swaps in a safe area so the controls are automatic when an encounter becomes chaotic.
5. Keep a retreat route
Before entering hostile territory, identify shade, a nearby waystone or another safe fallback. Do not chase an enemy so far that daylight, patrols or a second group cuts off the return path. On PvP servers, also consider whether another player could observe the route or exploit a predictable travel time.
6. Match the project to the reset horizon
Use the browser’s reset information when deciding how much time to spend on construction. A one-month PvP world is a poor fit for a months-long architectural project. A six-month PvE world provides a more suitable runway for a large castle and a complete progression route, although the published interval is still a schedule rather than a guarantee that every listing remains unchanged.
7. Expect a fresh start on another server
If the population, rules or reset date stop fitting your group, changing servers means beginning again. Plan storage, research and castle construction with that limitation in mind rather than treating the first world as a transferable foundation.

Can you transfer a character between official servers?
No. In a July 2025 support article, Stunlock stated: “At this time, character transfers between servers are not supported in V Rising.” Progression, gear, castle ownership and unlocked abilities remain tied to the server where the character was created. Starting another official or private server requires creating a new vampire, although the same Steam or PlayStation account can be used to play it.
Copying save files can be technically possible in some private-hosting situations, but Stunlock describes that approach as unsupported, potentially unstable and unavailable on official servers. It is not a method for moving an official character into a different official world.

When a private or dedicated server makes more sense
Official servers are a good fit when you want a maintained ruleset and a known seasonal structure. Consider a private or dedicated server when your group needs control over reset timing, access, difficulty or world hazards. Stunlock’s private-game documentation describes Advanced Game Settings and a full settings list. Hosts can adjust multipliers such as health, power and blood drain, as well as hazards including garlic, silver and sun.
A private world does not remove the need to plan backups, permissions, uptime and compatibility. Confirm the current game version, server software support and region before committing to a host. If you want a long-running architectural world with no forced official reset, a private or dedicated setup is the appropriate category to investigate rather than trying to avoid an official season reset.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
- Joining by name alone: Read the full label. Group size and raid timing can change the game more than the server’s title suggests.
- Ignoring server age: A mature world can leave a new player far behind established castles. Look for a newer listing with substantial time remaining.
- Choosing Brutal for novelty: Brutal is designed around additional boss behaviors, damage and health. Use Normal first unless you already understand the complete progression loop.
- Building without checking the reset: Match the scale of the castle to the remaining season, especially on one-month PvP categories.
- Assuming an account syncs progress: Using the same account on another server does not carry over the vampire, gear, castle or abilities.
- Starting a daytime expedition without cover: Plan shade and a return route before leaving, rather than relying on luck when dawn arrives.
The short decision rule
Choose a recently opened official PvE Cooperative server on Normal if you are learning. Select the closest suitable region, verify population and reset timing in the browser, and build a practical castle before investing in decoration. Move to PvP when your group specifically wants raids and territorial conflict, and move to Brutal after you have completed a normal progression cycle. Every official world is a season, and every new server is a fresh vampire.
