In V Rising, glass is a progression material for potion containers, blood-processing equipment, Castle Heart upgrades, windows, mirrors, lamps, and other furnishings. A Furnace converts Quartz into Glass after you unlock the recipe from Grethel the Glassblower. The standard recipe is 20 Quartz for 1 Glass and takes 60 seconds; with the listed floor bonus, it uses 15 Quartz and takes 48 seconds.
The efficient approach is to unlock the recipe before committing to large decorative projects, collect Quartz from the available Dunley-area locations, and reserve enough Glass for Empty Glass Bottles and potion production.
What Glass does in V Rising
Glass sits between raw crystal gathering and several important crafting chains. You do not mine it as your primary source: you normally refine Quartz in a Furnace, then spend the finished Glass on containers, blood-related stations, Castle upgrades, and decorative pieces.
- Refining: A Furnace, or an Advanced Furnace when the recipe is available there, turns Quartz into Glass.
- Alchemy: Glass becomes Empty Glass Bottles, which are used in potion recipes including Blood Potions and Blood Merlots.
- Construction: Glass appears in Castle Heart level 3, blood-storage structures, windows, mirrors, dressing tables, folding screens, lamps, and decorative glassware.
- Progression: Related item records place Glass alongside Quartz, Scourgestone, and Empty Crystal Flask in broader crystal-material and refinement chains.
Because bottles support consumables while construction can consume large quantities at once, Glass is usually more valuable as a planned reserve than as a material to spend immediately on decoration.

How to unlock the Glass recipe
Defeat Grethel the Glassblower
The Glass recipe is tied to Grethel the Glassblower, a V Blood unlock source. If Glass does not appear in your Furnace recipes, the missing step is normally progression rather than a missing workstation ingredient. Track Grethel through the V Blood interface and prepare for the Quartz Mine/Glassblower milestone before planning a major Glass production run.
The exact progression experience can differ with server settings and game patches. Confirm that Grethel is available in the active version of the server before assuming an apparently missing recipe is a bug.

- Open the V Blood progression panel and verify that Grethel the Glassblower has been defeated on the current character.
- Return to a Furnace and search its recipe list for Glass.
- If the recipe is available in your version, also check an Advanced Furnace; the same recipe may be listed there when that station is supported.
- Make sure the Quartz is in the station’s input inventory rather than only in your character inventory.
How to make Glass, step by step
Recipe requirements

The floor figures are the reduced values shown with the game’s listed floor bonus. They are not a different item or a separate recipe; they are the same Furnace conversion under the bonus condition.
Crafting procedure
- Build or access a Furnace. An Advanced Furnace can also be used when its Glass recipe is present.
- Place Quartz in the input slot. The normal conversion consumes 20 Quartz for each Glass.
- Check the station conditions. If the listed floor bonus is active, the interface should show 15 Quartz and 48 seconds instead.
- Start the queue. Each completed cycle produces 1 Glass. Keep the station supplied if you need a large batch.
- Collect the Glass from the output slot. Move it to storage before beginning another project so bottle and construction inventories remain easy to audit.
Planning production time
The displayed 60-second figure is the base duration for one conversion cycle. With the floor bonus, the displayed cycle is 48 seconds. The bonus also lowers the Quartz consumed per Glass, so placing the Furnace on the qualifying floor is useful when Quartz is the limiting resource as well as when time is tight.

Where to find Quartz and Glass
The documented locations include the Quartz Quarry, Dunley Monastery, Dawnbreak Village, and Trancendum Laboratories. The Glass listing specifically identifies Glass as lootable in Dunley Monastery in the Dunley Farmlands. Choosing between locations
There is no single best route for every castle or server. Compare each option on three practical axes:
- Distance and danger: A nearby site can be more productive than a richer site if travel, enemies, or repeated recovery trips slow the run.
- Raw Quartz versus finished Glass: Raw Quartz must still spend Furnace time, while already-refined Glass can go directly into a bottle or building recipe. The location data does not provide a standardized yield comparison, so do not assume one site always produces more finished material.
- Immediate demand: If Blood Potions or Blood Merlots are your next objective, prioritize enough Glass for bottles before spending it on windows or furnishings.
Making Empty Glass Bottles
The dedicated bottle recipe
Empty Glass Bottles are the most important downstream use of Glass for many characters because they feed potion production. The dedicated Empty Glass Bottle entry lists 4 Glass per bottle, with the parenthesized floor-bonus value shown as 3 Glass.

These two displays should not be combined as though they were one universal interface. The first is a per-bottle entry; the second is a five-bottle batch listing. Use the values shown by the station and game version you are playing.

Why bottles should get priority
Empty Glass Bottles are described as ingredients for potions, specifically including Blood Potions and Blood Merlots. That makes them a recurring consumable requirement rather than a one-time unlock cost. Before starting a large window or furniture project, count the bottles needed for your next potion batch and reserve that Glass.
Buying bottles instead of crafting them
The Rural Goods Merchant is listed as an alternative source, selling stacks of five Empty Glass Bottles for 10 Silver Coins. Buying can save Furnace time when Silver is available, while crafting preserves Silver for other expenses. The merchant option does not remove the value of Glass: you still need Glass for construction and other recipes.

Castle and blood-management structures
The Glass recipe listing includes Glass in the Castle Heart level 3 recipe, with the listed requirement reaching 24 Glass. Glass also appears in the Advanced Blood Press, Blood Homogenizer, and small and large blood-potion storage recipes. These uses compete directly with bottle production, so plan them as separate material budgets.
Windows and furnishings
Glass is listed for both clear and colored windows, mirrors, dressing tables, folding screens, lamps, and decorative glassware. The database describes quantities ranging from 1 Glass for some lamps or tableware to the 24 Glass shown for the Castle Heart level 3 recipe. - Unlock first. Complete the Grethel the Glassblower milestone before setting a large Glass target.
- Gather from the most practical listed site. Choose among the Quartz Quarry, Dunley Monastery, Dawnbreak Village, and Trancendum Laboratories according to distance, danger, and whether you need raw Quartz or a chance at finished Glass.
- Refine with the floor bonus. Put the Furnace under the listed qualifying floor condition so the interface shows the lower 15-Quartz, 48-second values.
- Reserve bottle material. Set aside Glass for Empty Glass Bottles before allocating the remainder to construction.
- Cover blood-processing needs. If Castle Heart level 3, an Advanced Blood Press, a Blood Homogenizer, or blood-potion storage is next, budget those recipes separately.
- Spend the surplus on appearance. Use remaining Glass for clear or colored windows, mirrors, dressing tables, folding screens, lamps, and glassware only after progression and potion requirements are covered.
Troubleshooting common problems
Glass is not in the Furnace list
Check the V Blood progression status for Grethel the Glassblower, then reopen the Furnace interface. If the boss is defeated but the recipe still does not appear, verify that the server has finished updating and that you are playing the same version whose recipe table you consulted.
The Furnace consumes more Quartz than expected
Read the live recipe panel rather than relying on a remembered value. The standard display is 20 Quartz for 1 Glass; the lower 15-Quartz figure requires the listed floor bonus. If the panel shows 20, inspect the floor condition and the station placement.

Crafting feels too slow
The base cycle is displayed as 60 seconds, or 48 seconds with the listed floor bonus. Run another Quartz gathering trip while the Furnace works, or use an additional available Furnace if your base layout and resources support parallel production.

You run out of Glass after building
Count upcoming Empty Glass Bottles and blood-related structures before beginning decorative construction. A window or furnishing is optional; bottles and progression stations can block your next objective if their reserve is spent first.
A listed location does not match your server
Locations and recipe tables can change with patches or server settings. Compare the in-game map, loot containers, and recipe panel with the current server version instead of assuming an older location table still applies.
