Used Cars Simulator is not automatically “broken” when a car, container, quest, repair resource, or launch screen misbehaves. DreamWay Games has confirmed and fixed several historical defects, while other symptoms—such as being unable to sell a rusted car—remain player reports rather than verified bugs. Start by identifying the exact symptom, updating through Steam, and checking your system against the published requirements before changing saves or reinstalling.
This guide covers the Windows Steam release, including the developer fixes dated August 14 and September 7, 2026. Those fixes describe earlier builds; a symptom that matched them may already be resolved in your current version.

That distinction matters. A note saying a progression bug was fixed is not proof that every missing car today has the same cause, and a single discussion title is not proof of a universal game defect.

Meeting the minimum specification only means that the computer is within the listed baseline. It does not promise a steady frame rate, no stutter, or immunity from crashes. If your hardware is below the minimum, performance and launch failures should be treated as compatibility risks first. If it is near the minimum, close other applications, leave additional free disk space for updates, and test whether the symptom changes at lower graphics settings before calling it a gameplay bug.
A safe troubleshooting sequence
Use this order so that you do not discard useful evidence or mistake an old defect for a current one.
- Describe the symptom precisely. Record whether the game will not start, a quest is blocked, an object is missing, scrap changes unexpectedly, a sale interaction fails, or performance is poor. “The game is broken” is a useful search phrase but not enough information to diagnose anything.
- Record the installed build. Note the version shown by Steam or the game, when the problem first appeared, and whether it began immediately after an update.
- Install the latest Steam update. The known fixes are tied to dated builds. Do not assume that an old hotfix is still pending on your machine.
- Compare your PC with the Steam requirements. Check the processor, graphics card, RAM, Windows architecture, and free storage, not just one specification.
- For an update-related launch failure, verify local files. In Steam, open Library, right-click Used Cars Simulator, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and run the option to verify the integrity of the installed files. DreamWay Games recommends this check for some post-update launch problems, but does not claim it resolves every launch failure.
- Match the symptom to a documented fix. Use the categories below. A close match gives you a sensible next step; it does not prove that the historical bug is still present.
- Preserve details for an unresolved report. Keep the save context, reproduction steps, build number, relevant skills or items, exact error text, and before-and-after inventory or object state.
Why the date of a fix matters
The game moved from Early Access, which began on April 9, 2025, to a full release on October 9, 2026. During that period, the same symptom could have different explanations in different builds. A report from an Early Access save is not automatically evidence that the October release still contains the same defect. Conversely, a player who has not received the current Steam update may still be running the code addressed by a later hotfix.

Before testing, write down the date and build shown by Steam, whether the save predates an update, and whether the problem started after a patch. This simple timeline helps separate a regression, an old save-state problem, a file-installation problem, and a rule that the game intentionally applies. It also prevents a support report from combining several unrelated symptoms under one headline.

Missing cars, containers, or quest objects
What was confirmed
In a September 7, 2026 developer community announcement, DreamWay Games described a defect that allowed the same car to be sold repeatedly. The resulting progression failure was linked with several related symptoms: containers that could not be opened, cars for sale that failed to appear, and quest cars that failed to spawn. The announcement says the fix addressed those behaviors.
What to do now
- Check that Steam has downloaded the newest available update and that the game is launching from the updated installation.
- Load the affected save and determine whether the missing object is absent every time or appears after restarting, changing location, or completing another action.
- Compare the current behavior with the historical pattern: repeated sale of one car followed by blocked progression, an unopened container, an empty sale listing, or a missing quest vehicle.
- If the issue remains in the current build, avoid assuming that the old bug is the cause. Record the save stage, the action immediately before the object disappeared, and whether a new save shows the same behavior.
- Report the reproducible case through the developer’s community channels and Steam support/community resources.
The hotfix establishes that these symptoms occurred in an earlier build. It does not establish that every missing object in a current save is caused by that defect, nor does the announcement provide a universal save-repair procedure.
Scrap disappears during a repair
The specific historical bug
A developer hotfix dated August 14, 2026 addressed scrap being removed beyond the amount required when a player repaired a car with a single hit while possessing particular repair-related skills. The note says that behavior was fixed.
How to document a recurrence
If scrap still disappears, do not spend more inventory trying to reproduce it blindly. Capture:
- the repair method, including whether the repair was completed with one hit;
- the repair-related skills active at the time;
- the game version and date of the test;
- the car and damage state, if relevant;
- the scrap count immediately before and after the repair; and

The game or part of it will not launch after an update
What the developer says
DreamWay Games’ community announcement warns that “Sometimes you can have a problem with launching the game (or some parts of it) after the update.” It says the cause may be Steam rather than the game and recommends checking local files.
Launch checklist
- Confirm that Steam finished downloading the update; pause and resume the download if the client still shows pending work.
- Run Steam’s Installed Files verification for the game.
- Restart Steam and Windows, then try again without launching other overlays or demanding applications.
- Check whether the failure affects the whole game, one menu, a save, or a specific feature. “Part of the game” is not specific enough for a useful report.
- Write down the exact error message, the current build, and whether the problem began directly after the update.
- If verification does not help, consult Steam’s game support and community discussions and send the same details to the developer’s community channel.
File verification is an official first check, not a guaranteed fix. The announcement does not promise a solution for every post-update launch problem, and it does not identify one universal cause.
“Can’t sell rusted cars” and other sale failures
Why this report needs caution
“Can’t sell rusted cars” appears as a community question. It is useful search language, but it is not developer confirmation that rusted vehicles are always sellable, never sellable, or affected by a bug. The available official information does not document the game’s exact sale conditions or provide a fix for this specific report.
Questions that separate a rule from a malfunction
- Does the vehicle meet the sale conditions shown in the current game interface?
- Does the same failure occur with another vehicle, or only with one rusted car?
- Does the interaction fail through every available sale route, or only one screen or location?
- Does the behavior change after updating, restarting, or loading a different save?
- Is there an error message, a disabled control, or simply no response?

How to report an unresolved problem
A concise, reproducible report helps the developer distinguish a current defect from an old save or an unverified rule.

- List exact steps: include the save stage, vehicle, container, repair action, skill, or sale route involved.
- State the expected and observed result: explain what should happen and what actually happens.
- Include frequency: say whether it happened once, every time, or only in one save.
- Attach useful evidence: screenshots, error text, and before-and-after inventory counts when appropriate.
- Protect personal information: remove account details from screenshots before posting.
Steam’s support area links players to community discussions and guides. Use those channels alongside the developer’s community posts, while remembering that another player’s workaround is not automatically an official or safe fix.
What not to conclude too quickly
A successful file check does not prove that a save is healthy, and a failed check does not prove that the game code is defective. Likewise, meeting the recommended specification does not establish that every crash is a software bug.
