You can use Google’s Gemini in Firefox; switching to Chrome is not required. Mozilla lists Gemini as an option in Firefox’s AI chatbot sidebar. Chrome’s difference is tighter integration: Google says Gemini in Chrome can use the current tab and, on a computer, up to 10 open tabs, with certain Google app integrations. Whether that is worth switching for depends on the features available to you and how much you want Gemini to work with your browsing context.
How to use Gemini in Firefox
Mozilla’s AI chatbot feature lets you choose a provider in the Firefox sidebar. Firefox 133 and later includes Google Gemini among the available chatbot choices; Firefox 143 adds Microsoft Copilot to the listed options. Provider availability and interface details may change, so consult Mozilla’s Firefox AI chatbot instructions for the current setup.
-
Update Firefox to version 133 or later.
-
Open the AI chatbot feature in the Firefox sidebar.

The sidebar gives you a way to use Gemini from Firefox, but that is not the same as Chrome’s stated ability to share the active page or several open tabs directly with its built-in assistant.
What Gemini in Chrome adds
Google presents Gemini in Chrome as an assistant for asking questions about web content and comparing information across open tabs. According to Google’s computer help page, content from the current tab is shared by default, and a computer user can share up to 10 open tabs. Google says users can stop sharing a tab.

- Bedside Speaker and Sleep Sound Machine: This compact wireless speaker combines Bluetooth audio, 16 built-in sleep sounds (white noise, brown noise, rain, ocean, and more) and multiple RGB night light modes in one rechargeable device. Stream music while the light pulses in time with your audio, or switch to sleep mode and drift off to the sound you picked. A practical gift for teens and adults upgrading a bedroom setup.
- One Button, Your AI, Instantly: The BRS-180 has a dedicated AI button on top. Press it once and it wakes Google Assistant, Siri, or whichever assistant lives on your paired device. Ask it anything, play music, set a reminder, check the weather, or control your smart home, all from across the room without picking up your phone.
- Pairs in Seconds and Stays Connected: Bluetooth connects to any iOS or Android phone, tablet, or laptop with no app and no account required. Once paired, the 12-hour LED clock display syncs the correct time on its own. Three display settings keep you in control: full brightness, dimmed, or completely off for total darkness. A memory function saves your last volume, sleep sound, and light settings automatically.
- Built for the Nightstand, Night After Night: The soft fabric-wrapped enclosure sits on a nightstand, dresser, or shelf without looking like a gadget. Plug it in over USB-C and it runs continuously, or use the built-in rechargeable battery for up to 6 hours of wireless playback. Either way it is ready when you are. Available in White, Black, and Green.
- 16 Sleep Sounds, Fully Customizable: Choose from 16 built-in sleep sounds that play straight from the speaker with no phone, no app, and no subscription. Set a 15, 30, or 60-minute sleep timer and the sound fades out by itself. Want a different library? Connect it to any PC with the included USB-C cable and swap out every sound stored on the device.
That context can be useful when you want a summary of a page or a comparison across several pages without copying their contents into a separate chat. Google also describes integrations with services such as Calendar and YouTube, and promotes interactions with other Google services. These are Google’s stated capabilities, not an independent assessment of how well they work in practice. See Google’s Gemini in Chrome feature page for its current feature descriptions.
Google’s feature page also describes reusable prompt Skills. It labels content selection as “Coming soon,” so do not assume that feature is generally available. Product features and availability can vary as Google rolls them out.

Check whether Gemini in Chrome is available to you
Chrome access is not universal. Google lists a supported region and language, a Chromebook Plus, Mac, or Windows computer, a current version of Chrome, and a signed-in profile among the requirements. Gemini in Chrome is not supported in Incognito. If you use a work or school account, your administrator may need to enable access. Check Google’s eligibility and setup details before changing browsers for a feature that may not be enabled for your account or location.
Availability has also expanded in stages. Google reported desktop and iOS expansion in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and other markets in June 2026, and a UK desktop rollout in July 2026, with UK iOS expansion then planned for the following month. Those announcements describe rollout snapshots, not a guarantee that Gemini in Chrome is available everywhere today. See Google’s dated updates on expansion to more markets and the UK rollout.

Choose based on the feature you actually need
| What matters to you | Firefox with Gemini | Gemini in Chrome |
|---|---|---|
| Use Gemini without changing browsers | Mozilla lists Gemini as a chatbot provider in Firefox’s sidebar. | Available only if Google’s device, account, region, language, and other conditions are met. |
| Ask about the page you are viewing | The cited Mozilla documentation establishes sidebar chatbot access, not Chrome-style sharing of page content. | Google says current-tab content is shared by default. |
| Compare several open tabs | The cited Mozilla documentation does not establish multi-tab context for Gemini in Firefox. | Google says a computer user can share up to 10 tabs. |
| Use Google service integrations | The cited Mozilla documentation does not establish Chrome’s Google app integrations. | Google describes integrations including Calendar and YouTube; the exact experience may depend on availability and account conditions. |
| Choose among chatbot providers in the browser | Firefox’s sidebar is designed to let users choose an AI chatbot provider; available choices vary by Firefox version. | The cited Google documentation describes Gemini in Chrome. |
The comparison is about documented features, not a measured quality or speed ranking. Google announced additional Chrome AI capabilities in September 2025, including past-page recall and AI Mode in the omnibox, but parts of that announcement were forthcoming or rolling out. Treat those as announced plans unless Google’s current help pages confirm availability for your account and region: Google’s announcement of Chrome AI features.
Consider provider terms and page sharing
Using Gemini through Firefox’s sidebar does not make the chatbot independent of Google’s policies. Mozilla says users are subject to the selected provider’s terms and privacy policy, and advises verifying chatbot outputs. In Chrome, Google documents controls for sharing tab content, including the ability to stop sharing a tab. Review the provider’s terms and the sharing controls before using either option with sensitive information; neither browser should be treated as a blanket privacy guarantee.
So, should you switch back?
Stay with Firefox if sidebar access to Gemini meets your needs and you prefer Firefox’s choice of chatbot providers. Consider Chrome if you specifically want Google’s documented current-page and multi-tab context or its stated Google service integrations—and first confirm that Gemini in Chrome is available for your device, account, and region. The cited product material establishes these feature differences, but does not establish that Gemini has driven users to switch browsers or that Chrome’s experience is better for everyone.
