Short answer: Polygon’s current deployment is Polygon-native USDT0, not the former USDT token that was bridged through Polygon PoS. Polygon announced the upgrade on August 27, 2025, said users did not need to take action, and disabled the old Polygon USDT bridge contract. “USDT on Polygon” may still be used as a general label, but a current USDT0 route sends the USDT0 representation to Polygon. Before transferring, verify the network, the full token contract, the recipient’s supported deposit network, and the live route quote.
What changed on Polygon?
Polygon’s August 27, 2025 announcement describes a migration from its earlier bridged USDT deployment to Polygon-native USDT0. The announcement states that users did not need to take action and that the previous Polygon USDT bridge contract was disabled. This is the key reason older guides, wallet labels, and exchange instructions can appear to conflict with current Polygon documentation.
The practical implication is that “USDT on Polygon” is no longer a precise description of the transfer mechanism. It can mean USDT intended for use on Polygon in a user interface, while the current cross-chain design described by Polygon and USDT0 is USDT0. Always identify the exact token contract and route rather than relying on the ticker alone.

USDT0 is the token and cross-chain transfer system used for the current Polygon deployment described in the official material. USDT0’s Polygon page lists the Polygon contract as 0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F and says that bridging through the USDT0 route delivers USDT0 on Polygon.

The name does not mean that Polygon users receive a different dollar denomination. It identifies the deployment and transfer architecture. A token display may still show “USDT,” “USDT0,” or a shortened symbol depending on the wallet or service. The contract and selected network are the authoritative checks.
USDT0 and “USDT on Polygon” compared
| Question | Current USDT0 route | Older or generic “USDT on Polygon” wording |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment described by current Polygon materials | Polygon-native USDT0 | Previously, USDT was bridged through Polygon PoS; that bridge contract was disabled after the upgrade |
| What arrives through the USDT0 route | USDT0 on Polygon | The phrase may describe the intended asset without identifying its transfer system |
| Polygon contract listed by USDT0 | 0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F |
Do not infer a contract from an old article, wallet label, or saved address |
| How to validate a transfer | Check the live quote, source and destination chains, contract, fees, and recipient support | A ticker or static network list alone is insufficient |
| Route design | USDT0 Network routes use the USDT0 cross-chain system; routes involving native USDT can use the Legacy Mesh | Older instructions may refer to a bridge path that no longer represents the current Polygon deployment |
Which contract should you use on Polygon?
USDT0 lists 0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F as the Polygon USDT contract and says this is the contract received when bridging through USDT0. Treat the address as network-specific: the same text string should not be assumed to represent the token on another chain.
Verify the address before sending
- Open the current official USDT0 or receiving-service documentation instead of relying on a search snippet or an old bookmark.
- Confirm that the selected network is Polygon, not another chain with a similar ticker.
- Compare every character of the contract, including the first and last six characters, with
0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F. - Check whether the wallet has imported a custom token under an outdated symbol or contract.
- For an exchange deposit, use the exchange’s own current network and token instructions. A wallet contract match does not prove that the exchange accepts deposits on that route.
Do not send funds merely because a wallet displays “USDT.” Wallets can reuse symbols for different contracts, and a token list can remain visible after a bridge or issuer changes its deployment.

How a USDT0 transfer to or from Polygon works
The basic operation is a route selection followed by a quoted transaction. USDT0’s user flow is to connect a wallet, choose the asset, select source and destination chains, review the quote, and confirm. The destination balance should be checked on Polygon after finality, using the Polygon contract above.
Step-by-step route check
- Connect the wallet. Use the wallet that controls the source-chain USDT and confirm that its network selector is on the intended source chain.
- Select the asset. Choose the exact USDT or USDT0 asset offered by the route interface. Do not substitute a similarly named token manually unless the interface and official documentation identify it as the required asset.
- Choose source and destination chains. Set Polygon as the destination when moving funds to Polygon, or as the source when moving them away. The chain pair determines whether the route is within the USDT0 Network or involves the Legacy Mesh.
- Enter the amount and recipient. Recheck the recipient address on the destination network. A correct address on the wrong chain can still result in an unusable deposit.
- Read the live quote. Confirm the amount received, protocol fee, estimated gas, slippage or any route limit shown, and the quote’s expiry. A network listed in a developer configuration is not proof that a route is currently executable.
- Approve the token if requested. Review the spender address and allowance in the wallet. Prefer the smallest allowance that supports the transfer when the wallet offers that choice.
- Confirm the transfer. Pay the source-chain gas and wait for the interface to report completion. Do not submit a second transfer merely because the first one is still processing.
- Verify on Polygon. Switch to Polygon, locate the recipient address, and confirm the balance under the official USDT0 contract. If the destination is an exchange, wait for the exchange’s required confirmations before treating the deposit as credited.
Why the exact source-token-destination combination matters
Tether’s WDK guidance recommends quoting the precise source-token-destination combination. A static list of supported networks, a code example, or a route visible in configuration does not establish that every pair is live at the moment you transfer. Availability can change with liquidity, maintenance, or route configuration, so the live quote is the operational test.

USDT0 fees versus routes involving native USDT
USDT0 states that transfers between Polygon and another USDT0 Network chain have no USDT0 protocol fee. You still pay gas on the source and destination chains, and the quoted amount can reflect other route conditions. “No protocol fee” therefore does not mean that the transfer is free.
USDT0 also states that a route involving native USDT on its Legacy Mesh—Solana, TON, Tron, or Celo—costs 0.03%, or 3 basis points, paid in USDT. This fee applies to the route category described by USDT0, not automatically to every transfer that contains the word USDT. Check the live quote before signing.
| Route category | Stated protocol fee | Other charges and checks |
|---|---|---|
| Polygon ↔ another USDT0 Network chain | No USDT0 protocol fee stated | Source- and destination-chain gas still applies; confirm the live quote |
| Route involving native USDT on the Legacy Mesh (Solana, TON, Tron, or Celo) | 0.03% (3 bps), paid in USDT | Confirm that the selected route is actually in this category and review gas and the received amount |
| Any route shown in a static configuration or network list | Not established by the list | Obtain a current quote for the exact source token and destination |
How to estimate the fee in practice
- Record the amount you intend to send and the source-chain balance available for gas.
- Open the route interface and select the exact source token, source chain, destination chain, and recipient.
- Compare the gross amount, protocol fee, estimated gas, and net destination amount shown in the quote.
- Check whether the fee is deducted in USDT or another asset and whether you have enough of that asset on the source chain.
- Requote immediately before signing. Quotes, gas estimates, and route availability are volatile.
How the cross-chain design is described
USDT0’s Polygon documentation describes a LayerZero-based system combined with the USDT0 Attestation System. It says transfers use a burn-and-mint model and that the token is backed 1:1. These are statements of the project’s stated design; they are not an independent audit or a guarantee that every operational or smart-contract risk has been eliminated.
Attestation approvals
The documentation names a Core Attestation Set consisting of USDT0, LayerZero, and Canary. It describes a 3-of-3 approval requirement and says, “No single verifier can approve a transfer on its own.” In practical terms, the stated model requires agreement from all three named members before the transfer is attested. Users should distinguish this architecture description from an external assessment of its security, uptime, governance, or recovery procedures.
Burn-and-mint and 1:1 backing
In a burn-and-mint design, the source-side representation is burned and a corresponding representation is minted on the destination side. USDT0 presents this as a mechanism for maintaining a 1:1 relationship across supported networks. The backing claim is issuer documentation; it should not be read as an independent audit finding. If a transfer is delayed, do not assume that a pending transaction can be safely duplicated or manually “re-minted.” Use the route’s support and transaction-status procedures.

What “USDT on Polygon” means for exchanges and wallets
There is no universal exchange or wallet rule that can be inferred from the ticker. One service may label the Polygon asset “USDT,” another may display “USDT0,” and a third may temporarily pause deposits while updating its integration. The sources available for this comparison do not establish current deposit or withdrawal support for any particular exchange.

Before depositing to a service
- Open the service’s deposit page for the exact asset and select Polygon as the network.
- Read whether it names USDT0, Polygon-native USDT, or another contract.
- Compare its displayed contract, if provided, with the current official Polygon contract.
- Check minimum deposit, confirmation requirements, maintenance notices, and whether memo or tag fields are required.
- Send a small test amount when the value and service policy make that practical.
Before withdrawing from a service
- Confirm that the destination wallet or bridge accepts USDT0 on Polygon, not merely a generic USDT ticker.
- Select Polygon explicitly in the withdrawal network menu.
- Review the withdrawal fee and the net amount; an exchange withdrawal fee is separate from a USDT0 protocol fee.
- Paste the destination address only after confirming the chain and contract expectations.
- Save the transaction ID and wait for the destination service to credit the transfer.
If a service lists “Polygon USDT” but does not explain the contract or current deployment, contact that service before transferring. Platform-specific support can change independently of Polygon or USDT0 documentation.
Safety checks that prevent the most expensive mistakes
Do not trust the ticker alone
USDT is a widely reused symbol. A token name can be copied by an unrelated contract, and a wallet can retain a stale token entry. Verify the chain and complete contract address every time you add a custom token or prepare a deposit.
Do not reuse an old bridge instruction
Polygon says the earlier USDT bridge contract was disabled during the 2025 upgrade. An old tutorial that instructs you to interact with that bridge may lead to a failed transaction or funds sent along an unsupported path. Use the current USDT0 route and its live quote.
Keep gas available on both sides
Even when the USDT0 protocol fee is zero for a USDT0 Network route, the source and destination chains can require gas. Hold the relevant gas asset before initiating a transfer, and account for the possibility that a destination transaction or claim step may be needed.

Check the recipient before signing
A bridge can complete successfully while a receiving exchange rejects the token or network. The sender’s successful transaction is not proof of recipient support. Confirm the destination platform’s current instructions first.
Beware of impersonation
Use the official Polygon and USDT0 documentation reached through trusted bookmarks. Treat unsolicited direct messages, replacement contracts, “migration” links, and requests to approve unlimited spending as suspicious. The fact that a page uses the USDT name does not establish that it is operated by the issuer or route provider.

The route is not available
Recheck the exact source token, source chain, destination chain, wallet network, and amount. A route may be unavailable even when the chain appears in a general list. Try again after confirming current service status, but do not switch to an unverified contract or bridge suggested by a third party.
The quote shows a fee you did not expect
Determine whether the route crosses from the USDT0 Network into the Legacy Mesh. The stated 3-bps charge applies to routes involving native USDT on Solana, TON, Tron, or Celo; it does not describe every Polygon transfer. Also separate protocol fees from gas and any exchange withdrawal fee.

The balance arrived under an unexpected symbol
Check the destination contract. If it matches 0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F on Polygon, the display-name difference may be a wallet-label issue. Importing a token manually should be done only from current official information, never from a message or unverified website.
The exchange has not credited the deposit
Confirm that the exchange supports the exact Polygon token and network, then provide its support team with the transaction ID, amount, destination address, and timestamp. Do not send a second deposit as a workaround unless the exchange instructs you to do so.
A practical decision framework
| If your situation is… | Use this approach |
|---|---|
| You are moving from another USDT0 Network chain to Polygon | Select the USDT0 route, verify the Polygon contract and live quote, and budget for chain gas even if no protocol fee is shown. |
| You are moving native USDT from Solana, TON, Tron, or Celo | Check that the route is in the Legacy Mesh and account for the stated 0.03% fee in USDT plus gas. |
| You are depositing to an exchange | Follow the exchange’s current Polygon asset instructions and verify support before sending; do not infer support from the ticker. |
| You found an old article naming a Polygon USDT bridge | Do not use it without confirming that the contract and route are current. Polygon’s 2025 announcement says the former bridge contract was disabled. |
| You see a token named USDT but no contract | Pause and obtain the full contract and network from authoritative, current documentation. |
What the $1.3 billion figure does—and does not—tell you
USDT0’s 2025 Polygon upgrade reporting used a figure of $1.3 billion in USDT liquidity. This is a historical, project-reported figure associated with the migration coverage. It is not a current supply figure, a guarantee of liquidity for your chosen route, or an independently audited measurement. For a transfer decision, the live quote and the destination service’s acceptance matter more than a headline liquidity number.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFinal checklist before you confirm
- Is Polygon definitely the destination or source network you intend to use?
- Does the receiving service explicitly support the exact token and network?
- Does the Polygon token contract match
0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8Fwhen the route delivers USDT0? - Is the route within the USDT0 Network, or does it involve native USDT on the Legacy Mesh?
- Does the live quote show the protocol fee, gas estimate, net amount, and any route limit?
- Do you have enough gas and, where required, USDT to pay the stated fee?
- Have you checked the recipient address and avoided relying on a ticker or an old bridge tutorial?
For Polygon transfers today, the decisive distinction is not the label shown in a wallet. It is whether the route, contract, fee category, and recipient support all match the current USDT0 deployment. Verify those details at the moment of transfer, because contracts, route availability, fees, and platform support can change.
