Antihost offers Linux VPS plans with full root access, unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port and a 14-day free trial.
Uptime Kuma has no vendor-published minimum CPU, RAM, or disk size. Its official installation documentation specifies supported operating systems, a compatible runtime (for non-Docker installs), and persistent storage for /app/data with POSIX file-locking support. A 2025 UptimeKuma.co guide suggests 1 GB of RAM as a starting point, but that is a third-party heuristic rather than an official requirement. For a small personal monitor, a 1 GB Linux VPS can work; choose more memory and faster local SSD storage as monitor count, polling frequency, history retention, and notification traffic increase.
At a glance: what Uptime Kuma actually requires
The most important distinction is between documented prerequisites and sensible VPS sizing. The Uptime Kuma project does not publish a table such as “one core, 512 MB RAM, 10 GB disk.” Instead, its installation pages describe the platform and data-storage conditions needed for a reliable deployment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Resource or prerequisite | What the official documentation establishes | How to interpret it when choosing a VPS |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | No numeric minimum, core count, or clock speed is published. | Prioritize consistent single-core performance. Add CPU capacity when you use many monitors, short intervals, or heavy notification activity. |
| Memory | No official RAM floor is stated. | A 2025 UptimeKuma.co guide calls 1 GB a minimum, but this is a workload-dependent starting heuristic, not a guarantee. |
| Disk capacity | No official minimum capacity is stated. | Capacity depends on database history, logs, backups, and the rest of the operating system. Persistent storage is mandatory. |
| Data path | Container deployments use /app/data. |
Mount that path to a persistent local directory or volume so a container replacement does not remove your configuration and history. |
| Filesystem behavior | POSIX file-lock support is required to protect the SQLite database. | Use local SSD or another storage system that reliably provides POSIX locks; avoid NFS for the SQLite data directory. |
| Network and platform | Docker or a supported Linux/Windows host is documented. | Check the VPS distribution, architecture, firewall, public IP, and restart behavior before installation. |
These points answer the common search questions without pretending that an unverified monitor count or benchmark exists. Your workload, not a single advertised number, determines the final size.
CPU requirements: how many cores does Uptime Kuma need?
No official CPU floor
Uptime Kuma’s official requirements do not specify a minimum number of virtual CPUs, a processor generation, or a clock speed. It is therefore inaccurate to claim that the project requires two cores or a particular processor family. A VPS provider’s “one core” label also does not tell you how much performance you receive if the host oversells CPUs or applies a strict burst policy.

What increases CPU demand
Each monitor performs work at its polling interval and may trigger status processing, database writes, response-time calculations, and notification handling. CPU demand can rise when you add many monitors, shorten their intervals, retain more history, or generate frequent alerts. TLS handshakes, DNS lookups, and checks that invoke external commands can also be more expensive than a simple HTTP request. None of these factors has an official conversion into a guaranteed core count.
Practical CPU selection
For a personal installation, a VPS with one reasonably fast vCPU is a sensible starting choice, not a vendor-mandated minimum. Watch actual load after adding your monitors. If the process is regularly CPU-bound during polling bursts, move to a plan with stronger single-core performance or an additional vCPU. A plan that advertises burstable CPU may look adequate at idle but throttle during sustained checks, so ask the provider how burst credits and contention work.
RAM requirements: is 1 GB enough?
What is known about the 1 GB figure
A 2025 guide published by UptimeKuma.co lists “Minimum RAM: 1 GB” and explains that requirements vary with the number of monitoring probes. That statement is useful as a starting heuristic for a small deployment, but it is not an official Uptime Kuma guarantee. The project’s own installation documentation does not publish a numeric RAM minimum or a monitor-count benchmark.
When a 1 GB VPS can work
A 1 GB Linux VPS can run a modest Uptime Kuma instance when the operating system, Docker (if used), and the application all fit comfortably in memory. Keep sufficient free memory for polling spikes and notification workers rather than assigning every megabyte to the application. Enable swap only as an emergency cushion: swapping can prevent an immediate out-of-memory kill, but it is much slower than RAM and does not replace adequate memory.
When to choose more memory
Select a larger plan when you expect many monitors, very short polling intervals, long history retention, several notification integrations, or other services on the same VPS. Two gigabytes is a practical headroom choice for mixed workloads, but it is advice rather than a published requirement. If the VPS also runs a web server, database, control panel, or backup agent, size memory for those processes first and treat Uptime Kuma as an additional service.

How to validate memory after deployment
- Record baseline memory use immediately after installation, before importing a large monitor list.
- Add monitors in groups and observe usage during normal polling and during an alert burst.
- Check whether the operating system reports reclaimable cache, active swap, or out-of-memory events; a high cache value alone is not evidence of a shortage.
- Increase the VPS plan if memory remains exhausted, swap activity is continuous, or checks fail when notifications fire.
Disk requirements and the SQLite data directory
Capacity is workload-dependent
The official documentation does not state a minimum number of gigabytes. Uptime Kuma stores configuration and monitoring data in its application data directory, and the amount grows with monitor history, event records, logs, and backups. The operating system and Docker image also consume space. Start with more capacity than the current database size so updates and temporary files have room, then measure growth instead of relying on a universal figure.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Mount persistent storage at /app/data
In Docker, the documented layout mounts a host directory or volume at /app/data. Without that mount, replacing the container can remove the database and configuration. A local directory such as /opt/uptime-kuma-data or a named Docker volume is suitable when it resides on persistent VPS storage.
Why POSIX file locks matter
The official Uptime Kuma installation wiki states: "Filesystem support for POSIX file locks is required to avoid SQLite database corruption." SQLite depends on those locks to coordinate reads and writes. The same guidance cautions against NFS for this data because network filesystems may not provide the locking semantics SQLite expects. Use local SSD-backed storage, verify that your provider’s block or network volume offers reliable POSIX locking, and do not place the live database on an unverified NFS mount.
SSD, backups, and free space
SSD latency affects how quickly polling results and status changes are committed, especially when many checks complete together. Capacity and reliability matter more than a large nominal disk: leave free space for database growth, logs, and upgrades. Take backups of the data directory and test restoring them on a separate path. A snapshot is useful for disaster recovery, but it should complement, not replace, an application-aware backup and a copy stored outside the VPS.
Supported installation platforms and runtime versions
Docker deployments
The older v1 documentation uses the image tag louislam/uptime-kuma:1; the v2 revision uses louislam/uptime-kuma:2. Both examples map host port 3001 to container port 3001 and mount persistent storage at /app/data. Choose the tag that matches the major version you intend to run, and do not mix v1 runtime instructions with a v2 image.

A minimal command following that documented layout is:
docker run -d --name uptime-kuma -p 3001:3001 -v uptime-kuma:/app/data louislam/uptime-kuma:2
The named volume keeps the data outside the disposable container. If you prefer a host directory, replace uptime-kuma:/app/data with an absolute path such as /opt/uptime-kuma-data:/app/data and ensure Docker can read and write it. Docker Compose is also documented; define the same image, port mapping, and persistent volume in your compose file.
After the container starts, open port 3001 through the VPS firewall and browse to the server’s address on that port. The official wording says, "Uptime Kuma is now running on http://localhost:3001" after the Docker command completes. On a remote VPS, substitute the server’s reachable hostname or IP and protect the dashboard with HTTPS and an access-control layer appropriate to your environment.
Non-Docker v2 installations
The v2 non-Docker page lists major Linux distributions and supports Windows 10 x64 or Windows Server 2012 R2 x64 and newer. It requires Node.js version 20.4 or later, Git, and pm2. Confirm the operating system architecture and install those prerequisites before cloning or launching Uptime Kuma.

Can Uptime Kuma run on a cheap 1 GB VPS?
Yes, it can be a reasonable choice for a small, dedicated monitoring instance, provided the VPS has dependable CPU time, persistent local storage, and enough free memory after the operating system and container runtime start. The 1 GB figure comes from a third-party 2025 guide, so treat it as a starting point rather than a capacity promise.
Before committing, check that the plan offers:
- Persistent SSD-backed storage with POSIX file locking.
- A supported Linux distribution or a supported Windows edition if you are not using Docker.
- Permission to expose or reverse-proxy the monitoring web port.
- Reliable networking and a restart policy or equivalent recovery mechanism.
- Snapshots or backups that you can restore independently of the running server.
Do not run unrelated memory-heavy services beside Uptime Kuma on a 1 GB plan. If the host starts killing processes, checks miss their intervals, or notifications are delayed during bursts, scale vertically instead of trying to compensate with aggressive swap settings.

1. Inventory the work
List every monitor and its type, polling interval, expected response size, authentication method, and notification channel. Include maintenance checks, certificate checks, and endpoints that may fail simultaneously. This inventory is more useful than a generic “number of websites” estimate because different monitor types consume different amounts of CPU, memory, and I/O.
2. Account for retention and notifications
Decide how long you need response history and incident records. Longer retention increases database writes and disk usage. Notification integrations add work when an outage affects several monitors at once, so test a controlled alert rather than measuring only an idle dashboard.
3. Leave operating headroom
Reserve memory and CPU for the operating system, Docker or pm2, security updates, log rotation, and backup jobs. A VPS that is full at its quietest moment will fail during the exact outage you want to diagnose.

4. Measure and adjust
After deployment, observe CPU load, resident memory, swap activity, disk latency, filesystem utilization, and missed or delayed checks. Scale the resource that is actually constrained: faster CPU for sustained polling load, more RAM for out-of-memory pressure, or faster/larger storage for I/O latency and database growth.
VPS comparison checklist
| Selection axis | Questions to ask | Why it matters to Uptime Kuma |
|---|---|---|
| RAM | How much is guaranteed, and is it shared with a control panel? | Memory pressure can interrupt polling and notifications. |
| CPU | Is the vCPU dedicated, shared, or burstable? What is the sustained policy? | Polling bursts need predictable CPU time. |
| Storage | Is it local SSD, block storage, or NFS? Are POSIX locks supported? | SQLite requires reliable locking and consistent I/O. |
| Backups | Are snapshots available, how often do they run, and can you download a copy? | The data directory contains your monitors, users, and history. |
| Operating system | Is your chosen Linux distribution or Windows edition supported? | Unsupported platforms create runtime and update problems. |
| Network | Can the VPS reach the services you monitor, and can users reach the dashboard? | Monitoring is useless if egress or ingress is unreliable. |
Common requirement-related failures and fixes
SQLite corruption or locked-database errors
Move the data directory from NFS or another filesystem with uncertain locking to local persistent storage that provides POSIX locks. Stop Uptime Kuma before copying the database, restore from a known-good backup, and avoid running two application instances against the same directory.
Container starts but configuration disappears
Inspect the container mounts and confirm that a host directory or named volume is attached to /app/data. Recreating a container without that mount creates a fresh database.
Out-of-memory kills
Check host memory and swap events, stop unrelated services, reduce unnecessary retention, and move to a larger plan if pressure continues. Do not treat swap usage as proof that the application is healthy.
Startup failure after an upgrade
Verify that the Docker major-version tag and, for non-Docker installs, the Node.js and npm versions match the documentation for that release. Review logs before changing the database or deleting the data directory.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Dashboard is unreachable
Confirm that the process is listening on port 3001, the VPS firewall allows the intended path, and any reverse proxy forwards to the correct container port. A healthy local process can still be inaccessible when ingress rules are wrong.
Recommended baseline
For a small, dedicated deployment, begin with a supported Linux VPS, one reliable vCPU, at least 1 GB RAM as a cautious starting point, and persistent local SSD storage mounted at /app/data. Treat that configuration as an initial test, not a guaranteed capacity tier. Move to more RAM, stronger CPU, or larger/faster storage when measurements show pressure or when your monitor inventory and retention policy grow. The non-negotiable requirement is storage that preserves data and supplies POSIX file locks; a larger VPS cannot compensate for an unsafe filesystem.
