To update a Mazda infotainment system, first identify whether you mean Mazda Connect software, navigation maps, or Gracenote music data. For supported Mazda Connect systems, check for software in the vehicle’s Settings → System → Software Update menu. Maps and Gracenote use separate procedures, and some software updates require dealer service.
Identify what you want to update
“Infotainment update” can refer to different data, and the method depends on which one you need:
- Mazda Connect software: The system software, updated online when the vehicle supports it, or through a dealer for some updates.
- Navigation maps: Map data for applicable navigation systems, often handled through an SD card and Mazda Update Toolbox.
- Gracenote: Music information and album art, updated separately using a USB drive.
Adding Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to an older vehicle is a separate retrofit, not a routine software or map update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFind the support route for your Mazda
Start with Mazda’s U.S. Mazda Connect and Navigation support page and select the system and model-year listing that matches your vehicle. The page includes separate routes for Mazda Connect and older navigation systems. Its newer listings include 2025-and-later Mazda3, CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, and MX-5, alongside separate ranges for earlier models.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those listings are for the United States. Confirm the exact model year, trim, head unit, navigation equipment, and market in the applicable owner’s manual; the support-page category alone does not establish compatibility. Do not install a firmware file intended for another model, year, or region. Mazda does not publish one universal firmware version or procedure for every vehicle.
Check for Mazda Connect software updates in the vehicle
For systems covered by Mazda’s Connected Service Manual, use the vehicle display rather than looking for a general firmware file to put on a USB drive.

- With the vehicle on, open Settings → System → Software Update.
- Choose Check for Software Updates. The manual also describes an option to enable automatic update checks.
- If an update is offered, review the prompt and terms, then accept to begin downloading and installing it.
- When installation finishes, switch vehicle power off and restart as instructed on the display or in the manual.
Menu labels and behavior can vary by model. Follow the instructions shown in your vehicle if they differ from these general steps. Mazda says an online update may continue in the background and can resume after vehicle power is switched back on if interrupted. An online check may find no update, and Mazda states that some updates cannot be handled online and must be done by a dealer.
Model-specific wireless updates
The 2026 CX-5 manual describes software delivery through the onboard communication unit and wireless communications, with activation steps involving Park and switching vehicle power off. That procedure is specific to the 2026 CX-5; do not assume it applies to other Mazda models.

Update navigation maps separately
For the SD-card navigation system described in Mazda’s manual, check the map version through the navigation system’s system-information or version-information menus. When an update applies, use Mazda Update Toolbox with the navigation SD card, following the instructions for your vehicle.
- Back up the SD card before updating. Mazda warns that map data may be lost if an update problem occurs.
- Do not store unrelated files on the card or use it in another vehicle.
- Check the matching vehicle listing before buying a replacement card. Mazda’s U.S. support page says some listed newer vehicles have no map updates available and identifies Navi Map SD Card replacement only; this is not a universal update schedule or a card recommendation for every Mazda.
Update Gracenote using a USB drive
Gracenote updates music metadata and album art; they do not update core Mazda Connect software. Mazda’s Gracenote instructions call for a computer and a USB memory device with at least 1 GB of free space. The page lists regional packages and shows a February 17, 2026 posting, so use the package for the correct region.

When to contact a Mazda dealer
Contact a Mazda dealer if the vehicle reports that an update needs service, the applicable procedure is unclear, or you want a phone-integration retrofit. Mazda’s U.S. FAQ describes dealer-installed Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration for applicable Mazda Connect vehicles from model year 2014 onward; that threshold does not mean every vehicle from those years qualifies. Ask the dealer to confirm eligibility for your exact vehicle.
