Unwrapped turns a song into a 3D landscape where its instruments become objects you can explore, move, silence, and run through audio effects. The idea is to make musical questions tangible: “Which sound was the bass? Why did the voice sound far away? What made the chorus hit harder?”
What you do in Unwrapped
Project author Lluis Estape describes Unwrapped as a browser game created for Tripothon S1, a Tripo world-building hackathon. Instead of presenting a song only as a waveform or a set of controls, it places the song’s parts in a 3D environment. You can walk among the instrument objects, activate or silence them, carry them, and change their sound with effects.
Each song produces a different environment. As Estape puts it, “A different song gives a different world.” The project is framed as an exploratory experience, not as a conventional music player or a finished music-production workstation.

In Estape’s account, the process begins with an MP3. Demucs, using its htdemucs_6s model, separates the audio into drums, bass, vocals, guitar, piano, and other. The project then analyzes musical and per-stem features, creates prompts, generates 3D models through Tripo’s API, and assembles a description of the world. The article also names librosa, faster-whisper, and spaCy as parts of the implementation.

That is the creator’s description of the pipeline, not an independently verified technical assessment. The article says the song-to-world asset pipeline runs on Estape’s laptop; it does not describe a public service where anyone can upload a song and generate a world on hosted infrastructure.
How movement changes what you hear
The browser world is built with Three.js, while audio playback uses the Web Audio API. Estape says each stem has its own audio graph and is positioned as an independent sound source. A PannerNode with HRTF spatialization tracks the camera as the listener, so the sound changes as you move and turn.

Headphones are the creator’s recommendation: “If you try it, put headphones on: the spatial audio is half the game.” The source does not report a measured comparison between headphones and speakers, but spatial positioning is central to the described experience.

What the mixing table and other activities add
Connect effects to instruments
Unwrapped includes a mixing table where players can arrange effect pucks and connect them to instruments. The effects described are reverb, tempo-synced delay, a filter, and distortion. This lets you experiment with how a particular part sounds rather than changing the whole song as one undifferentiated track.

Follow missions and explore lyrics
The creator describes a tutorial, star missions, and five landscapes. Mission conditions are said to be checked against the actual mix state, not simply whether a player pressed a particular key. A lyrics mode can turn nouns in sung lyrics into objects in the world.

The article also does not give guidance on rights or permissions for songs submitted to the pipeline. Anyone considering using music should not treat the project description as permission to upload or distribute copyrighted recordings. The source provides no current Tripo pricing or terms either. Estape says model generation is asynchronous and describes using retries, polling, and saving the world description after each generated model to avoid losing paid generation work, but that account does not establish current service costs.
