Several unofficial projects are expanding what some jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles can do, but they are not one feature and do not make Xbox or Windows games broadly compatible with PS5. One project streams Xbox Cloud Gaming, another is a Windows compatibility runtime, and a third emulates original Xbox hardware. Each has different requirements and limitations; the reported Xbox cloud client, for example, was tested by its developer on just one PS5 running firmware 13.60.
What the PS5 projects actually do
The headline’s “message” to Sony is rhetoric, not evidence of a company response. The projects are community-developed software for jailbroken consoles, and they take three distinct technical approaches.
| Project | Approach | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Cloud Gaming client | Streams games from a remote service | The developer describes an unofficial client for jailbroken PS5 and says Game Pass is required. The developer claims 1080p at 60 frames per second, sound, and DualSense input, but reports testing on one console only. Developer post |
| Prospero Win | Windows compatibility runtime | Version 0.2.0 release notes describe work involving 32-bit Windows games, Vulkan, OpenGL through Mesa Zink, and network access. Those notes do not establish that arbitrary Windows games run well. PS5 Homebrew Store listing |
| XPSemu | Emulates original Xbox hardware | An October 3 report described a PS5 port of the open-source xemu emulator. Reported performance figures came from the developer, as relayed by VideoCardz, rather than independent testing. VideoCardz report |
| PS5 Proton | Windows gaming compatibility project | The same report described it as demonstrated, but said there was no public build, repository, compatibility list, or performance data. |
| Xbox 360 emulation | Emulates a later Xbox console | The October 3 report characterized it as an early project without a public build or compatibility list. |
Streaming, compatibility software, and emulation solve different problems. The cloud client relies on a remote service and an internet connection; a Windows runtime attempts to run software through a compatibility layer; an emulator reproduces another console’s hardware and software environment. Success with one approach does not demonstrate that the others work.
What games and performance have been reported?
Xbox Cloud Gaming
The client’s developer says it can stream at 1080p60 with audio and DualSense input. These are developer claims, not independently verified results, and the post discloses a single test console on firmware 13.60. The developer also says Game Pass is required. The report does not establish a broad list of working games or performance across different PS5s and network conditions.

Windows compatibility
Prospero Win’s release notes identify compatibility work and graphics and networking changes, but a feature list is not a game-compatibility guarantee. No general performance results or complete supported-game list are established by the cited listing. The separate PS5 Proton project had no public build or compatibility list in the October 3 report, so it should not be treated as software readers can install from that evidence.
Original Xbox emulation
VideoCardz relayed developer-provided figures for XPSemu: Halo 2 was reported at 30 FPS stock and 36–50 FPS with a 60 FPS patch, while Forza Motorsport was reported at 15–21 FPS during racing. These are not independent benchmark results, and the reported examples do not establish consistent performance across games.

Xbox 360 emulation is a separate, earlier effort. The cited October 3 report described no public build or compatibility list, so it does not support a claim that PS5 owners can currently play Xbox 360 games through a generally available emulator.

These projects target jailbroken PS5 consoles, not ordinary consoles with current system software. Ars Technica reported that the Relapse exploit supports firmware up to 13.6; Sony’s 14.00.00 firmware had been released in mid-September 2026. That makes firmware version a decisive condition, and there is no basis here to say that an arbitrary or up-to-date PS5 can be jailbroken for these projects. Ars Technica’s report on PS5 exploits

- 🚀 Storage: Custom 825GB SSD
- 🚀 RAM: 16GB GDDR6

Check the exact firmware requirement for the exploit and homebrew release before drawing conclusions about compatibility. The reported cloud-client test on firmware 13.60 does not prove it works on other versions, and the existence of a project does not mean it supports every console that can be jailbroken.
How this differs from Sony’s official cloud streaming
Sony separately offers cloud streaming for select PS5 games on PlayStation Portal to PlayStation Plus Premium members. That is an official Sony service, distinct from the community-built Xbox Cloud Gaming client, which the developer says requires Game Pass. Sony’s Portal announcement describes the official offering: PlayStation Blog.

- Maximize your play sessions with near-instant load times for installed PS5 games.
- 825GB SSD allows ultra-fast load times, while 3-D audio output produces crisp acoustics.
- Explore uncharted virtual territories and slay dragons with this sleek Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console.
Has Sony responded to these projects?
The cited reporting does not establish a specific Sony response to the Xbox cloud client, Prospero Win, XPSemu, or the other projects. The “message” framing should therefore be understood as commentary about what modders are attempting, not as a confirmed exchange between developers and Sony.
