Reports say police recovered cash in two separate operations in 2026: around ₹15 lakh in the Tondemarka forests in March and around ₹5 lakh in the Marmakonari area of Murargaon in the first week of April. Two unnamed DSP-rank officers associated with the recovery operations are being scrutinised. Hindustan Times reported that their names would not be disclosed while the investigation continued. What is known about the inquiry?
Hindustan Times reported that an internal inquiry and scrutiny of people involved had begun, and that the two officers were transferred from Kanker in mid-June. It said the Kanker SP’s preliminary inquiry indicated possible involvement and that investigators were reviewing operational records, seizure documents and statements. The same report said investigators were examining whether additional Maoist dumps or materials had been left out of records; that possibility has not been established.
The Times of India reported that Kanker SP Nikhil Kumar Rakhecha said preliminary inquiries into both recoveries were complete and a report had been sent to higher authorities in August. It also said no final finding against the officers had been reached and the allegation remained under investigation. The two accounts describe inquiry progress somewhat differently, but both report a preliminary or inquiry report reaching senior officials—not a final determination.
