Affiliate is Twitch’s entry-level monetization status; Partner is a selective program for established channels. Affiliates qualify through fixed Path to Affiliate targets. Partners must complete Path to Partner, demonstrate sustained 75-average-viewer performance, and pass Twitch’s application review. Both can earn from subscriptions, Bits, and ads, but their subscription terms, controls, support, and payout economics differ.
The practical distinction is not simply “small creator versus large creator.” Affiliate is a predictable eligibility milestone, while Partner is an application evaluated in context. A Partner is not guaranteed a higher standard subscription percentage: Twitch publishes a 50/50 standard split for Affiliates and does not publish one universal Partner percentage outside the Plus Program. Qualifying creators in either status can receive 60/40 or 70/30 net subscription revenue through that program.
Affiliate and Partner at a glance

“Partner” therefore describes access and selectivity as much as it describes revenue. Your actual monthly payment depends on paid subscriptions, Bits, advertising, regional pricing, taxes, processing costs, currency conversion, and the payment method you choose.

Affiliate eligibility: the fixed entry route
Twitch’s Affiliate path has four measurable achievements. All four must be completed before Twitch sends an invitation; completing three does not create Affiliate status.
The four Path to Affiliate achievements
- 25 followers. This is a total follower count, not a monthly acquisition target.
- Four hours streamed. The requirement measures live-streaming time.
- Four different stream days. Streaming on four separate calendar days matters; one long session does not replace the day requirement.
- At least a three-average-viewer level over any four stream days in the last 30 days. Twitch evaluates the average-viewer requirement over four qualifying stream days within that rolling period.
When all four achievements are complete, Twitch can issue the Affiliate invitation. The invitation and onboarding process are separate from receiving money: you still need to complete the required agreement, tax information, and payout setup before Twitch can send earnings.
What the Affiliate threshold does—and does not—mean
The three-viewer figure is an average-viewer level, not three unique people who each watch once. Twitch’s published wording describes the qualifying stream-day average; it does not promise that a channel will retain that average after becoming an Affiliate. Continue monitoring the rolling achievement panel if you are close to qualifying, because the four-day window is limited to the last 30 days.
Partner eligibility: sustained performance plus review
Partner is not an automatic promotion from Affiliate. The route begins with Path to Partner and then requires an application that Twitch reviews.
Path to Partner performance requirement
For each of the two consecutive months before applying, Twitch says you need at least six individual streams that meet a 75-average-viewer requirement over a 30-day period. In practical terms, a creator must show repeatable audience performance rather than one unusually large broadcast. Track the qualifying streams and the dates yourself so you can verify that both months meet the requirement before submitting an application.

Twitch says front-page promotions and embeds do not count toward this calculation. Traffic that appears because a stream was promoted on Twitch’s front page, or because the video was embedded elsewhere, should not be treated as qualifying evidence for the 75-average-viewer metric.
Application review is selective
Meeting the Path to Partner target makes you eligible to apply; it does not guarantee acceptance. Twitch evaluates applications, and it does not publish a universal Partner acceptance rate. The company also says Partner Manager eligibility is invitation-only and based on criteria that may change. A creator can therefore satisfy the visible metrics and still be declined.
How to prepare an application
- Confirm that both consecutive months satisfy the six-stream and 75-average-viewer conditions without relying on excluded front-page or embedded traffic.
- Keep the channel’s schedule, content category, moderation practices, and audience activity consistent enough for Twitch to evaluate an established operation.
- Use Twitch’s application flow after the dashboard indicates that Path to Partner is complete; do not treat an invitation to Affiliate as an automatic Partner recommendation.
- Save your performance records and note any unusual traffic sources so you can explain the results accurately if Twitch asks for context.
Subscription revenue: 50/50 is not the whole Partner comparison
Standard Affiliate split
Twitch states: “The standard subscription revenue split for Affiliates is 50/50 between you and Twitch.” The split is applied after applicable deductions, so the amount displayed as subscription revenue is not necessarily the amount deposited in your bank account.
Partner subscription terms
Twitch does not publish one guaranteed Partner subscription percentage that applies to every Partner. A Partner’s agreement and any qualifying program determine the applicable share. Do not assume that obtaining Partner status automatically changes every subscription to a better percentage than an Affiliate receives.
The Plus Program applies to both statuses

These are net subscription revenue shares, not a promise that the creator receives 60% or 70% of the subscriber’s headline price. Taxes, payment processing, regional pricing, currency conversion, refunds, and other deductions can reduce the amount on which the share is calculated or the final amount paid.
Bits and Bits-enabled Extensions
Bits used for Cheers
Both Affiliates and Partners can monetize Bits. Twitch’s Partner overview states that a Partner receives one US cent per Bit used to Cheer for that Partner. Twitch’s Cheering documentation also identifies Affiliates as eligible to receive revenue from Bits, but the public materials do not establish a separate, universal Affiliate rate in the same statement. Use the rate shown in your current agreement and dashboard for your own status.
Bits in Extensions
Eligible Affiliates and Partners ordinarily receive 80% of one US cent per Bit used in a Bits-enabled Extension, with the remaining 20% going to the Extension developer. This is a different transaction from a standard Cheer, so a creator should not apply the Extension percentage to all Bits activity.
Advertising: shared monetization, broader Partner controls
Ads are available to both Affiliates and Partners once the channel meets Twitch’s monetization eligibility requirements. Both statuses can therefore earn an advertising share; Partner status is not required simply to run ads.
Partners receive broader ad controls. Twitch says Partners can determine mid-roll ad length and frequency through the dashboard. These controls let a Partner choose how often interruptions occur and how long a mid-roll lasts, subject to the settings Twitch exposes. The Affiliate feature set includes ad monetization but does not provide the same published Partner-level control set.

Ad income varies with viewer geography, inventory, seasonality, ad demand, device, and whether viewers are served an ad. Twitch’s public comparison does not provide a universal per-viewer or per-ad rate, so a channel’s ad revenue cannot be calculated from its average viewers alone.
Payout thresholds and timing
Net-15 schedule
Twitch documents Net-15 timing for Affiliates and Partners. Revenue becomes eligible after the earning month closes, and payment is generally initiated around the 15th of the following month. For example, eligible earnings accumulated during one calendar month are processed after that month ends rather than being paid immediately after each stream.

If your payable balance is below the threshold for the method on file, Twitch rolls it into the next month instead of issuing a smaller payment. The threshold is a balance requirement, not a fee or a minimum monthly subscription count.
How long a payment takes after submission
Twitch says payouts typically take three to five business days after submission. Weekends, bank holidays, international banking rails, verification, and the selected method can make the elapsed calendar time longer. Net-15 is the initiation schedule; it is not a guarantee that funds will be visible in your account on the fifteenth.

Affiliate and Partner payout fees
Twitch’s feature comparison indicates payout fees for Affiliates and that Twitch covers fees for Partners. Because treatment can depend on the payment method and the current agreement, check the payout section of your dashboard and agreement before treating this as a fixed fee promise. Wire transfers can still have a higher minimum because of transfer costs even when a particular fee is covered.

Why the deposited amount differs from the dashboard total
Twitch reports payouts in US dollars, but the amount you ultimately receive can be lower than a gross subscription, Bits, or ad total. Twitch identifies several possible deductions and adjustments:
- Taxes and withholding: required tax documentation and applicable withholding can reduce the payment.
- Payment processing: card, payment-provider, and transaction costs may be deducted before the creator’s share is calculated or paid.
- Bank charges: the receiving bank or transfer rail can impose fees, particularly for international payments.
- Currency conversion: a local-currency deposit depends on the exchange rate and conversion charges used by the payment path.
- Regional subscription pricing: a subscriber’s local price is not necessarily the US-dollar price, so subscriber count alone cannot predict revenue.
- Other account adjustments: refunds, reversals, and agreement-specific deductions can affect the final payable balance.
For planning, use the payable balance and transaction details in the Twitch dashboard rather than multiplying subscriber count by a headline subscription price. Keep your tax and payment information current so a completed threshold does not turn into a delayed payment.
Tools, support, and practical advantages of Partner status
The main non-financial difference is access. Twitch describes Partners as receiving broader tools, support, and feature access than Affiliates. The exact feature list can change, so read the current comparison and agreement attached to your account.

- Creator Sponsorship Profile and StreamElements Sponsorships, which Twitch lists in its monetization feature matrix for both Affiliates and Partners.
What Partner adds
- More extensive support and Partner-oriented tools.
- Additional advertising controls, including mid-roll length and frequency settings in the dashboard.
- Access to Partner features that Twitch may introduce or restrict under changing criteria.
These benefits matter most to a channel that already has reliable viewership and needs operational control. They do not automatically compensate for weak retention, low subscription conversion, or high payment deductions.
Which status should a creator pursue?
Choose Affiliate as the immediate milestone when
- You are building your first consistent audience and can realistically reach 25 followers, four hours, four stream days, and the three-average-viewer requirement.
- You want access to subscriptions, Bits, and ads without waiting for selective review.
- You need a predictable entry checklist rather than a performance-based application.
Work toward Partner when
- You can sustain at least six qualifying streams and a 75-average-viewer level in each of two consecutive months.
- Your channel benefits from ad scheduling controls, broader support, and Partner feature access.
- You understand that meeting the metrics only permits an application and does not guarantee approval.
Do not choose solely on the split
The standard Affiliate split is clearly published, while Partner economics vary by agreement and program. A qualifying Affiliate can receive a 60/40 or 70/30 Plus share, and the same Plus levels can apply to a Partner. Compare the complete result—subscriptions after deductions, Bits, ads, payment fees, and audience stability—rather than assuming the Partner label alone determines income.
A step-by-step path from first stream to payout
- Track the Affiliate metrics in the dashboard. Monitor followers, hours, separate stream days, and the rolling four-day average-viewer requirement.
- Complete all four achievements. Twitch requires every Affiliate metric before issuing the invitation.
- Finish onboarding. Accept the applicable agreement and submit tax and payout information; monetization does not send funds until payment setup is complete.
- Build a repeatable schedule. If Partner is the goal, record qualifying stream dates and audience averages rather than relying on a single high-performing broadcast.
- Verify the two-month Partner pattern. Before applying, confirm six qualifying streams and the 75-average-viewer requirement in each of the two consecutive months, excluding front-page promotions and embeds from your calculation.
- Apply through Twitch. Treat the application as a review request, not an automatic upgrade.
- Check the Plus Program and dashboard terms. If your Plus Points meet a level for three consecutive months, review the resulting 60/40 or 70/30 term and its 12-month qualification period.
- Choose a payout method with its threshold in mind. Most methods require $50; wire transfer requires $100. Keep account and tax details current.
- Reconcile each payment. Compare the payable balance with the amount received after Net-15 processing and the expected three-to-five-business-day transfer window.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Assuming Affiliate is automatic at 25 followers: all four achievements are required, including the stream-day and average-viewer conditions.
- Counting one viral stream toward Partner: the published target covers six qualifying streams in each of two consecutive months.
- Including excluded traffic: front-page promotions and embeds do not count toward the Partner calculation.
- Assuming Partner guarantees 70/30: 70/30 is a Plus Program Level 2 outcome after 300 Plus Points for three consecutive months, not a universal Partner rate.
- Budgeting from gross prices: taxes, processing, bank fees, conversion, regional pricing, and other deductions affect the payable amount.
- Expecting payment on the fifteenth: Net-15 is generally when Twitch initiates payment; the transfer can take three to five business days and longer across weekends or holidays.
- Ignoring the threshold: a balance below the method’s minimum rolls forward rather than being paid immediately.
- Treating public rules as permanent: Twitch can change thresholds, feature availability, Partner criteria, Plus terms, and payment rules; verify the current dashboard and agreement before making financial plans.
Bottom line
Affiliate is the attainable first monetization tier: complete the four fixed metrics and you can access subscriptions, Bits, and ads after onboarding. Partner requires sustained 75-average-viewer performance across two qualifying months and a selective Twitch review. Both statuses can earn from the same core monetization categories, and both can qualify for the Plus Program’s 60/40 or 70/30 net subscription shares. Payouts for both are generally Net-15, with a $50 minimum for most methods and $100 for wire transfers. The meaningful Partner advantages are broader tools, support, and ad controls—not an automatic revenue multiplier.
