Many TV mounts include screws, but the contents depend on the exact model. A package may include screws for attaching brackets to the TV, fasteners for attaching the mount to the wall, both, or hardware intended for only certain installations. Check the mount’s parts list and manual alongside your TV’s mounting instructions before you start.
Which screws does a TV mount include?
There are two separate fastening jobs, and the hardware is not interchangeable:
- TV-side screws attach the mounting brackets to the threaded holes on the back of the television. Their diameter and length must match the TV and the mount’s instructions.
- Wall-side fasteners secure the mount’s wall plate to the wall. The required type depends on the mount instructions and the wall construction.
A mount’s included-parts list is the best guide to what comes in that particular box. Even when it includes several screw sizes, you usually use only the size that fits your TV. ECHOGEAR’s EGLL manual, for example, lists alternatives and notes that not all included hardware will be used. Do not assume the same assortment comes with every model or brand.

Use the instructions for both your television and mount to determine the correct screw diameter and length. Do not select screws by appearance or assume that a size listed for one TV or mount applies to yours. The EGLL manual shows M4, M6, and M8 alternatives and states, “Only one screw size fits your TV.”

Check length as well as diameter
A screw that is too short may not hold securely; one that is too long can damage the television. The EGLL manual warns: “Too short will not hold your TV. Too long will damage your TV.” Follow the specified screw, washer, spacer, and bracket arrangement rather than trying a longer screw to make up for a gap.
Account for the shape of the TV back
A flat back may allow the bracket to sit flush, while a rounded or recessed back—or interference from cables—may call for spacers specified in the manual. Use only the arrangement the TV and mount instructions call for; adding spacers changes how far the screw reaches into the TV.

Manufacturer listings illustrate why the exact model matters. These are examples of ECHOGEAR product contents, not a standard package specification for TV mounts generally.

How to check screw fit safely
- Find the TV model number. Look up its official mounting instructions, then consult the mount manual as well.
- Identify the required TV-side screw diameter and length. Use the combination specified for those products, including the required washer or spacer.
- Check the back of the TV. Determine whether it is flat, rounded, recessed, or obstructed by cables, and follow the manual’s spacer guidance.
- Verify the assembly before tightening. The screw must engage as instructed without bottoming out or extending too far into the TV. Stop if it resists or appears too long; never force it.
- Choose wall fasteners separately. Follow the mount’s instructions for the wall type and specified wall-side hardware. TV-side screws do not attach the wall plate to the wall.
If hardware is missing, damaged, or inconsistent with the manuals, pause and ask the TV or mount manufacturer for model-specific replacement parts.
What if your mount is missing screws?
First compare the box contents with the exact model’s parts list; some kits contain alternatives that will not all be used. If a required piece is absent or damaged, contact the mount manufacturer or seller for the correct replacement rather than guessing at a substitute. For missing TV-side screws, confirm the required size with the television’s mounting instructions too. A mixed hardware kit is not a substitute for checking fit against both manuals.

What to compare when choosing a mount
If you are shopping for a mount, compare its supported VESA pattern and weight rating with your TV, confirm the specified wall hardware suits your wall installation, and choose the movement style you want: fixed, tilting, or full-motion. Also check the actual included TV screw sizes rather than assuming a package will have the right ones. Specifications differ by model: ECHOGEAR lists the EGMF2 for patterns from 100 × 100 through 400 × 400 in specified combinations with a 60 lb rating, while the EGLL4 lists 100 × 100 to 600 × 400 and a 150 lb rating. Those figures apply to those models only; consult the EGMF2 listing and EGLL4 listing for their specifications.
