To make Truffle Oil in Stardew Valley, reach Farming level 8, craft an Oil Maker with 50 Slime, 20 Hardwood, and one Gold Bar, then process one Truffle for six in-game hours. The finished oil sells for 1,065g, or 1,491g with the Artisan profession. Processing is not automatically the best choice: an iridium-quality Truffle can be worth more when sold directly if you do not have Artisan.
The quick recipe
Truffle Oil is an Artisan Good made by the Oil Maker. The machine’s in-game purpose is described as making “gourmet truffle oil,” and the output is also described as a gourmet cooking ingredient. You need a Truffle, an Oil Maker, and enough time for the machine to finish.

How to craft and use the Oil Maker
1. Reach Farming level 8
The recipe becomes available at Farming level 8. If the Oil Maker does not appear in your crafting menu, check your Farming level first. Having Truffles or the raw materials does not substitute for the level requirement.
2. Gather the recipe materials
Prepare 50 Slime, 20 Hardwood, and one Gold Bar. The recipe is for the machine itself, not for each bottle of oil. Once you have crafted an Oil Maker, you can use that equipment for successive batches as long as you supply Truffles.
3. Craft the machine
Open the crafting menu after the level-eight unlock and select the Oil Maker. Confirm that all three material counts are available. Crafting consumes the listed materials and creates the equipment.
4. Load a Truffle
Interact with the Oil Maker and place one Truffle into it. The input is a Truffle, not an already processed item. Each completed cycle produces one bottle of Truffle Oil.
5. Allow six in-game hours
The processing cycle takes six in-game hours. Plan around that interval rather than expecting an immediate result. When the cycle is complete, interact with the machine again to collect the oil.
The six-hour figure is the listed game duration. It does not mean six hours in the real world, and it should not be treated as a guaranteed real-time conversion across different play speeds or platforms.
Should you process every Truffle?
No. The correct choice depends on the Truffle’s quality, whether you have Artisan, and what you need the item for. Truffle Oil has a listed base sale price of 1,065g. With the Artisan profession, its listed sale price is 1,491g. The finished oil does not have a listed quality level, so processing removes the quality distinction that made the original Truffle more or less valuable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe central quality trade-off
An iridium-quality Truffle can sell for more directly than one bottle of Truffle Oil when you do not have Artisan. That makes an unconditional “always process” rule misleading. Lower-quality Truffles may be better candidates for processing, while an iridium Truffle deserves an explicit comparison before you load the machine.
The practical test is simple: compare the direct sale value of the specific Truffle in your inventory with the sale value of the oil you would receive. Use 1,065g as the base oil value, or 1,491g if your farmer has Artisan. If the Truffle’s direct value is higher, sell it raw; if the oil value is higher, process it. If you need the oil for a recipe, bundle, quest, or clothing project, its utility may matter more than either sale price.
How Artisan changes the decision
Artisan increases the listed Truffle Oil value from 1,065g to 1,491g. That higher output value makes processing more attractive, especially when the input Truffle is not at the highest quality. Without Artisan, the direct value of a high-quality Truffle is more likely to beat the machine output.

- You’ve inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life.
- Now with Multiplayer! Invite 1-3 players to join you in the valley! Players can work together to build a thriving farm, share resources, and build relationships with townspeople or each other.
- New Single Player Content! Including the new Winter Market Festival, more collectibles, added character cut-scenes and even hats for your horse!
Artisan applies to the finished Truffle Oil sale value. It does not change the Oil Maker recipe, the six-hour processing duration, or the number of Truffles consumed per batch.

A Truffle placed in an Oil Maker is unavailable for direct sale during the six-hour cycle. If you have only one machine and several Truffles, processing them all creates a queue of decisions and delays the cash you could receive from selling them immediately. If you are saving for a time-sensitive purchase or need funds before the day ends, direct sale may be preferable even when the eventual oil value is higher.
Use a purpose-first rule
- Need a Pantry Artisan Bundle item? Reserve or process at least one Truffle for Truffle Oil rather than selling every raw Truffle.
- Need a Rain Totem? Keep one bottle available if you plan to craft the totem.
- Need the Mayor Lewis request? Keep a bottle available around Summer 21 of Year 2 so the mailed request can be completed.
- Need clothing or dye? Process enough for tailoring, regardless of whether that batch maximizes sale value.
- Purely optimizing gold? Compare the exact Truffle quality and your Artisan status before each batch.
Truffle Oil uses beyond selling
Pantry Artisan Bundle
Truffle Oil is one of the options for the Pantry’s Artisan Bundle. If the bundle is unfinished, its bundle value can exceed the benefit of selling a single bottle immediately. Plan the batch around the bundle requirement instead of waiting for a better price that the game does not provide.
Rain Totem crafting
Truffle Oil is an ingredient in the Rain Totem recipe. The recipe is learned at Foraging level 9 and also requires one Hardwood and five Pine Tar. If you are preparing a Rain Totem, the oil is only one part of the material checklist; gather the other ingredients before committing the bottle to another use.
Tailoring and dye
In tailoring, Truffle Oil can produce the dyeable Dark Bandana Shirt. It can also be used as a yellow dye. These are separate uses from selling the item, so reserve a bottle if your goal is clothing customization rather than farm income.

Mayor Lewis’s mailed request
Mayor Lewis can request Truffle Oil by mail on Summer 21 of Year 2. Completing that request rewards 750g and one friendship heart. Because the request has a specific date and year, storing a bottle ahead of time is safer than starting a six-hour machine cycle after the letter arrives.
Other ways to obtain Truffle Oil
Crafting with an Oil Maker is the standard production method, but it is not the only possible source in the 1.6-era item references.
Truffle Crab drops
Since version 1.6, Truffle Oil can drop from Truffle Crabs. This is an alternate acquisition route, not a replacement for the Farming level 8 recipe when you want a predictable supply.
Desert Festival purchase
During the Desert Festival, Marnie’s shop can sell Truffle Oil for 50 Calico Eggs. This is a festival-specific purchase price in the game, not a universal shop price or a real-world currency value. It gives you another way to obtain a bottle when you have festival currency but do not want to spend a Truffle in an Oil Maker.

Practical decision examples
Example: no Artisan and an iridium Truffle
You have no Artisan profession and an iridium-quality Truffle. The listed oil output would be 1,065g, but the raw Truffle’s direct value can be higher at that quality. Sell the Truffle directly unless you need the oil for a bundle, quest, Rain Totem, tailoring, or another immediate purpose.
Best Value
Example: Artisan and a lower-quality Truffle
With Artisan, the listed output is 1,491g. A lower-quality Truffle is a stronger candidate for processing because its direct sale value is less likely to exceed the enhanced oil value. Load the machine when the six-hour delay fits your schedule.
Example: bundle deadline
If the Pantry Artisan Bundle is the goal, the economic comparison is secondary. Use one Truffle in the Oil Maker, collect the finished bottle, and submit it to the bundle. Keeping every Truffle raw postpones completion and does not help if the bundle is the reason you acquired the item.
Example: Summer 21 of Year 2
If you are approaching Summer 21 in Year 2, keep one bottle in storage for the possible Mayor Lewis request. A six-hour processing cycle may still fit in the day, but preparing the bottle earlier avoids having to choose between a quest reward and a same-day sale.

The Oil Maker recipe is missing
- Verify that Farming is level 8; this is the unlock condition.
- Check that you are looking in the crafting menu, not a cooking interface.
- Confirm that you are using the Oil Maker recipe rather than searching for a recipe named Truffle Oil.
The machine will not start
- Make sure the input is one Truffle. Other farm products are not the documented input for this item.
- Check that the machine is not still processing an earlier batch.
- Allow the full six in-game hours to pass before expecting the finished bottle.
The expected sale value is different
- Check whether Artisan is active on the farmer who will sell the item; the listed values are 1,065g without the profession and 1,491g with it.
- Do not expect a quality star on the finished oil. A quality level is not listed for Truffle Oil, so compare the raw Truffle’s quality before processing.
- Remember that these are in-game sale values, not prices adjusted for real-world inflation or platform currency.
You cannot find a bottle for a quest or bundle
Check storage first, then inspect active mail requests and bundle requirements. If you have no bottle, craft one with the Oil Maker or use one of the alternate 1.6-era routes: a Truffle Crab drop or the Desert Festival purchase for 50 Calico Eggs.
A repeatable farm workflow
- Sort your Truffles by quality. Keep iridium-quality Truffles separate so you can make an informed direct-sale comparison.
- Set aside purpose-driven stock. Reserve bottles or raw inputs for the Pantry Artisan Bundle, Rain Totems, tailoring, and the Summer 21 Year 2 request.
- Check your profession. Record whether Artisan is active before calculating the output value.
- Choose the batch. Process the Truffles whose oil value beats their direct value, or process any Truffle required for a specific objective.
- Start the six-hour cycle. Load one Truffle and plan your next collection around the in-game timer.
- Recheck the output’s purpose. Sell the bottle only after confirming that no bundle, recipe, quest, or tailoring project needs it.
This workflow prevents the two most common mistakes: converting a high-value iridium Truffle without checking the numbers, and selling the only bottle needed for progression.
Version and platform notes
The item and equipment references used here include version history through Stardew Valley 1.6, including the Truffle Crab and Desert Festival acquisition routes. Exact platform parity and the latest build number were not independently verified, so this guide does not claim that every platform exposes identical timing, menus, or festival behavior. If a label or route differs in your installation, check the version information shown by your game and treat the Oil Maker recipe, listed values, and alternate routes as version-dependent game data.
