Indian startup Equal AI is seeking a new growth round at a target valuation of $750 million to $1 billion, according to Business Today reporting in 2026. The $1 billion figure is an upper-end goal, not a completed financing valuation. Investor interest is reported to be preliminary, and the final valuation depends on whether the company reaches operating milestones, including a target of 15 million monthly active users by March.
What Equal AI is raising and why the $1 billion figure is conditional
Equal AI, founded by Keshav Reddy in 2022, is seeking fresh capital at a valuation range of $750 million to $1 billion. The company has not disclosed how much money it wants to raise in this round, and no final valuation has been announced.
Business Today reported that the valuation is linked to milestones the company aims to hit by March. The most prominent target is 15 million monthly active users, described as roughly four times the user base reported after its launch. This makes the headline valuation a forward-looking target rather than evidence that Equal AI has already secured a $1 billion financing.
Equal AI’s previous funding
Equal AI raised $30 million in Series B funding in June 2026, in a round led by Prosus Ventures and Tomales Bay Capital. TechCrunch reported that the Series B brought the company’s total funding to more than $42 million.

The Series B was divided into three tranches. Each tranche had a different valuation tied to milestones, but Equal AI did not disclose the valuation assigned to any individual tranche. That structure shows why a single headline number can be misleading: the company’s financing terms can change as it reaches or misses specific operating goals.
What Equal AI’s call assistant does
Equal AI’s Android app is designed to handle unknown calls rather than simply label them. When a call arrives, the assistant can screen it, ask the caller why they are calling, and show the user the caller’s stated reason. The user can then decide whether to answer or respond through the assistant.

The company began as a data-sharing business serving financial-services and KYC-verification use cases. It later moved toward a consumer product. Reddy told TechCrunch: “We always wanted to be a customer-facing company, and with Equal AI, the first use case we launched was a call assistant because we realized users get a ton of calls for financial services or job openings.”
How many users Equal AI has
Equal AI said its app had more than 1 million monthly active users and over 300,000 daily active users after launching in the prior year, figures reported by TechCrunch in 2026. The company also said it supports more than 10 languages.
That language coverage is significant in India, where callers frequently switch among regional languages, English and code-mixed speech during the same conversation. It also explains why user growth is a central condition of the proposed valuation: the company must demonstrate that an AI conversation layer can work at national scale, not just in a narrow English-speaking audience.

Is Equal AI the new Truecaller?
Equal AI competes for some of the same unknown-call use cases as Truecaller, but the products are not identical. Truecaller is primarily associated with identifying callers and filtering spam. Equal AI’s stated distinction is to determine why a caller is contacting the user, communicate with that caller and carry out limited actions.

Google and Apple also offer call-screening features, making the competitive question broader than a two-company comparison. India’s proposed Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) system is different again: it would use telecom-network data to display a caller’s registered name, rather than having an app conduct a conversation to establish intent.
Mint reported that India accounted for about two-thirds of Truecaller’s users and more than 75% of its 2023 revenue. That concentration highlights the size of the Indian market Equal AI is pursuing, while also showing why the company must offer more than a familiar caller-ID label to win users from established services.

What Equal AI’s target means for users
If the product works as described, users could spend less time answering delivery, financial-service, recruitment and other routine calls. The assistant’s ability to return a custom message or provide instructions could be useful when a user is unavailable.
There are trade-offs. Call recordings, transcripts and summaries create additional privacy and consent questions. Users should check what the app records, where recordings are stored, how long they are retained and whether callers are notified, especially when calls involve financial, employment or identity information. The reported product description does not establish those policies in detail.
Availability is another limitation. The reported product is an Android app. A future iOS release and a paid tier have been discussed as plans, but neither is a completed launch according to the available 2026 reporting.
