Trezor has removed CryptoBilis from its reseller list and is cutting back its wider authorized-reseller network after Ledger reported tampered hardware wallets sold through that reseller. Trezor says it has no evidence that any Trezor device was compromised; the move is a precaution, not an announcement of a Trezor breach. Partners affected by the broader change are reportedly due to lose authorization on January 1, 2027.
What Trezor is changing
The Block reported on October 13, 2026, that Trezor removed CryptoBilis from its reseller list while also reducing the number of resellers it works with. The report, citing a partner letter and comments from Trezor Chief Commercial Officer Danny Sanders, says affected partners will receive no new Trezor stock and may sell inventory already in their possession until January 1, 2027. Their authorization ends on that date.
The available reporting does not identify every reseller affected or state how many partners will be removed. CryptoBilis is therefore not necessarily the only reseller losing authorization. Trezor’s broader network reduction and the specific removal of CryptoBilis should be treated as related but distinct parts of the response.

Trezor’s stated reason
Sanders said, “There is not a single piece of evidence that Trezor devices have been compromised.” He characterized the reseller action as “a preventive step, taken out of an abundance of caution.” Those comments were relayed by The Block from the partner communication; the underlying letter was not published in the available reporting.

Trezor has separately said it had no reports of tampered Trezor devices sold by CryptoBilis. That is a report about known cases, not a guarantee that every historical transaction through a reseller was risk-free. Buyers should still verify a seller’s current authorization and the device’s condition.
What happened to Ledger devices sold through CryptoBilis
The incident that prompted the scrutiny concerns Ledger hardware wallets, not a reported Trezor compromise. The Block reported that Ledger confirmed an unauthorized implant in a device sold through CryptoBilis. According to Ledger’s account as reported, the implant captured a customer’s recovery phrase during setup and transmitted it over LTE.

Ledger also reportedly said that confirmed cases involved devices sold through CryptoBilis, while its own systems and direct sales channels were unaffected. These technical and scope statements are attributed to Ledger through news coverage; the company’s primary technical publication was not available for this report.
Reported losses remain estimates
CoinMarketCap Academy reported Bitquery’s estimate that about $102 million was taken from 324 wallets across six blockchains. The same report said Tether froze $10 million in USDT connected with the incident. These are attributed estimates and response figures, not a final loss total established by Ledger, a regulator or a court. Wallet counts and dollar values can change as investigators identify additional transactions or revise attribution.

Was a Trezor wallet compromised?
No reported source establishes a compromised Trezor wallet in this episode. Trezor’s public position, as relayed by The Block, is that it has no evidence of compromised Trezor devices and no reports of tampering involving CryptoBilis-supplied Trezor products.
That conclusion should not be expanded into a claim that all reseller distribution is inherently safe. A hardware wallet’s security depends on the device, packaging, supply chain, setup process and protection of the recovery phrase. Trezor’s action indicates that it is tightening distribution controls after a separate manufacturer’s reseller-linked incident.

How to buy a hardware wallet more safely
- Check the manufacturer’s current reseller list. Use the list published on the manufacturer’s official website immediately before ordering. Authorization can change, and an old search result may be out of date.
- Match the legal seller identity. Confirm that the company named at checkout, on the invoice and on the authorized list is the same entity. A marketplace page can display a familiar product while the actual seller is a different business.
- Inspect packaging and device condition. Do not use a device with broken seals, unexplained modifications, unexpected accessories or signs that it was previously initialized.
- Initialize it yourself. Generate a new recovery phrase on the device during setup. Never use a phrase supplied on a card, in a box or by a seller, and never type a recovery phrase into a website or send it to support.
- Confirm software and authenticity checks. Follow the manufacturer’s official setup and verification procedure, and install firmware only through the official application or documented channel.
- Keep purchase records. Save the receipt, seller name and serial information so that support can investigate provenance if a problem appears.
What buyers should watch before January 1, 2027
Until the reported deadline, affected resellers may sell inventory already on hand but will not receive new Trezor stock. That transitional arrangement means an item can be offered by a seller whose authorization is scheduled to end, so current authorization status matters more than a listing’s age or a retailer’s reputation alone.

Consumers should therefore avoid assuming that every non-direct seller is affected—or that every seller not named in news coverage remains authorized. Verify the specific seller at the time of purchase and prefer a manufacturer-operated store when its availability and regional delivery terms meet your needs.

The Bottom Line
Trezor’s reseller reduction is a precaution following a Ledger tampering incident linked in reporting to CryptoBilis. It is not evidence that Trezor wallets were compromised, and the full list and scale of Trezor’s reseller cuts remain undisclosed. Authorization changes are reported to take effect on January 1, 2027.
