If Tresorit is not the right fit, compare alternatives by what you need to protect and how you need to share it. Proton Drive is a well-documented option for personal encrypted storage and controlled sharing; Sync.com is another candidate to investigate, but the available product details here do not support a feature or price ranking. For business use, weigh administration, collaboration, and contractual compliance requirements—not just an encryption label.

What Tresorit offers as a baseline

Tresorit describes SecureCloud as cloud storage and file sharing protected by zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption. According to Tresorit, files and relevant metadata are encrypted on users’ devices with unique keys, which are not sent to its servers in unencrypted form. It also describes zero-knowledge authentication, client-side integrity protection, and cryptographic key sharing. These are the company’s own descriptions, not an independent assessment. Tresorit’s security overview explains its claims.

Tresorit separates personal storage, business storage, and data-room workflows. Its product page positions SecureCloud for Private Use for personal files, documents, and family photos; SecureCloud for Business for organizational storage and sharing; and Engage for Business as encrypted data rooms for workflows such as onboarding through sign-off. Tresorit’s product selection outlines those distinctions.

Business controls and compliance claims

For business customers, Tresorit lists policy templates for two-step verification, IP filtering, session timeouts, allowed devices, and sharing policies. It says Advanced Control can revoke access from lost or stolen devices and reset user passwords. Its listed capabilities also include SSO integration with Azure AD and Okta, granular permissions, secure external collaboration, version and deleted-file restoration, reporting, and Outlook and Active Directory integrations. Confirm which capabilities are included in the plan you are considering.

Proton Drive Personal storage, cross-device access, and controlled sharing Proton describes end-to-end encrypted storage and lists password-protected shares with expiry dates, desktop syncing, automatic mobile photo backups, and collaborative albums. It lists Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and web access. These are Proton’s own product claims. Proton Drive. Whether its business administration, compliance, and collaboration controls meet your specific requirements; do not assume parity with Tresorit’s listed business controls.
Sync.com A candidate to investigate for secure cloud storage Its official landing page identifies the service as secure cloud storage and internet storage. Sync.com. Current encryption details, plan quotas, prices, and feature parity; the available official-page information does not establish these sufficiently for a rigorous comparison.

Proton’s homepage also says it is “Trusted by over 100 million users and organizations.” That is an undated vendor marketing claim, not an independently validated or dated user statistic. Proton Drive.

How to choose the right Tresorit alternative

Start with the files, users, and workflows you actually have. A personal photo library has different needs from an organization sharing sensitive records with outside partners. Compare the following points against the exact plans under consideration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Encryption and key access: Check whether both file contents and relevant metadata are encrypted end to end, how keys are handled, and whether the provider can access plaintext. Tresorit and Proton describe end-to-end encryption, but their claims should not be treated as proof that their implementations or coverage are identical.
  • Sharing and collaboration: Look for password protection, expiry, permission granularity, revocation, and external collaboration. If your workflow needs data rooms, co-editing, or review and sign-off, confirm those capabilities directly rather than inferring them from file sharing.
  • Administration: For a team, check SSO, device restrictions, policy enforcement, account recovery, and reporting or audit capabilities. Tresorit lists several such business controls; equivalent controls for other candidates are not established by the product information described here.
  • Compliance and residency: Identify the relevant certification, data-residency location, DPA or BAA terms, and contractual commitments for your workflow. A certification or vendor statement alone does not prove that your organization’s use is compliant.
  • Platforms and integrations: Confirm that every employee or recipient can use the required desktop, mobile, and web clients. Proton lists Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and web access; Tresorit lists Microsoft, Gmail, Outlook, and directory integrations. Confirm the exact integration and plan availability before choosing.
  • Total cost: Compare the same region, billing term, number of users, storage needs, file limits, add-ons, migration effort, and administration costs. Current comparable region-specific prices and plan limits are not established here, so there is no evidence-based price winner.
