The extension most likely meant by “the whole reason I use Firefox” is Tree Style Tab, though the title does not name it and the identification is inferred from a related user discussion. It displays Firefox tabs in a parent-and-child tree, so pages opened from a tab can stay visibly connected to it. That organization—not a claim that Firefox is universally better than Chrome or Brave—is the appeal for people who keep many related pages open.
What Tree Style Tab does
Tree Style Tab is a Firefox add-on that presents open tabs as a tree rather than only as a row of tabs. According to its Mozilla Firefox Add-ons listing, a tab opened from the current tab can appear as its child. You can collapse a branch or rearrange the tree by dragging tabs.
This makes the tab list a kind of visual browsing history: a search or topic page can remain the parent of pages opened from it. The extension’s listing describes this as a way to keep related tabs together; it is a product description, not an independently measured productivity result.

Why that can matter when many tabs are open
In a July 2022 Hacker News discussion, one user said Tree Style Tab was the feature that prompted their move to Firefox, pointing to the legibility of tab titles in a vertical layout when many tabs were open. That is one person’s account, not evidence that all Firefox users share the preference or that the extension is categorically better than Chrome or Brave.

The practical distinction is how you want to understand your open pages. A horizontal strip emphasizes tabs as a flat list; a tree can show which pages came from which starting point. That relationship may help when you are researching several topics, comparing pages within one subject, or returning to a page that opened a cluster of related pages.
Who should consider it—and who may not need it
- Consider it if you want a parent-child structure, often open pages from other pages, and prefer to scan titles in a vertical list.
- It may be unnecessary if you keep few tabs open, prefer a flat tab strip, or do not want to manage a hierarchy.
- Think about your preferred organization first: the key question is whether you want a tree, simple vertical tabs, tab groups, or broader customization.
How it differs from other Firefox tab add-ons
Mozilla’s add-on listing also names other projects in this space. Its descriptions suggest different organizational approaches, but they are high-level descriptions rather than a current, exhaustive feature comparison.

What this says about choosing Firefox
A tab extension can be a decisive reason for one person to use a browser, but it is not a general verdict on Firefox, Chrome, or Brave. If the tree structure and vertical titles match how you work, Tree Style Tab gives you a specific feature to evaluate in Firefox. If you mainly want a vertical list or grouped tabs, the alternatives above point to different approaches.
