For a one-time transfer to a computer, connect the unlocked Samsung tablet with a data-capable USB cable, approve the connection, choose Transferring files or MTP in the USB notification, and copy the pictures from the tablet’s device folder. The right alternative depends on where the pictures are going: Quick Share or Nearby Share suits a few files sent to a nearby device, Smart Switch handles a broader Galaxy migration, My Files can copy to compatible USB storage, and cloud sync keeps a library available across devices.

Choose the transfer method that matches your destination

There is no single “best” transfer method for every situation. Decide first whether you need a one-time copy, a device migration, an intermediary drive, or continuing access to the same photo library.

Destination and goal Best starting method Connection What it is suited for Important compatibility point
Windows PC or Mac; selected pictures USB cable and manual file copy Direct cable Specific files or folders without internet or a migration utility The cable and any adapter must support the tablet and computer pairing; the tablet must expose file transfer
Nearby phone or tablet; a few pictures Gallery sharing with Quick Share or Nearby Share Nearby wireless connection Quickly sending selected Gallery items The receiving device must support the sharing option and accept the request
Another Galaxy phone or tablet; broad setup transfer Smart Switch Wireless or cable; desktop versions also exist Moving photos plus other supported content during device setup Transferable content varies with the devices involved
Flash drive, external drive, or supported microSD My Files with USB OTG or removable storage Direct connection or removable card Making a physical copy without a computer or internet USB OTG, the storage format, and microSD support vary by tablet model
Ongoing access or backup Gallery sync with OneDrive or photo/video backup through Google Drive Internet Keeping pictures available on signed-in devices or preserving a backup Accounts, permissions, network settings, and available cloud storage apply

Transfer selected pictures to a Windows PC or Mac with a USB cable

A cable is the most direct choice when you want particular pictures in a normal computer folder. Samsung notes that the cable included with the tablet may work, but a different cable or an adapter can be necessary for the specific tablet and computer. A cable that charges the tablet is not automatically suitable for data transfer.

Prepare the tablet and connection

  1. Unlock the tablet before connecting it. A locked device may charge without making its files available.
  2. Connect the tablet to the computer with a compatible USB data cable. If the connectors do not match, use an adapter intended for that device combination.
  3. Approve the connection or access request on the tablet if one appears.
  4. If the computer still cannot browse the tablet, open the tablet’s USB notification and select Transferring files or MTP. The exact notification wording can vary by Galaxy model and software version.

Copy pictures on Windows

  1. Open File Explorer on the PC.
  2. Select the connected Galaxy device in the navigation pane and open the device folder presented by Windows.
  3. Select the pictures or folders you need. You can select individual files for a small transfer or a complete folder when you want to preserve a larger set.
  4. Choose copy, open the destination folder on the computer, and paste the files. Wait until the copy operation has completed before unplugging the tablet.
  5. Use Windows’ eject command for the connected tablet, then disconnect the cable.

This approach leaves the originals on the tablet. Use a move command only when you deliberately want to remove them after confirming the copied files open correctly.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Copy pictures on a Mac

  1. Connect and unlock the tablet, approve any access request, and select Transferring files or MTP from the USB notification if required.
  2. Use Finder to select the files exposed by the tablet, following the file-transfer interface available on your Mac and Galaxy software version.
  3. Drag the selected pictures to the desired Mac folder and wait for the operation to finish.
  4. Eject the tablet from the Mac before disconnecting it.

Samsung’s generic instructions cover Galaxy phones and tablets rather than one specific model. If your Mac or tablet presents different labels, use the controls shown by that software version and check the tablet’s model-specific support information.

Fix a tablet that charges but does not show pictures

Most failed cable transfers are caused by connection mode, cable compatibility, or an unanswered permission prompt. Work through these checks in order:

  • Unlock and approve: Wake and unlock the tablet, reconnect it, and accept any request to allow access.
  • Change the USB mode: Open the USB notification and select Transferring files or MTP, not a charge-only setting.
  • Check the cable and adapter: Try a cable known to support data and an adapter appropriate for both connectors. Samsung specifically warns that another cable or adapter may be needed.
  • Check the computer port: Reconnect directly to a different compatible port if the current port supplies power but does not establish a data connection.
  • Look in the device entry: After changing the mode, close and reopen File Explorer or Finder and open the Galaxy device again.
  • Allow time for a large copy: Do not disconnect while the computer is still showing file activity. Interrupting a transfer can leave an incomplete destination file.

Menu names and available connection modes differ by tablet model and operating-system version. Treat the labels displayed on your device as authoritative rather than assuming every Galaxy tablet has identical menus.

Send a few pictures to a nearby phone or tablet

When the recipient is close by and you only need selected Gallery pictures, wireless sharing is usually faster to set up than a cable-and-folder workflow.

  1. Open Gallery on the Samsung tablet.
  2. Select one or more pictures.
  3. Tap Share.
  4. Choose Quick Share or Nearby Share if that option is available.
  5. Select the nearby recipient and have the receiving device accept the transfer when prompted.

These options are for compatible nearby devices and selected items. They are not a substitute for a full device migration, and the available recipient list depends on the devices and their sharing settings. If the recipient is not detected, confirm that both devices support the chosen service, are near each other, and are ready to accept a share.

Move pictures while setting up another Galaxy device with Smart Switch

Use Smart Switch when the goal is broader than a handful of pictures—for example, setting up another Galaxy phone or tablet and bringing over photos along with other supported content. Samsung documents both wireless and cable transfers, and a Smart Switch version for Windows or Mac can handle supported desktop transfers.

Choose wireless or cable migration

  • Wireless: Useful when both Galaxy devices are available and you do not want to connect them physically.
  • Cable: Useful when a direct connection is more reliable for the devices involved and you have the required cable or adapter.
  • Windows or Mac: The desktop Smart Switch workflow is an option when you want the computer involved in the migration.

Follow the Smart Switch prompts on both devices, select the content categories that include photos and videos, and allow the process to finish before disconnecting either device. The content Smart Switch can transfer depends on the sending and receiving devices, so do not assume every tablet feature or every app’s data will migrate.

Copy pictures to a USB flash drive, external drive, or microSD card

A compatible external drive is useful when you want a physical copy without a computer or cloud account. Samsung documents using a USB OTG flash drive or storage drive through the tablet’s charging port and managing the files in My Files.

Use USB OTG storage

  1. Connect a compatible USB OTG flash drive or external storage device to the tablet’s charging port. An adapter may be required, and not every tablet supports every storage device.
  2. Open My Files.
  3. Select the pictures you want to transfer.
  4. Choose the copy or move command, select the connected external storage as the destination, and confirm.
  5. Open the destination in My Files and verify that representative pictures are present before removing the drive.
  6. Safely unmount or eject the external storage in the tablet’s available storage controls, then disconnect it.

Copy keeps the tablet originals; move removes them after the operation succeeds. For irreplaceable pictures, copy first and verify the external files before deleting anything from the tablet.

Use a microSD card only when supported

Some Galaxy tablets accept microSD cards and others do not. Support also varies by model and software. If your tablet supports a card, use My Files to copy or move the selected pictures to it, then remove the card only after using the system’s safe-removal control. Never treat a card slot or a particular storage capacity as universal across the Galaxy tablet range.

Keep pictures available with cloud sync or backup

Cloud services solve a different problem from a manual copy. They are useful when you want access from multiple signed-in devices or an online backup rather than a one-time folder on a computer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sync selected Gallery albums with OneDrive

  1. Open the Gallery settings on the tablet and choose the option for syncing with OneDrive.
  2. Sign in to the required account and grant the requested permissions.
  3. Select which albums to sync.
  4. Choose whether synchronization may use Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  5. Leave the tablet connected long enough for the selected albums to finish syncing, then confirm availability from the signed-in destination.

Album selection and network choices matter: syncing only selected albums does not automatically include every picture on the tablet. Account status, permissions, connectivity, and available cloud storage can affect whether new items appear.

Back up photos and videos through Google Drive

Samsung also documents photo and video backup through Google Drive. Open the backup controls available on your tablet, sign in to the Google account you intend to use, grant permissions, and select the photo or video categories offered by that version of the software. Verify that the backup has completed before relying on it as your only copy.

Cloud sync and backup should not be confused with manually copying a chosen set of files: sync is intended to keep selected content available across devices, while a cable or external drive gives you a discrete local copy you can inspect directly.

Verify the transfer before deleting originals

  • Open several transferred pictures at the destination, including at least one from the beginning, middle, and end of the selection.
  • Check that the number of destination files matches what you selected, especially after a large copy.
  • Keep the tablet originals until the destination is readable and you have confirmed that the pictures are the intended versions.
  • For external storage, safely unmount before unplugging. For a computer, eject the tablet before disconnecting.
  • For cloud services, verify that the albums or backup items are visible from the destination account rather than assuming that a sign-in alone completed the upload.

Quick decision guide

  1. Need a few pictures on a nearby compatible device? Use Gallery, Share, then Quick Share or Nearby Share.
  2. Need selected pictures in a Windows or Mac folder? Use the USB cable, unlock the tablet, choose Transferring files or MTP, and copy them manually.
  3. Need photos plus other supported data on a new Galaxy device? Use Smart Switch and follow its wireless or cable prompts.
  4. Need a computer-free physical copy? Use My Files with compatible USB OTG storage or a supported microSD card.
  5. Need continuing access or an off-device backup? Configure Gallery sync or photo/video backup through a signed-in cloud account.
