To connect TradingView alerts to an AI trading agent without silently losing signals, separate delivery from decision-making. Send a small, authenticated HTTPS POST to an always-on receiver; validate and durably store the raw event; acknowledge TradingView immediately; then process the event through normalization, AI interpretation, deterministic risk controls, and broker execution. Give every alert an event ID and idempotency key so retries cannot create duplicate orders. This design cannot make an unreliable network perfect, but it makes missing, delayed, repeated, and rejected signals visible and recoverable.

What the connection must guarantee

TradingView is the alert producer, not the trading engine. It sends an HTTP POST to the webhook URL configured in an alert. If the message is valid JSON, the request is labeled application/json; other messages use text/plain. Your endpoint must be reachable on HTTPS port 443 or HTTP port 80. In practice, use HTTPS and terminate TLS at a maintained edge service or reverse proxy.

The webhook handler has a very small response budget. TradingView states that if the remote server takes longer than three seconds to process a request, it cancels that request. A handler that waits for an AI model, a database with unpredictable latency, or a broker API is therefore a likely source of apparent signal loss. The handler’s job is authentication, schema validation, timestamping, durable persistence, and a fast 2xx response—not trading.

Delivery is also at-least-once rather than exactly-once. For an HTTP 500–599 response, except 504, TradingView waits five seconds and resends, with up to three resends. One trigger can consequently produce four sends. Your system must make repeated delivery harmless and must distinguish a duplicate from a genuinely new event.

  • Explain every outcome: correlate alert emission, receipt, queueing, model decision, broker acknowledgement, and fill.

Reference architecture

The following pipeline keeps the time-critical path short while retaining enough evidence to replay a signal:

  1. Pine alert producer: emits a strict JSON event containing identity, strategy context, and trade data.
  2. HTTPS edge receiver: verifies the request, checks content type and schema, records receipt time, and returns 2xx.
  3. Durable event store or queue: commits the raw payload before acknowledgement and assigns an internal ingestion record.
  4. Normalizer and deduplicator: converts fields to canonical types, derives an idempotency key, and applies ordering and staleness policy.
  5. AI interpretation service: classifies context or proposes an intent while storing model input, output, and model version.
  6. Deterministic risk layer: enforces limits and can reject an otherwise plausible model proposal.
  7. Broker or exchange adapter: submits only approved intents and records request, acknowledgement, order ID, fills, rejects, and timing.
  8. Observability and reconciliation: compares TradingView’s alert log with receiver, queue, decision, and execution records.

1. Emit an identifiable event from Pine

Design the alert message as a versioned contract. Include a unique alert or event ID, strategy version, symbol, timeframe, side, trigger timestamp, price or relevant levels, and a nonce. Add a sequence number when the strategy can produce one. Keep the payload compact so parsing and logging stay predictable.

{
  "event_id": "tv-20261018-0001842",
  "strategy_version": "breakout-v7",
  "symbol": "EXAMPLE",
  "timeframe": "15",
  "side": "buy",
  "trigger_time": "2026-10-18T12:15:00Z",
  "price": 123.45,
  "stop": 120.10,
  "target": 129.00,
  "sequence": 1842,
  "nonce": "random-per-trigger"
}

Use Pine’s alert(), alertcondition(), or strategy order-fill messages according to what the strategy needs to signal. Treat the event schema as an API: validate required fields, reject unknown or malformed values according to a documented policy, and increase strategy_version when semantics change.

2. Build the HTTPS edge receiver

Expose one narrowly scoped endpoint, such as POST /tradingview/webhook. Accept only the methods and content types you need. Verify the TLS certificate fields that identify TradingView’s webhook server when your deployment supports that check, and restrict network access where practical. Authentication should be based on a mechanism designed for the receiver; never place passwords, API keys, or broker credentials in the TradingView message body.

The request path should perform these operations in order:

  1. Capture the request arrival time and a correlation ID.
  2. Verify transport and source-authentication requirements.
  3. Read the body once, enforce a size limit, and retain the raw bytes.
  4. Check that the declared content type matches the parser.
  5. Validate the JSON schema and basic value ranges.
  6. Write the raw event and an ingestion record to durable storage or a durable queue.
  7. Return a 2xx response without invoking the model or broker.

If persistence fails, return an appropriate error rather than claiming success. TradingView’s retry behavior can then create another delivery, which your idempotency logic must safely absorb after storage recovers.

3. Persist before you acknowledge

A memory-only buffer is not durable. Use a transactional database insert or a queue that confirms a replicated write. Store the exact payload, headers required for verification, receipt time, source event ID, strategy version, payload hash, and current processing state. Keep the original even after normalization; it is the evidence needed for audits and deterministic replay.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A useful state model is received, validated, duplicate, queued, decided, rejected, submitted, filled, and failed. State transitions should be append-only or otherwise auditable, with the actor, timestamp, and reason recorded.

4. Deduplicate and preserve ordering

Use a stable idempotency key derived from the producer’s event ID and strategy version. If an event ID can be reused across symbols or deployments, include those dimensions as well. Enforce uniqueness in durable storage, not only in application memory. A duplicate request should return a normal success after the original record is found; it should not enqueue a second trade.

When sequence numbers exist, process them in order or explicitly document how gaps are handled. For events without sequence numbers, use trigger time plus a bounded policy for late arrivals. Define what “stale” means for each strategy: a scalp signal may expire in seconds, while a daily rebalance may remain actionable for minutes. Rejecting a stale event is safer than sending an order whose market context has already changed, but retain the rejected event for review.

5. Let AI interpret, never authorize by itself

The AI worker can classify market context, summarize the alert, estimate whether conditions match a playbook, or propose a trade intent. Store the model name or version, system and user inputs, output, and decision timestamp. Use a strict output schema rather than parsing free-form prose. For example, require fields such as action, confidence, rationale, and proposed order parameters.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Model output is untrusted data until it passes deterministic controls. A timeout, malformed response, prompt-injection attempt in an external field, or unexplained parameter change should produce a non-trading outcome and an auditable reason. Keep model calls out of the ingress path so a provider slowdown cannot consume TradingView’s response budget.

6. Enforce deterministic risk controls

The risk layer should be ordinary code with tests and explicit configuration. At minimum, check:

  • symbol, venue, account, and order-type allowlists;
  • maximum position size, notional value, leverage, and daily loss;
  • duplicate-order suppression against both the event key and live broker state;
  • signal age, trading hours, market status, and required price bands;
  • available buying power, margin, and existing exposure;
  • kill switches for a strategy, account, venue, or the entire execution service.

Risk rules should be able to veto an AI proposal without changing the original event. Record the exact rule and values that caused a rejection so an operator can distinguish a valid safety block from a software defect.

7. Use a broker adapter with reconciliation

Keep broker-specific authentication and request formatting in an adapter. Submit only the normalized, approved intent. Record the outbound request with secrets redacted, the broker acknowledgement, broker order ID, fills, rejects, and elapsed times. If the network fails after submission, do not blindly submit again; query the broker by your client order ID or other idempotent reference, then reconcile the result.

Choosing alert timing: immediacy versus confirmation

TradingView alerts can react during an unfinished bar or wait for confirmed information. Intrabar behavior offers earlier notification but is more exposed to repainting: a condition visible in realtime can disappear when the bar is recalculated. Confirmed-bar or once-per-bar-close behavior is steadier because it waits for information that will not be revised in the same way, but the signal arrives later. TradingView’s Pine documentation describes this trade-off directly: avoiding this repainting has no universal cure and requires sacrificing immediacy.

Choice Strength Cost or risk Appropriate control
Immediate intrabar Lowest signal delay More provisional values and repaint exposure Short signal TTL, strict price checks, and post-trade review
Confirmed bar close More repeatable historical and realtime behavior Entry occurs later and price may move Use when confirmation matters more than the first tick
Hybrid Early notice plus a confirmation event Requires event types and deduplication for both stages Allow only the confirmed event to authorize a trade

Choose deliberately in the Create Alert dialog and document the choice with the strategy version. Do not assume that changing Pine code changes an existing alert.

Why an alert may appear to vanish

The alert was never active

TradingView requires the user to create an alert from the script trigger in the Create Alert dialog. Confirm that the alert is enabled, has not expired, and is attached to the intended symbol, timeframe, and condition.

The receiver exceeded the response budget

Inspect receiver access logs for the request and response duration. If the handler performs model or broker work, move that work behind the durable write and return 2xx immediately.

The request was delivered but rejected

Compare the TradingView alert log with ingress records. A schema, authentication, content-type, or size rejection should have a reason code and the retained raw body. Fix the contract rather than retrying malformed data indefinitely.

A retry created confusion

Search by event ID and payload hash. Multiple deliveries of one trigger are expected under the documented retry conditions; only the first accepted idempotency key should create a processing job.

The script changed after the alert was created

Existing alerts are snapshots of the Pine script, its inputs, and chart context. Editing the script does not update that snapshot. Delete and recreate alerts after changing code, inputs, symbol context, or timeframe.

Realtime and historical results differ

Reloading a chart can make a trigger look inconsistent when the original alert used provisional realtime data or a repainting calculation. Compare the alert-log timestamp and payload with the script’s confirmed-bar policy before diagnosing the receiver.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Operational runbook for a missing signal

  1. Check the alert is active, unexpired, and created from the current script trigger.
  2. Send a one-time test alert and record its exact emission time and event ID.
  3. Inspect the TradingView alert log for a send attempt and any reported delivery status.
  4. Search the HTTPS receiver by event ID, correlation ID, and payload hash.
  5. Verify that the raw body was durably stored before the 2xx response.
  6. Follow the event through deduplication, queue, AI decision, risk result, and broker acknowledgement.
  7. If no receipt exists, investigate DNS, TLS, firewall, port, certificate, and endpoint configuration before changing the AI or broker.
  8. If receipt exists but execution does not, replay the retained event in a non-trading or paper environment and inspect the first failed state transition.
  9. After Pine changes, recreate the alert and rerun the one-time test.

Security and failure containment

Use least-privilege credentials for each service and keep broker secrets in a secret manager, not in Pine code, alert text, logs, or model prompts. Redact credentials from structured logs. Rotate authentication material without changing the event schema. Rate-limit malformed requests and cap body size to prevent the ingress endpoint from becoming an attack surface.

Separate paper, simulation, and live accounts at the credential and network level. A global kill switch should stop new submissions while allowing reconciliation of already-open orders. During an incident, preserve incoming payloads and disable execution rather than deleting evidence or repeatedly replaying live events.

Measure delivery instead of assuming it

TradingView’s cited documentation does not publish an end-to-end webhook success-rate percentage or latency percentile. Build those measurements yourself. Emit counters and timestamps for:

  • alerts observed in the TradingView log;
  • requests received and authenticated;
  • 2xx acknowledgements and non-2xx responses;
  • durable writes and queue delays;
  • new event IDs versus duplicates;
  • stale, expired, and schema-invalid events;
  • AI decisions, risk approvals, and risk rejections;
  • broker submissions, acknowledgements, fills, and rejects;
  • events that never reach the next state within their deadline.

Alert operators on missing acknowledgements, retry spikes, duplicate-ID bursts, stale-event growth, queue backlogs, and latency-budget breaches. A daily reconciliation that compares TradingView emission records with your received IDs can reveal gaps that ordinary application logs miss.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Implementation choices and their trade-offs

Decision Option A Option B How to choose
Receiver hosting Managed relay or queue Self-hosted HTTPS service Managed reduces operations; self-hosting offers more control over retention, replay, and cost.
Processing path Synchronous end-to-end Queue-first workers Synchronous is simpler; queue-first protects the acknowledgement budget and improves auditability.
AI authority Model proposes intent Model can submit directly Keep deterministic risk gates between any model output and execution.
Delivery paths One webhook Webhook plus reconciliation or secondary notification Redundancy can expose delivery gaps, but every path must share the same idempotency key.

Production checklist

  • HTTPS endpoint is reachable on the supported port and validates the expected TradingView request.
  • Raw payload is retained durably before acknowledgement.
  • Event ID, strategy version, nonce, and idempotency key are present and unique.
  • Duplicate deliveries cannot create duplicate jobs or orders.
  • AI and broker calls run asynchronously, with timeouts and recorded versions.
  • Risk rules enforce limits independently of the model.
  • Broker uncertainty triggers reconciliation, not blind resubmission.
  • Alert timing, confirmed-bar policy, and signal-expiry rules are documented.
  • Alerts are recreated whenever Pine code, inputs, or chart context changes.
  • Operators can trace an event from alert log to fill and replay it safely.

A reliable TradingView-to-AI connection is therefore an event-delivery system with trading attached, not a single webhook script. Fast authenticated ingress, durable storage, idempotent processing, confirmed-versus-immediate timing decisions, and hard risk controls are what prevent a missed notification from becoming an invisible trade.
