A trading VPS is useful when an automated platform, Expert Advisor (EA), or signal subscription must keep running while your own computer is off. Choose one by checking its connection to your specific broker’s trade server, compatibility with your platform and workload, operational terms, and total cost—not by relying on a generic speed claim. A VPS cannot improve a strategy or guarantee better fills or profits.

When a trading VPS is useful

MetaQuotes’ MetaTrader 5 virtual hosting guide describes round-the-clock operation as a core purpose of virtual hosting. It identifies a trader’s own robot, a purchased EA, or a signal subscription as use cases that need a constant connection. This is an always-on hosting choice for automation, not a requirement for manual trading.

Hosting moves the platform’s operation to a remote server so it can continue when the computer you normally use is off or disconnected. It does not change the logic of an EA, improve a discretionary decision, or ensure that an order will be filled at a particular price.

How to compare trading VPS options

Measure the route to your broker’s trade server

Start with the server your trading account actually uses. MetaTrader’s registration flow can identify the broker server and show an estimated connection-delay comparison between hosting locations. MetaQuotes’ server-registration help explains that lower network latency can improve execution conditions, including the possibility of reduced slippage or requotes; this is not a promise of a specific execution result.

Virtual Private Server
  • Virtual Private Server Information

Compare the candidate VPS route with your current setup, ideally at times relevant to your trading. A provider’s advertised ping, data-center location, or broad speed claim may not represent the route from that VPS to your account’s broker server. The closest listed location is not automatically the fastest: routing and network connections also matter.

Confirm platform and workload fit

Check support for the exact trading platform and version, then estimate the resources your setup needs. Account for the number of terminals, EAs or signal subscriptions, CPU and memory use, storage, and any licensing or activation limits. Ask how resource use is monitored and what happens if your workload exceeds its allocation.

MetaQuotes’ current MQL5 VPS product page describes allocations of up to 3 GB RAM and up to 16 GB disk, with several CPUs on demand. These are figures for that service, not minimum requirements for every trader or a guarantee that a particular workload will fit. Confirm the applicable limits and compatibility before choosing.

Read the reliability and operations terms

Look beyond an uptime headline. Check how the provider defines availability, scheduled maintenance, restarts, monitoring, support hours, backups, and recovery after an interruption. Establish whether you can reach someone when the platform stops or the server needs attention.

The MQL5 product page publishes a maximum uptime claim of 99.99%. This is a vendor-published figure; the page does not establish an independent measurement or explain a test methodology. Treat it as a claim about that service, not as an industry-wide benchmark or a substitute for reviewing the terms that apply to your account.

Understand migration and setup

Before moving, find out what transfers and what you must configure again: platform settings, robots, charts or workspace state, and signal subscriptions. MetaTrader’s virtual-hosting documentation describes migration from a local environment. Follow the platform’s transfer procedure and verify on the hosted instance that the expected tools are active and operating.

Verify eligibility and the full recurring cost

MetaTrader offers hosting rental through its platform, and a broker may sponsor hosting for eligible accounts. Sponsorship depends on the broker; do not assume it is free or available to every account. Check the current offer and conditions with your broker and in the platform’s registration flow.

What MetaQuotes’ published figures do—and do not—show

The MQL5 product page currently promotes more than 30 hosting points, access to 96% of broker servers in less than 10 ms, access to 84% in less than 3 ms, and maximum uptime of 99.99%. It also describes up to 3 GB RAM and up to 16 GB disk, with several CPUs on demand. These are the service vendor’s own published figures; the page does not provide a publication date or test methodology for them, and they are not independent comparative results.

Use those figures as a starting point for questions, not as a universal performance forecast. They do not establish what latency you will get to your broker, whether a specific EA will fit an allocation, or whether execution quality or trading outcomes will improve.

Integrated hosting or a general-purpose VPS?

Platform-integrated hosting can simplify selecting a location in relation to a broker server and moving a MetaTrader setup. A general-purpose VPS may be worth considering when its documented platform support, resources, remote access, and operating terms fit your needs. Do not assume any provider supports your platform, version, broker, or operating system; verify each directly.

For either option, compare credible candidates on the same measures: broker-side latency, platform and workload support, resource limits, service availability and maintenance, support and recovery, migration effort, security responsibilities, and full cost. A single ping number is not enough to name a universal best choice.

A practical selection checklist

  1. Identify the broker server. Use the server assigned to your trading account, not a general estimate for the broker.
  2. Compare routes. Check the platform’s estimated delay for available hosting locations and compare it with your current setup under relevant conditions.
  3. Inventory your workload. List terminals, EAs, signals, platform versions, resource use, and any activation constraints.
  4. Confirm service limits. Get the provider’s applicable resource allocation, platform support, monitoring, and overage or restart policies.
  5. Review operations. Read availability definitions, maintenance practices, support coverage, backup and recovery arrangements, and migration instructions.
  6. Calculate the real cost. Verify eligibility, sponsorship, renewal, cancellation, resource-tier charges, and taxes.
  7. Test after migration. Confirm that the hosted platform, robots, settings, and subscriptions are present and functioning as intended.
