To use ClickUp Goals, open Goals from Global Navigation, create a Goal, and add measurable Targets. Update the Targets as work progresses; ClickUp rolls their progress up into the Goal. You can organize Goals in Folders, control who can see them, and display their progress on a Dashboard.
Open Goals and create an objective
- In Global Navigation, select Goals. If it is not visible, click More, select Goals, and pin it if you want it to stay visible.
- On the Goals page, click + New Goal in the upper-right corner and enter the Goal details.
- Add one or more Targets that show how you will measure progress.
A Goal is the high-level objective; its Targets are the smaller measurable components. ClickUp calculates Goal progress from those Targets. See ClickUp’s Create a Goal guide for its current interface instructions.
Choose the Target type that matches the result
| Target type | Use it to track |
|---|---|
| Number | A quantity or range, including increases or decreases. |
| True/False | A binary milestone; mark it Done or Not Done. |
| Currency | A monetary Goal, tracking increases or decreases. |
| Task | Completion of one task, a subtask, or an entire List. |
For example, use Number when progress is a count, True/False when a milestone has only two states, Currency for a money measure, and Task when the work already exists in ClickUp. These types are options for representing progress; choose based on the signal your objective needs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUpdate progress and maintain Targets
- Open a Target and enter or change its value, or update its completion state.
- Review the Goal’s progress percentage, which updates automatically when its Targets change.
- To rename or delete a Target, use the ellipsis menu beside its name.
- To change a Goal’s color, open that Goal’s ellipsis menu and choose Change color.
When a task is attached to a Task Target, its task details display a Goal badge.

Organize Goals and OKRs
Use Goal Folders for grouped objectives
Create a Goal Folder from the Goals page, then create Goals inside it or move existing Goals into it. Goal Folders are available on Business and higher plans. Folders can group objectives by team, period, or another structure that suits your workspace.
Distinguish Targets from task-based OKR planning
ClickUp also describes a separate task-based approach to OKRs: use a dedicated Space for goals and OKRs, organize Folders around company-wide, departmental, quarterly, or regional groupings, create one task per objective, and use subtasks for key results. Relationships can connect team OKR tasks to company- or department-level OKRs across hierarchy locations. This approach is distinct from a Goal with built-in Targets, and the two can be used together: Goals aggregate Target progress, while OKR tasks support discussion and linked work.
