Adil Sadqi’s worklog-for-claude-code is an open-source Linux tool that turns Claude Code’s local session transcripts into a daily work report. It groups activity by project, totals tokens by day, account, and model, and includes a 14-day chart. Sadqi describes it as a way to answer two practical questions: what you worked on today and how much Claude Code used.
The project’s author says the records stay on your machines and in a Git repository you control. That is a description of the design, not an independent security audit; the tool currently requires Linux with systemd and covers Claude Code sessions, not chats on claude.ai.
What the work log records and shows
The report is built around session activity rather than a live view of everything happening in a Claude account. Sadqi says it records each session’s first prompt, truncated to 300 characters, token counts, file names, and the user’s own commit subjects. The generated daily Markdown report is displayed in a local web interface.

How collection and reporting work
Claude Code writes session transcripts locally. As described by Sadqi, the tool collects information through session-start and session-end hooks, with an hourly systemd timer intended to catch events a hook might miss. It writes a JSON record for each session into a Git repository controlled by the user. A nightly job creates the Markdown report that the local UI displays.
For multiple computers, each machine writes to its own file paths in the repository, a design Sadqi says avoids merge conflicts when the machines push their records to the same repository. The author suggests using a private GitHub or GitLab repository to synchronize the data. That setup makes the repository part of the privacy boundary: its access settings and any copies or backups matter as well as the local machine.

Privacy design claims and what they mean
Sadqi says the tool does not retain file contents, Claude’s replies, tool output, or credentials. Before saving records, the program is described as redacting API keys, tokens, JWTs, private keys, passwords in URLs, email addresses, and IP addresses. These are author-reported data-handling claims; the article does not establish that every sensitive value will be detected or that the software has undergone a security audit.

The author also says there is no server or telemetry, and that the data remains on the user’s computer and private repository. Optional AI summaries run through the user’s own claude -p command; Sadqi says disabling summaries keeps the workflow fully local. The local web UI is described as listening on loopback and checking Host and Origin headers, using CSRF tokens, and sending a strict Content-Security-Policy. Those are features reported by the author, not independently verified guarantees.

Try the demo or set it up
The source article gives this command to launch a demo with pipx:
pipx run --spec worklog-for-claude-code claude-worklog demo
The demo UI is served at http://localhost:8766. For an installation, Sadqi’s described flow uses pipx, a Git repository created by the user for work-log data, and the service installer. The setup form is served at http://worklog.localhost:8765.

- Run
claude-worklog install-serviceand complete the setup form athttp://worklog.localhost:8765. - Use Claude Code as usual, then check the local UI for the generated daily report. The author describes hooks as the primary capture path and an hourly systemd timer as a fallback.
These commands and addresses are those reported in Sadqi’s article; check the project’s current instructions before installation, since software and setup details can change.

Platform and coverage limits
- Operating system: Sadqi lists Linux with systemd as the current requirement. A macOS version would need launchd service units, according to the author.
- Assistant activity: The tool covers Claude Code, not claude.ai chats. Sadqi says those chats are not written to the local transcripts this workflow reads.
- Transcript compatibility: The transcript format is unofficial, so a Claude Code update could temporarily disrupt parsing. Sadqi says unrecognized lines are skipped rather than causing the parser to crash.
- Security assurance: The privacy and web-interface protections described are the author’s design claims; the cited article does not provide an independent audit.
