To enable TPM on Windows 10, first check whether it is present but disabled: press Windows key + R, enter tpm.msc, and select OK. If Windows says it cannot find a compatible TPM, the chip or firmware feature may simply be turned off. You can check UEFI settings for the right option, but the name and location vary by PC.

Important: Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Enabling TPM does not restore standard security updates. Microsoft recommends moving to Windows 11; for devices that do not meet its requirements, Microsoft points to Consumer Extended Security Updates or replacing the device.

Check whether Windows 10 can see a TPM

  1. Press Windows key + R to open Run.
  2. Enter tpm.msc and select OK.
  3. Read the status in the TPM Management console. If it says the TPM is ready for use, look under TPM Manufacturer Information for Specification Version.

Microsoft’s page on enabling TPM 2.0 addresses a Windows 11 requirement. TPM 2.0 should not be treated as a universal prerequisite for every feature in Windows 10.

Understand a “Compatible TPM cannot be found” message

This message does not prove that your PC has no TPM. Microsoft says a TPM may be installed but disabled. In Windows Security, open Device security and look for a Security processor section. If it appears, it provides manufacturer and version information. If it is missing, Microsoft says the PC may lack TPM hardware or the TPM may not be enabled in UEFI.

Enable TPM in UEFI firmware settings

  1. Open Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
  2. Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
  3. After the restart, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart.
  4. In the firmware menu, look under Advanced, Security, or Trusted Computing for a TPM-related setting. Common names include Security Device, Security Device Support, TPM State, AMD fTPM switch, AMD PSP fTPM, Intel PTT, and Intel Platform Trust Technology.
  5. Enable the relevant setting if you can identify it, save the firmware change, and restart Windows. Menu names and procedures differ among devices.
  6. Once Windows starts, check tpm.msc or return to Windows Security > Device security to see whether the TPM is now detected.

If you do not see UEFI Firmware Settings in Advanced options, or cannot confidently identify the correct firmware setting, use your PC maker’s support instructions or contact its support organization. Microsoft notes that firmware menus vary by device.

What TPM does—and what enabling it does not do

A Trusted Platform Module is a security component that performs cryptographic operations and securely stores cryptographic keys. It may be a discrete component on the motherboard or an integrated solution. Microsoft lists Windows Hello and BitLocker as examples of Windows features that use TPM.

TPM 2.0 Security Module 20-Pin LPC (2×10) for Gigabyte & ASUS Motherboards, Infineon SLB9665 Chip, GA 20-1 Pin, 2.54mm Pitch LPC Header, Windows 11 Ready, Compatible with GC-TPM2.0
  • 【Wide Compatibility – Gigabyte & ASUS】 Specifically designed for Gigabyte and ASUS desktop motherboards with a 20-1 pin (2x10 / GA 20-1) 2.54mm pitch LPC TPM header. Ideal for upgrading to TPM 2.0 on DDR4 systems. (Note: NOT compatible with 12-pin, 2x6, or 14-pin headers).
  • 【Windows 11 Readiness】 An essential hardware upgrade to meet Windows 11 security requirements. Ensure your system stays secure and up-to-date with a dedicated hardware TPM 2.0 module without replacing your entire motherboard or CPU.
  • 【Advanced Security & Encryption】 Powered by the standalone Infineon SLB9665 encryption processor. This module securely stores cryptographic keys for software like Windows BitLocker, providing a robust layer of hardware-based security for your data.
  • 【Platform Limits – No Laptops】 Optimized for Desktop motherboards from the DDR4 era (X99 series and newer). Not compatible with laptops or legacy DDR3 systems. Please verify your motherboard's header layout (2x10 pins) before ordering.
  • 【Easy Setup & BIOS Note】 Simple plug-and-play installation takes only minutes with no tools required. IMPORTANT: After installation, you MUST enable "Security Device Support" or "Intel PTT / AMD fTPM" in your BIOS settings for Windows to recognize the module.

Enabling TPM alone does not configure or turn on those features, and does not guarantee that a particular feature will work. Microsoft Support’s TPM enablement guidance says, “Most PCs shipped in the last 5 years are capable of running Trusted Platform Module version 2.0 (TPM 2.0).” That is a general statement, not a guarantee about an individual computer.

Account for Windows 10’s end of support

As of October 14, 2025, Microsoft no longer provides standard technical assistance, feature updates, or security updates for Windows 10. Microsoft recommends moving to Windows 11. If a device does not meet Windows 11 requirements, Microsoft identifies Consumer Extended Security Updates or device replacement as options. TPM can support security features, but it is not a substitute for using a supported operating system. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 end-of-support guidance.

When to get device-specific help

  • The TPM is ready: Note its specification version in tpm.msc; use that information when checking a particular feature’s requirements.
  • The TPM is not detected, but firmware has a clearly named setting: Enable it using the PC maker’s instructions, restart, and check Windows again.
  • No TPM option appears, the UEFI entry is missing, or the setting is unclear: Stop rather than changing unrelated firmware options. Consult the device maker; available settings depend on the PC and its firmware.

Microsoft’s overview of what a TPM is and its guide to Device security in Windows Security provide further detail about TPM and the Security processor section.
