If Windows says “Compatible TPM cannot be found,” the TPM may be disabled in UEFI rather than missing. First check what Windows reports, then confirm your exact PC or motherboard supports TPM and follow its firmware instructions. Don’t clear the TPM unless you have a specific reason and a recovery plan: clearing it removes stored keys that may protect sign-in or data.

1. Check whether Windows can see the TPM

Start with Windows before changing firmware. Open Windows Security > Device security and look for Security processor and Security processor details. If the section appears, check the specification version and note any message shown.

Alternatively, press Windows+R, enter tpm.msc, and press Enter. Review the TPM status and specification version. The message “Compatible TPM cannot be found” does not prove the device lacks a TPM; firmware may have it disabled.

Microsoft requires TPM 2.0 for Windows 11. A lower specification version does not meet that requirement. Microsoft also says most PCs shipped in the last five years are capable of TPM 2.0, but that broad guidance is not a guarantee for a particular model. Microsoft’s TPM 2.0 guidance explains how to check and enable it.

  • PIN DEFINE:14Pin
  • Interface:LPC
  • Please check the Pinout of mainboard at the official website and make sure it compatible with the pinout of TPM module before purchasing, thank you.

2. Confirm your exact PC or motherboard supports TPM

Look up the full computer model—or, for a custom-built PC, the motherboard model—on its manufacturer’s specifications and support pages. Check whether it supports a TPM and which firmware option enables it. An absent Security processor entry can mean the hardware is unsupported or that a supported TPM is disabled; Windows’ display alone cannot distinguish the two.

Microsoft recommends contacting the device maker when you cannot find a Security processor entry or need help determining whether the feature is supported. Start with the maker’s instructions for your exact model rather than assuming a generic setting name or menu path applies.

3. Enable the supported TPM in UEFI

If the maker confirms that your model supports TPM, check its manual or support page for the correct UEFI setting. Windows may offer a route into firmware settings through its recovery options; availability and menu labels vary by device.

The option may be under Advanced, Security, or Trusted Computing. Depending on the manufacturer and platform, it may be called Security Device, Security Device Support, TPM State, AMD fTPM, AMD PSP fTPM, Intel PTT, or Intel Platform Trust Technology. Use only the setting specified for your model, save the intended change, and restart. Microsoft’s instructions for enabling TPM 2.0 also caution that firmware steps vary by device.

4. Match the exact Windows Security message to its remedy

In Windows Security, open Device security > Security processor details > Security processor troubleshooting to read the reported error and its recommended next step. Microsoft’s TPM troubleshooting guidance maps specific messages to actions:

  • “TPM is disabled and requires attention”: check the model-specific UEFI instructions and enable the supported TPM.
  • A firmware update is needed or firmware is incompatible: check for an applicable update from the PC or motherboard maker.
  • A message asks you to clear the TPM: first understand the effect and confirm you can recover access to protected data and sign-in methods.

5. Install relevant Windows and device firmware updates

When Windows reports a TPM firmware issue, follow Microsoft’s instructions for that specific error. Its TPM firmware guidance describes installing applicable Windows updates and device-maker firmware updates for the specified security issue, followed by clearing the TPM.

6. Clear the TPM only with a reason and recovery plan

Clearing resets the TPM and removes keys stored there. Windows Hello sign-in and data protected by those keys may be affected, so make sure you have the recovery information and alternate sign-in methods needed to regain access before proceeding. Microsoft advises using Windows’ TPM or security processor controls rather than clearing it directly in UEFI.

Do not clear a work or school device without direction from your IT administrator. Microsoft documents clearing as an option for certain TPM initialization or storage problems, not as a routine response to every “not detected” message. See Microsoft Learn’s guidance on clearing the TPM and the TPM troubleshooting page before taking this step.

7. Contact the manufacturer if detection or firmware problems persist

Ask the PC or motherboard maker for model-specific help if Windows still cannot see a supported TPM after you enable the documented setting, if Windows reports firmware incompatibility, or if your firmware menus do not match the published instructions. The manufacturer can advise which settings and updates apply to the device; the available information does not establish a hardware fault or justify a replacement without model-specific diagnosis.

If TPM clearing itself fails with error 0x80290300, Microsoft documents one possible cause: OS-based TPM reset or management options are disabled in BIOS. That explanation applies to this clear-operation error, not to every “TPM Device Not Detected” message. Follow the Microsoft guidance for error 0x80290300 or contact the device maker.
