TP-Link has not confirmed a U.S. Wi‑Fi 8 assembly plant or a domestic-production date. The company announced its Archer 8 platform on May 28, 2026, with an October 2026 launch target, while reporting indicates that new U.S. products still lacked FCC approval and that initial preorders excluded the United States.

What TP-Link actually announced

TP-Link introduced Archer 8 as its first consumer Wi‑Fi 8 router platform on May 28, 2026. The platform is built around the emerging IEEE 802.11bn specification and is aimed at keeping connections stable when many devices, neighboring networks and demanding applications compete for airtime.

The company’s stated priority is consistency rather than a headline speed figure. Jeff Barney, president of TP-Link Systems Inc., said: “But what users actually care about is consistency. Archer 8 is designed to deliver exactly that: lower latency, better performance under interference, and more stable connectivity in real world environments.”

TP-Link’s announcement sets an October 2026 target for Archer 8. A launch target is not the same as guaranteed retail availability in every country, and Wi‑Fi 8 products still depend on final regulatory approvals and production schedules.

Wi‑Fi 8 performance claims, with the proper caveats

TP-Link published the following improvements from controlled internal laboratory testing. They are vendor claims, not independent benchmarks, and the company says results vary with client hardware, interference, the physical environment and network configuration.

Claimed improvement TP-Link’s stated context
Up to 33% higher throughput Enhanced modulation and coding improvements
Up to 24% higher throughput Unequal modulation technologies
Up to 15% higher throughput Communication between multiple access points in interference-heavy conditions
Up to 30% better signal performance Multi-floor, single-device environments
10–20% better signal performance Multi-device environments
1–3 dB higher receive sensitivity 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands

These figures describe potential gains under specified test conditions. They do not mean every phone, laptop or household will see the same percentage increase.

Is TP-Link assembling Wi‑Fi 8 routers in the United States?

The central U.S. manufacturing claim remains unverified. Reporting by Tom’s Hardware said TP-Link had not secured FCC approval for all-new U.S. products and that routers intended for the U.S. are produced in other countries, including Vietnam. The cited reporting does not identify a U.S. assembly facility, a domestic investment announcement or a confirmed 2027 production schedule.

A September 2026 report said global preorders for Archer 8 Ultra opened in the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and other markets, while the United States was left off the launch list. That omission is consistent with the unresolved approval and availability questions, but it is not proof that a U.S. factory is being built.

TP-Link Dual-Band AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 Wireless Gigabit Internet Router for Home | EasyMesh, VPN Clients & Server, HomeShield, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, USB 3.0, Secure by Design - Archer AX55
  • Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
  • A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
  • Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
  • Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
  • Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.

Existing TP-Link products that already have FCC certification may continue to be sold in the United States. That status should not be confused with approval for a new Wi‑Fi 8 model. Before buying a TP-Link Archer 8 Wi‑Fi 8 router, check the exact model’s FCC status and U.S. stock at the time of purchase.

What U.S. buyers should verify before ordering

  • Country-specific sale: Confirm that the exact model is offered for your country, rather than relying on an overseas preorder page.
  • FCC authorization: A new U.S. wireless product needs the applicable authorization before lawful domestic marketing and operation.
  • Power and firmware region: Imported hardware may use a different power plug, channel configuration, warranty and firmware region.
  • Client compatibility: Wi‑Fi 8 benefits require compatible phones, computers, tablets or other client devices. Early adopters may have few compatible endpoints.
  • Wired capacity: A router with a reported 10 Gbps port is useful only if your broadband service, switches, storage or local transfers can take advantage of it.
  • Firmware maturity: First-generation hardware based on an emerging standard can receive substantial firmware changes as interoperability issues are resolved.

Should you wait for Wi‑Fi 8 or buy Wi‑Fi 7?

Buy a Wi‑Fi 7 router now when

  • Your current network has dead zones, congestion or reliability problems that need an immediate fix.
  • Your household has few Wi‑Fi 8-capable devices and most traffic comes from existing phones, laptops and streaming hardware.
  • You need a product with established local certification, retail support and known firmware behavior.

Waiting makes sense when

  • You are planning a network refresh after the Archer 8 launch target and can tolerate uncertain U.S. timing.
  • Your priority is improved consistency in a dense, interference-heavy environment rather than simply replacing an old router.
  • You expect to add Wi‑Fi 8 client devices and can justify the likely early-adopter premium of first-generation hardware.

For either choice, size the system around your internet plan, home layout, wired equipment and client devices. A new wireless standard cannot remove limitations caused by a slow broadband connection, poor access-point placement or non-compatible clients.

What the “as soon as next year” wording means

The phrase suggests a possible future U.S. manufacturing timeline, but the available evidence establishes no such commitment. The confirmed timeline is TP-Link’s October 2026 Archer 8 target, followed by Deco 8 in the first quarter of 2027 and Roam 8 plus extenders and adapters in the second quarter. U.S. assembly, U.S. retail availability and a domestic-production date remain separate questions, and none is confirmed by the cited announcements.
