There is no universal winner among TP-Link, ASUS, NETGEAR, and Eero. The right choice depends more on your home’s layout, the exact router or mesh kit, and the devices you need to connect than on the brand name. Start by deciding whether one access point can cover your home or whether you need mesh, then compare bands, wired ports, backhaul, management, and included services on specific models.
The examples below illustrate different product approaches, not a matched performance ranking. Coverage and speed figures are manufacturers’ claims, not guarantees for your home; results depend on building materials, placement, interference, client devices, and internet service.
Start with coverage: one router or a mesh system?
A single router is usually the simpler fit when one well-placed access point can reach the rooms where you use Wi-Fi. A mesh system uses multiple nodes to extend coverage and can make more sense in a larger or hard-to-cover home. Mesh adds hardware and setup considerations, so it is not automatically an upgrade for every household.
NETGEAR distinguishes its Nighthawk standalone routers from Orbi mesh systems, positioning Nighthawk for a single access point and Orbi for larger homes. That is the manufacturer’s product positioning, not an independent finding about which system performs best: NETGEAR’s router and mesh overview.
#1 Best Overall
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
Among the examples in this comparison, eero 7 can operate as a primary router or as an extender for an existing eero network. TP-Link’s Deco BE9300 and NETGEAR’s Orbi 970 are mesh systems. Choose between these products by comparing the exact kit and the number and placement of nodes, not by treating their brand names as interchangeable categories.

Which Wi-Fi bands and client devices matter?
Compare the bands on the exact router with the Wi-Fi capabilities of your phones, computers, TVs, and smart-home devices. A router’s extra band is useful only when it fits how your devices connect and how the network is deployed.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- 2.4 GHz: NETGEAR describes this band as longer-range and broadly compatible.
- 5 GHz: NETGEAR describes it as faster at closer distances.
- 6 GHz: This newer band is supported by Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices. Check your clients’ specifications before paying for a router feature they cannot use.
The eero 7 example is dual-band, while the Orbi 970 is quad-band. A higher band count does not by itself establish better performance in a particular home. NETGEAR’s descriptions of the bands are available in its tri-band overview.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Do the wired ports and mesh backhaul fit your network?
Count the wired connections you need and check their speeds against your modem, internet plan, and devices. The models here differ: TP-Link lists four 2.5 Gbps ports on the Deco BE9300; eero lists two auto-sensing 2.5 GbE ports on eero 7; NETGEAR advertises 10G ports on Orbi 970. These are model-specific specifications, not characteristics shared by every product from each company.
If you choose mesh, consider whether you can run Ethernet between nodes. Wired backhaul can avoid relying on a wireless link between nodes; TP-Link describes the Deco BE9300 as supporting both wired and wireless backhaul, along with MLO. Confirm support and port availability for every node in the exact kit you plan to buy on the TP-Link product page.

What should you check about setup, security, and subscriptions?
Management and included services vary by model and plan. eero says eero 7 setup and network management require its app; it is also compatible with eero Plus. TP-Link lists HomeShield protection and parental-control features for Deco BE9300, while NETGEAR markets Armor for Orbi 970. Those product descriptions do not establish a complete, current comparison of which features are free, paid, or included in a given region.
Before buying, check the current terms for the exact model and country: which security and parental-control features work without a subscription, which require a paid plan, and whether a service is a trial or ongoing inclusion. Do not assume a feature name means the same service tier across brands.

What is established about ASUS and a brand-wide verdict?
The cited ASUS source lists a router family but does not provide enough model-specific detail to compare ASUS fairly with the Wi-Fi 7 examples above. For an ASUS purchase, select a specific model and compare its official bands, ports, mesh compatibility, management requirements, security features, warranty, and current price against the other exact models you are considering. Without that model-level match, a claim that ASUS—or another brand—is the better value is not established.
