No available evidence establishes a definitive five-year reliability ranking for the Toyota Sequoia. A complaint-record compilation instead identifies 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2018 as Sequoia years with low complaint counts. Treat them as candidates to investigate—not proof that they are the five most reliable. Complaint totals are not failure rates, and other sources using different methods point to different years.
Five years flagged for low complaint counts
The five years below come from a secondary compilation of federal complaint records. They are grouped here because that source identified them as low-complaint years; it did not establish that they outperform every other Sequoia year on owner-reported reliability, repair frequency, or predicted reliability.
| Model year | What the cited evidence supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| 2007 | Listed among low-complaint Sequoia years in a secondary compilation of federal complaint records. | A low failure rate or a better reliability record than every unlisted year. |
| 2008 | Listed among low-complaint Sequoia years in the same complaint-record compilation. | A survey-based reliability rating or a guarantee about an individual vehicle. |
| 2010 | Listed among low-complaint Sequoia years in the same complaint-record compilation. | That complaint totals account for how many vehicles were in use or how often owners reported problems. |
| 2012 | Listed among low-complaint Sequoia years in the same complaint-record compilation. | That it has fewer defects, recalls, or repair costs than all other Sequoia years. |
| 2018 | Listed among low-complaint Sequoia years in the same complaint-record compilation. | A consistent, cross-source ranking of Sequoia model-year reliability. |
Federal complaints are reports, not a census of failures. Their totals can be influenced by the number of vehicles on the road and owners’ likelihood of filing a report. The compilation’s results are therefore a screening clue, not a reliability rate.

Why other sources produce different Sequoia shortlists
Reliability sources measure different things. A questionnaire about problems owners experienced, a federal complaint count, a recall record, and a predicted rating cannot be combined into one ranking without a shared method and comparable data. The years below illustrate why the five complaint-based candidates should not be presented as a settled top five.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Survey-based reliability
Consumer Reports says its reliability history draws on subscriber questionnaires covering 17 potential trouble spots. It also warns that some older or less popular model years may not have enough responses for statistical confidence. A missing or thin result is not evidence that a year is trouble-free. The source’s other year-specific findings should be kept in scope: it reports no detailed reliability data for the 2025 Sequoia and characterizes the 2024 Sequoia as less reliable than other vehicles from the same model year.
Other complaint-based findings
A separate secondary compilation identifies 2006, 2011, and 2014 as the best years within three groupings it inferred. Because the source says those generation boundaries are inferred, and because its measure is not the same as a subscriber survey, those years are not direct replacements for the five low-complaint candidates above. The differing results show why a list should name its measure rather than claim a universal winner.

Recent-year rating
J.D. Power gives the 2025 Sequoia a Quality & Reliability score of 80/100, rated Average. Its page says current-model-year ratings use previous-year data until new consumer survey data becomes available in September. This is a J.D. Power score with that carry-forward qualification, not an all-purpose verdict on Sequoia reliability or a direct comparison with older years.

How to use the shortlist when shopping
- Use model year as an initial filter, not a buying decision. A candidate year’s complaint history cannot reveal whether a particular SUV was maintained, repaired properly, or driven under demanding conditions.
- Check the exact vehicle’s recall status by VIN. Recall campaigns apply to specified vehicles, not automatically to every vehicle carrying a model-year label. Confirm whether applicable repairs were completed; a recall notice covering a year range does not prove that a particular SUV is affected or that its repair is outstanding.
- Review maintenance and repair records. Look for documented servicing and investigate unexplained gaps, recurring repairs, or unresolved warning signs with the seller.
- Arrange an independent inspection. Ask a qualified mechanic to assess the specific vehicle before purchase. A year-level reputation cannot substitute for an inspection of condition and repair needs.
What the evidence can—and cannot—answer
The available evidence supports a complaint-based shortlist of 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2018, plus other candidates identified by a different complaint compilation. It does not support calling any one set the five most reliable Sequoias across all model years. The useful buying question is not just which year appears on a list, but whether the individual SUV has a clean recall and repair picture, credible service history, and sound inspection results.
