Toy Story: Retro Roundup! is worth buying on PS5 if you want a generous slice of Disney-Pixar game history rather than six equally polished classics. The $29.99 digital collection includes 11 console and handheld versions of six games, plus rewind, save states, cheats, Practice Mode and substantial museum material. Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! is the star; Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and the Game Boy versions are the main reasons to temper expectations.
What is included in Toy Story: Retro Roundup?
Atari and Digital Eclipse package six releases from 1995 through 2001, covering 11 console and handheld versions. The PS5 edition supports offline play, one to two players and Remote Play. The collection is scheduled for October 15, 2026, according to the PlayStation Store. Atari lists a $29.99 digital edition and provides a route to preorder the physical edition; physical availability, stock and regional listings should be checked with retailers.
| Game | Original release | Review assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Toy Story | 1995 | Historically important but notoriously difficult |
| Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! | 1999 | Standout; described as one of the best 3D platformers of the 1990s |
| Toy Story 2 | 1999 | Included among the console and handheld versions |
| Buzz Lightyear of Star Command | 2000 | Weakest game in the collection according to the review |
| Toy Story Racer | 2001 | Surprisingly fun, though below Mario Kart 64 and Crash Team Racing |
| A Bug’s Life | 1998 | Enjoyable, with smooth-feeling DualSense play |
The 11-version total combines home-console and handheld editions. The package therefore has more historical breadth than a simple six-game rerelease, but the versions are not equally compelling.
How good are the games?
Toy Story 2 is the essential play
Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! is the collection’s strongest reason to buy. Its 3D platforming remains enjoyable, although its camera takes some adjustment by modern standards. If you only plan to spend a few hours with the set, start here.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The original Toy Story is still hard
The 1995 Toy Story game has a reputation for punishing difficulty, and that has not disappeared with emulation. Repeated failures no longer have to mean repeating entire stretches, however: rewind, save states, cheats and Practice Mode let you learn stages and see more of the game without constant resets.
A Bug’s Life and Toy Story Racer provide pleasant surprises
A Bug’s Life is an enjoyable platformer, and the reviewer found DualSense control smooth. Toy Story Racer is a fun kart racer with its own appeal, even though it does not reach the standard set by Mario Kart 64 or Crash Team Racing.

Two clear weak points
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is identified as the collection’s worst game. The Game Boy ports are also criticized as feeling like a waste of space. Buyers mainly interested in the best-playing versions should concentrate on the console releases, especially Toy Story 2, rather than treating every included build as essential.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsModern features that make the old games easier to finish
- Rewind: reverse a mistake instead of restarting a section.
- Save states: create and reload progress at convenient points beyond the original save design.
- Rex’s Cheat Codes: enable options such as unlimited lives, invincibility, or unlocked characters and levels.
- Practice Mode: make difficult sections safer to learn.
- Enhanced How to Play instructions: clarify controls and objectives that were often poorly explained in 1990s manuals.
These tools do not alter the original games’ underlying design, but they change the practical commitment required to play them. You can use them selectively for accessibility or avoid them for a more authentic challenge.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
What is in the museum and bonus content?
Beyond emulation, the collection includes a virtual museum, rare design documents, vintage development photos, creator interviews and a Music Player containing the soundtracks. That archival material gives the package value after the initial playthrough and helps explain how licensed games were made during the era represented here.
Is the PS5 version worth $29.99?
Push Square’s John Hansen awarded the North American PS5 Standard version 7/10 in 2026, concluding that the nostalgia and modern features provide enough value for the asking price. That recommendation fits fans who want a broad, convenient history of Toy Story games, especially those who appreciate documentary extras and accessibility options.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The value is less convincing if you expect a uniformly strong anthology. One poor title and several underwhelming handheld ports occupy part of the bundle, so the purchase makes most sense when Toy Story 2, Toy Story Racer, the original game’s historical interest, or the archival content matters to you.

- Buy it: if you are a Toy Story fan, enjoy retro collections, or want rewind, saves, cheats and practice tools for difficult older games.
- Consider waiting: if you only want handheld versions, demand modern camera design throughout, or expect every game to be a hidden classic.
- Start with: Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!, then try Toy Story Racer and A Bug’s Life before exploring the weaker entries.
The collection’s final shape is an uneven but thoughtfully presented toy box: its best games, quality-of-life features and archival extras outweigh the filler for the right audience, while selective players should focus on the console releases rather than the 11-version count alone.
