For the clearest image, open the collection utility menu by pressing the right stick inward, choose a clean or upscaled filter, and use the aspect option that does not visibly stretch the original artwork. Choose CRT Curved only when you want a softer, scanline-style television look. In the Switch 2 dock settings, set HDR to Compatible Software Only and leave resolution on Automatic unless you have a specific reason to select 1080p, 1440p, or 4K.
Controls are customizable, but there is no single layout that suits every game in this mixed collection. Start with the defaults, test them in How to Play and Practice Mode, then remap only the actions that cause discomfort. Rewind and Rex’s Cheat Codes can reduce the frustration of older games without changing the display presentation.
What you are configuring
Disney/Pixar Toy Story: Retro Roundup! is a Nintendo Switch 2 collection from Digital Eclipse and Atari. The North American release date is October 15, 2026, and the listed price is $29.99. The product listing describes five classic games represented in 11 console and handheld versions, while naming six entries: Toy Story, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!, Toy Story 2, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Toy Story Racer, and A Bug’s Life. Because the listing’s “five games” wording and its six named entries do not align, treat the 11-version figure as the authoritative scope rather than assuming every named entry is a separate modern release.
Alongside the original software, the collection adds Rewind, Rex’s Cheat Codes, Practice Mode, interviews, a virtual museum, and a music player. Those additions matter when you are deciding whether to preserve an authentic presentation or make a difficult section easier: the picture options affect appearance, while the assistance tools affect play.

Open the collection’s picture and control menu
- Launch the collection and start any game.
- Press the right control stick inward (R3). This opens the collection utility menu.
- Use the menu’s display section to change widescreen or fullscreen presentation, background borders, and filters.
- Use its controls section to inspect or remap actions.
- Use save, load, reset, or resume from the same utility area when you need to manage a session.
Settings are exposed through the collection overlay rather than a separate Switch 2 system app. If you change a filter while playing, return to the game and judge it on the display and viewing distance you actually use; a setting that looks sharp on the handheld screen can look harsh on a large television.
Choose the right in-game picture filter
Clean or upscaled: best for readability
Use the clean or upscaled presentation when you want crisp sprite edges, legible text, and the least visual interference from scanlines. It is the practical default for learning a level, reading menus, or playing on a small handheld screen where every pixel occupies a larger portion of your view. It also makes it easier to spot small hazards in platforming games and judge the road or track in the racer.
CRT Curved: best for a retro-TV appearance
CRT Curved is the nostalgia option. Digital Eclipse’s Stephen Frost demonstrated this filter at Gamescom, and the collection menu includes it among the available display treatments. It adds a curved-screen character and softer scanline-style presentation. Choose it when recreating the look of a period television is more important than maximum edge sharpness.
The filter does not restore the physical behavior of a particular television, room lighting, or viewing distance. If text becomes difficult to read, switch back to clean or upscaled rather than raising television sharpness, which can create halos around already processed pixels.
Widescreen, fullscreen, and image proportions
Try the widescreen option only if the game’s original artwork still looks proportionate on your display. A widened image can make characters, circles, and level geometry appear unnaturally broad when the original software was designed for a narrower frame. If you see stretching, return to fullscreen or the less-distorting option presented by the collection.

Judge proportions using familiar shapes: a circular object should remain circular, and a character’s body should not look wider than it does in the game’s artwork. The best choice can vary by title and by the aspect ratio of your television, so there is no universal widescreen setting for every included version.
Background borders
Background borders fill unused space around games that do not occupy the entire modern display. Keep them enabled if a black or empty surround distracts you, or disable them for a more minimal presentation. Borders do not increase the game’s internal resolution; they only change what surrounds the play area.

Recommended Switch 2 docked-TV settings
The collection’s filter is only one part of the final picture. Switch 2 output settings determine how the console negotiates HDR, resolution, refresh rate, and color range with the television or receiver.
Set HDR to Compatible Software Only
- From the Switch 2 HOME menu, open System Settings.
- Open the display or TV-output section.
- Set HDR to Compatible Software Only.
This mode prevents non-HDR software from being forced through an HDR conversion that can shift colors or make blacks and highlights look wrong. Toy Story: Retro Roundup! is retro software, so this is the safer starting point unless your display setup has a specific, tested reason to use another HDR mode.
Leave resolution on Automatic first
Automatic resolution is the safest general choice because the console selects an output that the connected television and dock can negotiate. Manual choices are useful when troubleshooting a handshake problem or when you deliberately want a particular refresh-rate combination.

| Output choice | What the Switch 2 guidance establishes | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic | Safest general setting for normal docked use | Start here; it avoids unnecessary compatibility assumptions |
| 1080p | Can permit 120Hz output | Useful for a 1080p television or when prioritizing a high-refresh signal |
| 1440p | Can permit 120Hz output | Useful for a compatible 1440p display that handles the signal correctly |
| 4K | Limited to 60Hz on the system | Use for a 4K television when 4K detail matters more than 120Hz |
The game itself is a retro collection, so selecting 4K does not turn its original assets into native 4K artwork. It can still give a 4K television a clean input signal, but the collection’s internal filter and the display’s scaling determine how sharp the game looks.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Match RGB range
RGB range must agree between the console and television. If one device expects a limited range and the other expects full range, blacks can look gray or shadow detail can disappear. Set the Switch 2 and the TV to matching automatic, limited, or full-range behavior according to the labels available on your equipment. If dark areas look lifted or crushed after changing a range setting, restore the previous matching pair rather than compensating with brightness.
Use ALLM only when your television supports it correctly
ALLM, or Auto Low Latency Mode, lets a compatible television switch into its low-latency game mode automatically. Enable it when your TV handles the signal reliably and you want automatic game-mode switching. Disable it if the television changes picture presets unexpectedly or if you prefer to control the picture mode manually.
Decide whether 120Hz is worthwhile
Switch 2 output at 1080p or 1440p can permit 120Hz, while 4K is limited to 60Hz. A higher output refresh rate does not make these older games run at 120 frames per second; it changes the console-to-display signal. Use 120Hz if your television supports it and you prefer the way it handles motion or input, but do not sacrifice a stable compatible signal merely to select the larger number.
Control setup that works across different games
The package spans platformers, a PS1-era racer, and handheld versions. Their demands differ: a platformer needs comfortable jump and attack reach, a racer needs camera and steering control, and handheld versions may place menus and actions differently. That is why a universal “best” layout is unlikely.

Start with the default layout
Play the opening section with the default controls before changing anything. Defaults are the reference point for the collection’s How to Play material, and changing several buttons at once makes it difficult to identify which action caused a problem.
Remap one friction point at a time
- Open the utility menu with R3 and select the controls-customization option.
- Choose the specific game or version you are playing.
- Identify the action that feels awkward, such as jump, attack, accelerate, brake, or camera movement.
- Move that action to a button or trigger you can reach without releasing the direction or camera control.
- Test the new assignment in Practice Mode or a safe section.
- Keep the change only if it improves reach, comfort, or consistency; otherwise restore the default.
Prioritize the action used under pressure. In a platformer, jump and attack should be reachable while your thumb remains ready for movement. In the racer, steering and acceleration should not require an uncomfortable hand shift. Menu or camera actions can remain on less accessible buttons if they are used infrequently.
Use How to Play and Practice Mode as a test bench
How to Play explains the version-specific actions, while Practice Mode lets you repeat a movement without risking a full run. Test a remap with the same sequence that caused trouble: a jump near an enemy, an attack while changing direction, or a turn that requires simultaneous steering and acceleration. A layout that feels good in a static menu may fail when two inputs are needed together.
Keep separate expectations for handheld and docked play
Handheld play puts the controls and screen closer together, which can make a soft CRT filter or small text easier to inspect. Docked play gives you a larger image but may expose stretching, oversharpening, or a TV’s incorrect RGB range more clearly. If you move between modes, recheck the filter and aspect presentation rather than assuming the same choice will look identical.

Use the collection’s assistance tools deliberately
Rewind
The review reports that holding L2 and R2 together activates rewind. Use it immediately after a missed jump, hit, or turn, then release and try the sequence again. Rewind is most useful for correcting a single mistake without replaying an entire stage. Because trigger labels can differ by controller, confirm the on-screen prompt or the collection’s control explanation if your pad labels these inputs differently.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Practice Mode
Practice Mode is the best first response to an unfamiliar mechanic or difficult section. Learn the timing there, then return to the normal game when you can perform the sequence consistently. This preserves the original challenge while removing repetition during the learning phase.
Rex’s Cheat Codes
Rex’s Cheat Codes provide another way to smooth older difficulty. Use them when the goal is to explore the collection, museum material, or later stages rather than prove a no-assistance run. Decide before starting a session whether you are pursuing an authentic challenge or a relaxed tour, so you do not have to redesign your controls and expectations midway through a level.
Save files
Nintendo Everything reports three save files per game. Use one file for a normal run, another for experimentation with cheats or remaps, and a third for a section you want to revisit. This is especially useful when comparing display settings or testing a control layout without overwriting progress.

Picture profiles for common setups
| Situation | Collection settings | Switch 2 settings | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large 4K television, readability first | Clean or upscaled; use the least-stretched aspect option; borders to taste | HDR Compatible Software Only; resolution Automatic or 4K; matching RGB range | Preserves crisp edges and avoids HDR color shifts |
| Retro-TV atmosphere | CRT Curved; choose the aspect option that preserves proportions | HDR Compatible Software Only; resolution Automatic | Lets the collection’s filter provide the character without forcing non-HDR output |
| 1080p or 1440p high-refresh display | Clean or upscaled for small details | HDR Compatible Software Only; 1080p or 1440p if 120Hz is desired; ALLM if reliable | Uses the output modes that can permit 120Hz |
| Handheld play | Start with clean or upscaled; test CRT Curved at your normal brightness | Dock settings do not apply | Small text and sprites generally benefit from a clear image |
What performance to expect
A Nintendo Everything review posted October 14, 2026 stated: “I experienced no gameplay lag, frame drops, glitches, or other technical issues.” The reviewer also said handheld and docked play flowed equally well in those sessions. That is a dated review observation, not a guarantee for every console, television, controller, or firmware combination.
The same review noted that some original camera problems remain. A display filter or control remap cannot correct camera behavior built into the original game. If a camera feels awkward, first determine whether the issue is an inherited design limitation or a remappable control; use Practice Mode and Rewind for the former, and remapping for the latter.
Troubleshoot a picture or control problem
The image looks stretched
- Open the utility menu with R3.
- Switch from widescreen to fullscreen or the alternative aspect option.
- Check a circular object or character proportions again.
- If the television also has a zoom or aspect control, return it to a neutral setting.
Colors look washed out or too dark
- Set HDR to Compatible Software Only.
- Verify that RGB range matches between Switch 2 and the television.
- Disable any television picture preset that aggressively remaps HDR or contrast.
- Retest with the collection’s clean filter before changing brightness or contrast.
The CRT Curved filter is hard to read
- Switch to clean or upscaled.
- Keep the aspect option that preserves the original proportions.
- Move closer in handheld mode or use a less aggressive television sharpness setting in docked mode.
A remapped button feels worse
- Return to the utility menu and restore the default assignment.
- Change only one action at a time.
- Test the action in Practice Mode using the sequence that originally caused difficulty.
The display will not show the selected resolution or refresh rate
- Return resolution to Automatic.
- Confirm that the television, receiver, and cable support the selected 1080p, 1440p, or 4K mode.
- Remember that 4K output is limited to 60Hz, while 1080p and 1440p can permit 120Hz.
- Enable ALLM only after the basic signal is stable.
A practical default configuration
If you want one starting point, use clean or upscaled, the least-distorting aspect option, and borders according to your preference. Set HDR to Compatible Software Only, leave resolution on Automatic, and make sure RGB range matches the television. Keep ALLM enabled only if it behaves correctly, and consider 120Hz only on a compatible 1080p or 1440p display. Play with the default controls, then remap a single uncomfortable action and verify it in Practice Mode. Use Rewind for isolated mistakes and reserve Rex’s Cheat Codes for a session where relaxed exploration is the goal.
