There is no verified performance winner between the two releases. Nintendo sells a Switch 2-only product and a separate Nintendo Switch product that also works on Switch 2 with behavior Nintendo describes as consistent with the Switch version. Both include the New Classic presentation and the original-style Classic mode, but their save data and additional content are not interchangeable. Choose the Switch 2 listing only if you need the Switch 2 product; choose the Nintendo Switch listing if compatibility with either console matters more than a separate Switch 2 edition.
What the two listings actually are
Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic is not one product with a console toggle. Nintendo lists two separate products, and the compatibility wording is important when deciding which one to buy.

The practical distinction is ownership, not a documented feature split. The Switch 2 product is locked to the newer console. The Nintendo Switch product is the more flexible purchase if you want to use the same product on an original Switch and a Switch 2, but Nintendo does not describe it as a separate Switch 2-enhanced edition.

Nintendo’s descriptions establish that both editions use the New Classic presentation, including upgraded high-resolution visuals. They do not publish a frame-rate target, output-resolution table, loading-time measurement, or a side-by-side benchmark comparing the products.

Is the Switch 2 version sharper?
That cannot be confirmed from the published specifications. The phrase upgraded high-resolution visuals applies to the New Classic presentation in both listings, but it does not state a pixel count, rendering resolution, texture specification, anti-aliasing method, or a Switch-versus-Switch 2 image comparison. A larger number on the newer console may be technically possible, yet there is no verified figure that allows a factual claim that the Switch 2 product is sharper.
Is the Switch 2 version faster?
There is also no verified answer for frame rate or loading speed. Official product information supplies no target such as 30 or 60 frames per second and no measured load times. Without an official technical table or reproducible independent testing, calling one edition faster would turn an open question into an unsupported specification.
What Nintendo does say about behavior
Nintendo marks the Nintendo Switch edition as supported on Switch 2 and describes its game behavior as consistent with Nintendo Switch. That wording is useful for compatibility planning: it does not promise a separate Switch 2 performance profile, resolution boost, or faster loading for the older-console product.
How to interpret future tests
If technical testing becomes available, compare the same stage, display mode, game settings, and software update on both products. A useful test would report frame-rate consistency during busy scenes, output resolution, loading duration, and whether each result is measured from the Switch 2 product or the Nintendo Switch product running on Switch 2. Until those conditions are documented, the responsible conclusion is that performance differences are unestablished.

Classic mode preserves the original 2002 gameplay. It is present in both products, giving players a way to use the original-style rules instead of the New Classic presentation. Play modes and save-cloud support

A save created with the Nintendo Switch product cannot be assumed to open in the Switch 2 product. Even if both are installed on the same Switch 2 console, the official compatibility statement rules out treating their saves as interchangeable. Plan to begin a separate progression file if you change products.

Moving from the Switch 2 edition to the Nintendo Switch edition
The restriction works in the opposite direction as well. A Switch 2-product save and its additional content are not compatible with the Nintendo Switch product. Cloud backup does not remove this product-to-product boundary; cloud support protects data for the supported product, not cross-edition conversion.
What this means before purchase
- Check which listing you are buying before starting a long playthrough.
- Do not buy the other product expecting an upgrade path for an existing save.
- Keep the original product installed if you want to retain access to its progression or additional content.

What the Deluxe Edition adds
The Deluxe Edition adds the Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic Soundtrack Player. This is an application containing over 30 tracks from the New Classic and Classic versions.
The soundtrack player is the material difference identified for Deluxe. The available description does not state extra stages, characters, gameplay modes, visual assets, or save-transfer rights, so Deluxe should not be treated as a gameplay expansion or as a bridge between the two console products. This establishes that the update is cross-platform in scope, but the notice alone does not provide a frame-rate target, resolution specification, loading measurement, or a cross-edition performance comparison.

When troubleshooting, first confirm that the game has installed the current update offered for your platform. Do not use the existence of version 1.0.6 as evidence that the two Nintendo products share saves or identical technical settings; the official compatibility and performance statements remain separate questions.
Which version should you buy?
Choose the Switch 2 edition when
- You own a Nintendo Switch 2 and specifically want the product listed for that console.
- You are starting fresh and do not need to continue a save from the Nintendo Switch product.
- You want the listing whose metadata explicitly documents TV, tabletop, handheld, single-system play, and Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud support.
- You accept that this product cannot be played on an original Nintendo Switch.
Choose the Nintendo Switch edition when
- You still use an original Nintendo Switch and need a product that is supported there.
- You want the same purchase to remain usable on Nintendo Switch 2, with behavior Nintendo describes as consistent with Nintendo Switch.
- You already own progress in the Nintendo Switch product and want to keep that product rather than begin again with the Switch 2 listing.

Choose Deluxe when the soundtrack matters
Select Deluxe if the included Soundtrack Player and its collection of over 30 New Classic and Classic tracks are valuable to you. Choose the standard edition if you only need the game and do not want the extra application. The soundtrack addition does not establish extra gameplay content or cross-version save compatibility.
A practical decision process

- Check your existing save. If you have progress in one Nintendo product, remain with that product unless you are willing to start a separate file.

- Ignore unverified performance promises. No official source in the available specifications separates frame rate, output resolution, or loading times.
- Pick the content tier. Add Deluxe only if the Soundtrack Player with over 30 tracks is part of your plan.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming Switch 2 compatibility means an automatic upgrade
The Nintendo Switch product running on Switch 2 is not the same product as the Switch 2 edition. Compatibility lets the Nintendo Switch listing run on the newer console; it does not establish a separate Switch 2 presentation, a performance boost, or a transfer of the other product’s data.
Expecting cloud backup to merge editions

Reading high-resolution visuals as a numerical promise
High-resolution is a descriptive label, not a published output specification. Without a resolution table or controlled measurement, do not rely on claims that one listing is sharper, cleaner, or faster.
Buying Deluxe for unlisted gameplay extras
The confirmed Deluxe addition is the Soundtrack Player. No official description supplied here lists new stages, modes, or characters as part of Deluxe, so make the purchase for the music application rather than assumed gameplay additions.
Bottom line for Switch 2 owners and Switch owners
The two releases share the core New Classic package: upgraded high-resolution visuals, ZUN-arranged BGM, unlimited lives, and a Classic mode preserving the 2002 gameplay. The decisive differences are product compatibility and data separation. Switch 2’s listing is exclusive to Switch 2; Nintendo’s Switch listing also works on Switch 2 with Switch-consistent behavior, but neither product accepts the other’s saves or additional content.
