Touch Grass Sports AI turns a few choices—fitness level, sport, available time, and location—into an outdoor sports challenge. Its author describes two ways to generate one: use a local language model through Ollama, or choose a rule-based mode that does not require an AI model. The project is presented as offline software, but its privacy, safety, and performance claims have not been independently verified.
What Touch Grass Sports AI does
The project is an open-source challenge generator, not a fitness tracker or training plan. You provide activity constraints, and it proposes a concrete challenge intended to get you outside and include a “touch grass” moment. The author lists running, basketball, cycling, yoga, swimming, climbing, parkour, volleyball, tennis, skateboarding, martial arts, and hiking, among other activities. This is the author’s stated scope, not an independently tested list of compatible sports.
The project write-up describes a Gradio web interface and a command-line interface. It also says the tool supports English and Indonesian. The write-up does not provide localization tests or demonstrate how well the generated suggestions fit a particular location or ability.
Choose between the local model and rule-based mode

The author says prompts are designed to keep model-generated challenges outdoors and include a touch-grass action. That describes the intended behavior; it does not establish that every suggestion will follow those constraints.

What “offline” means here—and what is not verified
The author claims the application runs completely offline and that no data leaves the device. The project write-up does not include an independent network-traffic test or privacy audit, so treat those statements as the author’s claims rather than verified guarantees. It also does not give hardware requirements or performance benchmarks, which means you cannot determine from the write-up alone whether a particular computer will run a selected model smoothly.
Use generated challenges with judgment
A generated activity is a suggestion, not an assessment of your health, surroundings, or skill. Check the proposed activity against your ability, the available space, weather, and local conditions before attempting it. The write-up does not establish that challenges are safe for every user, reliably adapt to every location or ability, or improve fitness.
