Built In’s 43 Top Tech Companies in Toronto to Know, updated October 9, 2026, is best read as an employer-discovery directory—not a ranked league table. It brings together technology employers connected with Toronto across payments, cybersecurity, semiconductors, smart-home hardware, healthcare technology, hospitality software and enterprise services.
The practical value is breadth: you can use the roundup to find employers that match your field, then verify each company’s Toronto location, current openings and role details on the employer’s own website before applying. Inclusion in the roundup does not establish that a company is headquartered in Toronto, and a hiring label is only a time-sensitive snapshot.
What the 43-company Toronto tech list actually tells you
The headline uses “top,” but the article does not publish a scoring system, ranking criteria or a first-to-last order based on measured performance. Treat all 43 entries as companies selected for discovery, not as a verified ranking of the best employers, fastest growers or highest-paying workplaces.
Its scope is deliberately wide. Rather than limiting the list to software startups, the roundup includes financial technology, payment services, cybersecurity, semiconductor design, connected-home devices, healthcare technology, hospitality software and enterprise-focused businesses. That mix reflects the range of technology work available in the Toronto market: product engineering is only one path; security, data, hardware, clinical systems, sales engineering, implementation and operations also appear in the ecosystem.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The connection to Toronto varies by profile. A company may have a local office, a regional hub or another stated presence while being headquartered elsewhere. Read the location wording in each profile literally. “Toronto office” is not the same claim as “Toronto headquarters,” and neither tells you whether a particular team works remotely or from a specific neighbourhood.
Built In also marks hiring for selected profiles. Those labels can change as requisitions close, move or reopen, so they should prompt a check of the employer’s live careers page rather than serve as proof that a role is still available.
Examples of companies and technology areas represented
The roundup’s examples show why a single job-search strategy will not fit every entry. The table below uses the companies visible in the source as orientation points; it is not a ranking and does not imply that the companies share the same Toronto footprint or hiring status.

| Company named in the roundup | Technology area signaled by the roundup’s examples | How to use the entry |
|---|---|---|
| Cash App | Payments and financial technology | Look for product, risk, payments, support and platform roles, then check which functions are attached to Toronto. |
| Toast | Hospitality software | Useful for exploring software used by restaurants and related implementation, customer-success and engineering work. |
| Morningstar | Financial information and enterprise technology | Check whether a local opening is in data, research systems, software, client services or another function. |
| Cloudflare | Internet infrastructure and cybersecurity | Separate security, networking, reliability and commercial roles; the local office may not host every function. |
| Ecobee | Smart-home hardware and connected devices | Consider embedded, hardware, firmware, mobile, cloud and support disciplines rather than treating it as only a thermostat company. |
| Think Research | Healthcare technology | Review roles that combine software with clinical workflows, implementation, data or regulated operations. |
| Arm | Semiconductor technology | Search for architecture, verification, tools, systems and developer-facing work, and confirm which teams are local. |
| Mastercard | Payments and financial technology | Check opportunities in payment networks, fraud, data, security, product and partner programs. |
Ecobee’s profile specifically describes smart-home products including thermostats, cameras, sensors and air filters. That is a company-profile detail, not a recommendation to buy a device and not evidence that every product or team is based in Toronto.
How to choose companies from the roundup
Start with the work you want to do, then use the list to generate targets. A company’s brand recognition alone is a weak filter; the relevant question is whether its Toronto-linked teams hire for your skills and preferred working arrangement.
1. Match the sector to your career direction
- Payments and fintech: Investigate product management, risk, fraud analytics, compliance technology, backend systems and partner operations.
- Cybersecurity and infrastructure: Look for security engineering, network operations, reliability, identity, threat research and technical customer roles.
- Semiconductors and hardware: Search for chip architecture, verification, embedded software, firmware, electrical engineering, test and developer tools.
- Healthcare technology: Consider software engineering alongside clinical workflow, implementation, data quality, privacy and regulated-process roles.
- Hospitality and enterprise software: Review application development, integrations, onboarding, customer success, sales engineering and support operations.
- Smart-home and connected products: Include device engineering, mobile apps, cloud services, industrial design, manufacturing coordination and technical support.
2. Decide what “Toronto” must mean for you
Define your geographic requirement before opening applications. You may need a downtown office, a Greater Toronto Area location, occasional travel, or a fully remote role tied to a Canadian legal entity. The roundup may identify a Toronto presence without specifying the neighbourhood, team assignment or attendance policy. The employer’s location and job pages are the authority for those details.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
3. Filter by company stage and operating model
The entries span different kinds of organizations, from large international technology businesses to more specialized companies. A larger employer may offer many job families and internal mobility but place a local employee on a global team. A focused company may provide closer product ownership while offering fewer openings. The roundup does not standardize company size, growth rate, compensation or culture, so do not infer those attributes from inclusion.

A verification workflow before you apply
Use the roundup as the first pass, then perform the following checks for every company that survives your initial filter.
- Open the company’s official careers page. Search by Toronto and by Canada, because a role can be tagged to a legal entity or region rather than the city name.
- Confirm the posting is live. Record the requisition title, team, posting date if shown, closing date if shown and application link. Do not rely on a “hiring” badge in a directory.
- Check the work location and attendance rule. Read the exact wording for Toronto, hybrid, remote, travel and office days. A city label can describe a hiring entity rather than your daily workplace.
- Read eligibility and work-authorization requirements. Confirm whether the employer accepts applicants already authorized to work in Canada, sponsors permits, or limits the role to a particular province.
- Map the job to your evidence. Copy the required technologies, domain knowledge and years of experience into a checklist. Tailor your résumé to the three or four requirements that are genuinely demonstrated by your projects.
- Check the team’s product context. A “software engineer” title can mean payments, device firmware, clinical systems, infrastructure or internal tools. Understanding the product helps you ask useful interview questions.
- Save a dated record. Hiring pages change. Keep the URL, title and date you verified so you can distinguish a closed requisition from a newly opened one.
How to read hiring signals without over-interpreting them
A hiring indicator answers only one narrow question: the directory showed some recruiting activity when its profile was published or updated. It does not establish the number of open roles, the probability of an offer, salary, interview speed or whether the opening is in Toronto.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Use a three-level confidence system when organizing your search:
- Confirmed for your search: An official employer posting names the role, location and eligibility requirements you need.
- Promising lead: The roundup identifies the company or a hiring signal, but the employer page needs checking or does not yet show a matching position.
- Research only: The company fits your sector interests, but no current local role is visible. Follow the employer’s talent alerts instead of assuming a vacancy.
This approach prevents a common mistake: treating a static directory entry as a live job board. It also helps when a company recruits continuously through talent pools rather than advertising every future opening.

- Which product or business unit is based in Toronto?
- Is the role employed by a Canadian entity, and where is the reporting manager located?
- How many days are expected in the office, and can that policy change?
- Does the local team own production systems, or does it collaborate with a team in another country?
- What opportunities exist to move between engineering, product, data, security or customer-facing functions?
- Are on-call rotations, travel or client-site visits part of the role?
These questions reveal the practical difference between a substantial engineering hub, a sales office and a small satellite team—information a broad employer roundup cannot standardize.
Strengths and limits of the Built In roundup
What it does well
- It gathers 43 Toronto-connected technology employers in one discovery pass.
- It exposes readers to sectors beyond conventional software startups.
- Short descriptions help you identify which entries deserve deeper research.
- Selected hiring labels can surface companies you might otherwise miss.
What it does not establish
- There is no published ranking method or objective “top” score.
- It is not a compensation, benefits, culture or employee-review comparison.
- Company inclusion does not prove Toronto headquarters or a specific team location.
- Hiring labels, job counts, local presence and product descriptions can become outdated.
- The roundup is not an independent verification of every company’s current operations.
Use those limits to set the right expectation: the article is a map, while each employer’s own careers, location and legal-entity information supplies the directions.
A practical shortlist template
Create a spreadsheet with one row per company you want to investigate. These columns keep your decisions comparable without pretending the roundup provides a ranking:
| Column | What to record |
|---|---|
| Sector and product | The business area and the product or service relevant to your interests. |
| Toronto connection | Headquarters, office, hub or other wording used by the employer; quote the exact location description in your notes. |
| Live role | Current title, requisition number and official posting date. |
| Work model | On-site, hybrid or remote terms, including required office frequency. |
| Fit evidence | Your projects, technologies, domain experience and measurable outcomes that match the posting. |
| Open questions | Team ownership, reporting location, authorization, travel, on-call and interview format. |
| Verification date | The date you last checked the official source. |
Prioritize applications where the role, location and eligibility are all confirmed. Keep promising leads in a separate watchlist so a closed posting does not consume the same attention as a live opportunity.
Bottom line for job seekers
The 43-company Toronto roundup is a broad starting point for discovering technology employers, not a definitive ranking or a live inventory of jobs. Its strongest use is helping you expand beyond one sector, identify companies worth investigating and build a targeted shortlist. Verify every material detail—especially Toronto location, work model and hiring status—on the employer’s current pages before you apply or describe a company as actively hiring.
