On October 13, 2026, a LiveMint article attributed three near-term futures trade ideas to Jay Thakkar of ICICI Securities: Mahindra & Mahindra, Shree Cement and Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company. The article reported an entry range, stop level and two targets for each. These are dated levels, not confirmed active trades or current recommendations; the available information does not establish whether any entry, stop or target was reached.

The three futures calls reported on October 13

The following levels and rationales are those reported by LiveMint on October 13, 2026. They are futures levels, not share-price targets. The article did not provide contract sizes, a quantified risk comparison, or evidence that the trades were executed.

Underlying futures Reported entry range Reported stop Reported targets Rationale given in the article
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) ₹2,850–₹2,870 Below ₹2,780 ₹3,000 and ₹3,070 Higher tops and bottoms on daily charts; declining open interest interpreted as short covering after eight consecutive negative weeks. The article also cited a call base at the 2,850 strike and max pain at 2,900.
Shree Cement ₹22,100–₹22,150 Below ₹21,000 ₹23,500 and ₹24,000 Some short additions during the decline, followed by consolidation and short covering. The article cited the 22,000 strike as the highest call base and the max-pain level, and treated a close above it as support for a short-term reversal.
Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company (Chola Finance) ₹1,610–₹1,630 Below ₹1,575 ₹1,685 and ₹1,720 Higher tops and bottoms with rising open interest after long unwinding. The article cited put additions from 1,540–1,620 and the highest call base at the 1,700 strike.

The technical and derivatives observations in the final column are the article’s interpretations, not independently validated signals. A stop stated as “below” a level does not specify an exact execution price or guarantee that a position can be exited there.

What the market backdrop was that day

LiveMint reported that on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Nifty 50 closed at 22,721.95, up 1.6%, and the BSE Sensex closed at 73,033.78, up 1.54%. It also reported a 5.2% rise in the Nifty IT index and the rupee strengthening to 95.28 per US dollar. The article linked the rally to HCLTech’s results and RBI measures intended to ease pressure on the rupee. These are figures and context as reported by LiveMint, not independently confirmed exchange or central-bank data here.

The article’s additional Nifty derivatives commentary described short-term support at 22,300, possible upside levels of 23,000 and 23,200, a PCR of 1.38 for the next weekly expiry, put writing at 22,500, and the highest call open interest at 23,000. It reported a futures premium of around 140 points versus around 30 previously, and India VIX at around 14 after a fall of more than 7%. The article said the short-term bias would likely remain positive while VIX stayed below 16. All of these are dated readings and analyst interpretations, not present-day market conditions.

Were the futures calls still actionable?

The available same-day observations do not establish that. A LiveMint snapshot showed Cholamandalam’s share price at ₹1,588.00 at 13:12 IST on October 13, before the article’s stated publication time of 5:36 PM IST. That share-price observation is not a futures settlement or evidence of a later trade execution. A Choice India result displayed a Cholamandalam futures price of 1,619 for October 13, but did not establish the observation time or confirm the status of all three calls.

Rank #2

No reliable same-day status for all three contracts was established. The available information does not show whether a stop or target was hit, or whether entry remained possible at the relevant time. Treat the levels as a record of what the article reported on October 13, not as live quotes or proof that a trade remains open. Anyone checking current status needs current exchange prices and contract details for each underlying.

What to check before acting on a futures idea

  • Confirm the contract and quote: identify the correct underlying, expiry and current futures price through a reliable market-data source. The reported levels alone do not identify contract size or prove a current entry opportunity.
  • Understand the stop and exposure: the article gives stop levels but no quantified loss estimate, position sizing or slippage assumptions. Futures exposure and potential loss depend on contract specifications and execution.
  • Reassess the dated rationale: chart patterns, open interest and option-strike positioning can change. The October 13 interpretations should not be assumed to describe later sessions.
  • Consider suitability: the article does not assess any individual reader’s objectives, experience or financial circumstances. It characterizes its material as educational and advises consulting certified experts before investment decisions.
