1. BlueStacks 5: best overall

BlueStacks 5 is the best default recommendation for readers who want to play Android games, install ordinary Android apps, and avoid choosing a narrowly focused tool. The current 5.22 release line supports Android Pie, Android 11, and Android 13 instance types. Its Multi-instance Manager lets you create separate Android environments when an app requires a particular Android version.

For gaming, BlueStacks includes keyboard and mouse mapping, gamepad support, frame-rate controls, high-frame-rate options, VSync, and per-instance graphics settings. The settings menu is unusually complete: Performance, Display, Graphics, Game settings, Devices, Gamepad, Preferences, Phone, Shortcuts, User data, Advanced, and About.

Useful BlueStacks paths

  • Open settings with the gear icon on the side toolbar or the hamburger menu in the upper-right corner.
  • Change CPU cores, RAM, performance mode, frame rate, high frame rate, VSync, and the FPS display under Settings > Performance.
  • Change the renderer under Settings > Graphics. Supported instances may offer Vulkan & OpenGL or OpenGL Only.
  • Change the emulated handset and mobile-network provider under Settings > Phone.
  • Enable ADB and inspect ABI information under Settings > Advanced.

Click Save changes after editing settings. Graphics changes generally require a restart. If a game reports that the device is unsupported, create an instance with the Android version it requires rather than automatically choosing the newest image.

2. LDPlayer 9: best Hyper-V-compatible gaming option

LDPlayer 9 is a good fit for high-frame-rate games and Windows PCs that also use WSL, Docker, or other virtualization features. Its 2026 Hyper-V-compatible release means the old blanket advice—“LDPlayer cannot run with Hyper-V enabled”—is no longer accurate.

LDPlayer says its compatible version can run while Hyper-V is enabled. It also notes that disabling Hyper-V can still produce better performance in demanding games and multi-instance workloads. That makes LDPlayer a practical compromise: keep Hyper-V enabled if your development or virtualization tools need it, then test performance before changing Windows features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The current version history lists LDPlayer 9.5.15.1, dated May 26, 2026. As with any emulator, enable Intel VT-x, AMD-V, or SVM in firmware first. Check Task Manager > Performance > CPU and confirm that Virtualization says Enabled.

3. MEmu Play: best for flexible multi-instance setups

MEmu Play is aimed heavily at gaming and supports multiple Android instances. Its main advantage is the amount of control exposed in the graphics engine. Open Settings > Engine to adjust CPU allocation, RAM allocation, performance mode, and rendering mode.

MEmu supports three rendering options:

  • DirectX: the recommended starting point when stability matters.
  • OpenGL: may deliver better FPS on some graphics hardware.
  • Vulkan: worth testing on a modern GPU, particularly if the other renderers produce glitches or poor performance.

MEmu’s minimum requirements are modest—two CPU cores, Windows 7 or later, DirectX 11, OpenGL 2.0, virtualization enabled, 2 GB of RAM, and 5 GB of free storage—but those figures are not sensible targets for modern 3D games. Its stability guidance suggests roughly 2–4 CPU cores and 4–8 GB of RAM per instance, while warning against assigning every available system resource.

4. MuMuPlayer: best newer-Android option

MuMuPlayer deserves attention when a game or app needs a newer Android environment. The current Windows download page lists MuMuPlayer V5.31.3, updated June 17, 2026, and the current regional product site advertises Android 15 support. However, MuMu’s international requirements documentation still describes Android 12-based requirements. In practice, confirm the exact Android version and build offered by your regional download page.

MuMu’s international minimum requirements include Windows 7 or later, DirectX 11 or OpenGL 4.x, a four-core Intel i5-7500-class processor or better, VT enabled, 4 GB of RAM, 2 GB free on the installation disk, and 1.5 GB free on the system disk. For demanding games, MuMu lists GPUs such as the GTX 1050 2 GB or better for Tower of Fantasy.

MuMu documents possible compatibility issues with some AMD configurations and Surface devices that do not provide hardware virtualization. These are warnings about particular configurations, not evidence that every AMD or Surface computer will fail.

5. GameLoop: best for PUBG MOBILE and selected Tencent games

GameLoop is the specialist choice rather than the best general Android emulator. Choose it when your main target is PUBG MOBILE, Call of Duty: Mobile, or another officially integrated Tencent or Level Infinite title. Its value comes from title-specific optimization and controls, not from broad compatibility with arbitrary Android apps.

Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 8.1 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit Windows 8.1 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i3-8300 Intel Core i3-9320
Graphics GTX 1050 GTX 1050
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Storage 1 GB available space 1 GB available space

The 1 GB storage figure should not be treated as a comfortable Windows-wide allowance. Emulator data, updates, snapshots, and game resources need additional space. GameLoop’s support center has separate fixes for low FPS, missing accelerator support, stuck installation, version errors, Google Play Services failures, launch-screen hangs, DirectX 11 installation, graphics drivers, and insufficient system-disk space.

6. Android Studio Emulator: best for developers

Android Studio’s Emulator is the correct choice for app development, QA testing, API-level checks, device-profile testing, debugging, and automated tests. It is not the best tool for playing games: it lacks the gaming-first workflow and controls provided by BlueStacks, LDPlayer, MEmu, MuMuPlayer, and GameLoop.

Google’s current Windows requirements for Android Studio plus the Emulator include 64-bit Windows 10, at least 16 GB of RAM and 16 GB of free space, hardware virtualization, a post-2017 CPU architecture, and a GPU with at least 4 GB of VRAM. Google recommends 32 GB of RAM, an SSD with at least 32 GB free, and 8 GB of VRAM for a more comfortable setup. Windows PCs with ARM-based CPUs are not currently supported.

Create an Android Virtual Device

  1. At the Android Studio welcome screen, select More Actions > Virtual Device Manager. In an open project, use View > Tool Windows > Device Manager.
  2. Click +, then choose Create Virtual Device.
  3. Choose a hardware profile and click Next.
  4. Select a system image and click Next. Hardware profiles with the Google Play logo include Google Play Store and Google Play services. AOSP images do not.
  5. Adjust the configuration and click Finish.

To start an AVD from Windows Terminal, make sure the Android SDK’s emulator directory is on your PATH, then run:

emulator -avd avd_name

The alternative syntax is:

emulator @avd_name

When several emulators are running, target one with its serial number:

adb -s emulator-5554 emu avd status

Virtualization, Hyper-V, and Windows 2026 compatibility

Hardware virtualization is the first requirement to check. Restart the PC, enter the firmware setup, and look for one of these labels:

Do not disable Hyper-V automatically. The correct approach depends on the emulator:

  • BlueStacks 5.20 and later: designed to work with Hyper-V enabled or disabled. If an older build shows Incompatible Windows settings, update it through Settings > About > Check for updates > Download update before changing Windows.
  • LDPlayer 9: the 2026 compatible release can run with Hyper-V enabled, although disabling it may improve demanding multi-instance performance.
  • MEmu: its Windows 11 troubleshooting still recommends disabling Hyper-V, Windows Hypervisor Platform, Virtual Machine Platform, and Windows Sandbox when they are causing instability.
  • Android Studio Emulator: Google is moving Windows users toward Windows Hypervisor Platform. HAXM is no longer used by current Emulator releases, and the Android Emulator Hypervisor Driver is scheduled to be sunset on December 31, 2026.

If an older emulator requires Hyper-V to be disabled, an elevated Command Prompt can use:

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off

Reboot afterward. This can affect WSL2, Docker, Windows Sandbox, Google Play Games on PC, and other software that depends on Windows virtualization. Re-enable the hypervisor when those applications need it.

Which emulator should you install?

  1. Choose BlueStacks 5 if you want one broad, straightforward gaming-and-app emulator.
  2. Choose LDPlayer 9 if Hyper-V, WSL, or Docker must stay enabled, or if high-FPS gaming is your priority.
  3. Choose MEmu Play if you expect to run several instances and want to test DirectX, OpenGL, and Vulkan.
  4. Choose MuMuPlayer if the app specifically benefits from a newer Android version and the available build supports your hardware.
  5. Choose GameLoop for PUBG MOBILE and other officially integrated Tencent or Level Infinite games.
  6. Choose Android Studio Emulator for development, testing, ADB, and API compatibility—not as a general gaming replacement.

Common problems and practical fixes

The emulator says virtualization is unavailable

Check Task Manager > Performance > CPU first. If Virtualization is disabled, enable VT-x, AMD-V, or SVM in firmware. If it is enabled, another hypervisor, security product, nested virtual machine, or conflicting Windows feature may be involved.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

BlueStacks reports “Incompatible Windows settings”

Update BlueStacks first through Settings > About > Check for updates. This message is commonly associated with older BlueStacks releases and Hyper-V-enabled systems.

The screen is black, white, corrupted, or crashes

Update the Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA driver, then switch renderers. In MEmu, use Settings > Engine and test DirectX, OpenGL, and Vulkan. In BlueStacks, test the available options under Settings > Graphics. Lower the resolution, frame rate, or in-game quality, and make sure the emulator uses the dedicated GPU when the PC has both integrated and discrete graphics.

A game says the device is unsupported

Check both the Android version and the emulated device profile. In BlueStacks, use Multi-instance Manager to create an Android Pie, Android 11, or Android 13 instance as appropriate. The newest Android image is not automatically the most compatible one.

Performance gets worse after assigning more RAM or CPU

Leaving Windows without enough resources can make the emulator slower, not faster. Start conservatively—MEmu’s guidance is 2–4 CPU cores and 4–8 GB RAM per instance—and increase allocation only when monitoring shows a real benefit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Installation fails because of storage

Check free space on both the installation drive and the Windows system drive. Android images, snapshots, app data, updates, and game files grow after installation. MuMu lists 2 GB free on the installation disk and 1.5 GB on the system disk as minimums; GameLoop separately documents system-disk and PUBG installation failures caused by insufficient space.

Outdated advice to ignore

  • Windows Subsystem for Android is not the current built-in Windows 11 solution. Microsoft ended availability of WSA and the Amazon Appstore in the Microsoft Store on March 5, 2025.
  • Every BlueStacks installation does not require Hyper-V to be disabled. Current BlueStacks releases support Hyper-V configurations.
  • LDPlayer does not always require Hyper-V to be disabled. The 2026 compatible release can run with it enabled.
  • Do not install Intel HAXM as the default Android Studio acceleration fix. Current Emulator releases no longer use it.
  • Android Studio Emulator is not the best gaming emulator. It is a developer and testing tool.
  • Google Play Games on PC is not a general Android emulator. It is a curated gaming product with a limited catalog.

FAQ

What is the best Android emulator for Windows in 2026?

BlueStacks 5 is the best general-purpose choice for most Windows users because it combines multiple Android instance types, keyboard mapping, gamepad support, FPS controls, and multi-instance management. Choose another emulator if you have a specific requirement, such as PUBG MOBILE support in GameLoop or development tools in Android Studio Emulator.

Can Android emulators run with Hyper-V enabled?

It depends on the emulator and version. BlueStacks 5.20 and later is designed to support Hyper-V configurations, and LDPlayer’s 2026 compatible release can run with Hyper-V enabled. MEmu’s Windows 11 troubleshooting may still require disabling Hyper-V and related Windows virtualization features for some unstable systems.

How much RAM does an Android emulator need?

The practical amount depends on the emulator, game, and number of instances. Android Studio plus the Emulator requires at least 16 GB of system RAM, with 32 GB recommended. MEmu recommends assigning roughly 4–8 GB per instance for stability, but do not allocate so much that Windows runs short of memory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does an Android emulator say virtualization is disabled?

Intel VT-x, AMD-V, or SVM may be disabled in the computer’s firmware. Check Task Manager at Performance > CPU and look at Virtualization. If it is enabled there, investigate Hyper-V conflicts, security software, nested virtual machines, or incompatible emulator builds.

The Bottom Line

Install BlueStacks 5 unless you have a title-specific or developer-specific reason not to. Use LDPlayer 9 when Hyper-V compatibility and gaming performance matter, MEmu Play for flexible multi-instance configurations, MuMuPlayer for newer Android support, GameLoop for officially integrated Tencent games, and Android Studio Emulator for software development and testing. Before troubleshooting software settings, verify hardware virtualization and leave enough RAM and storage for both Windows and the emulator.
