If the Tom’s Hardware app crashes, will not open, stays on a loading screen, or rejects your login, work through the checks in order: verify your connection, restart the phone, update both the operating system and app, force-stop it, then clear Android cache or reinstall if necessary. Login problems need a separate check for expired cookies and account-migration issues.

The official app launched on 14 October 2026 for free on Android and iOS. Because it is new and the Tom’s Hardware account system has undergone migration, a failed sign-in can be different from an app crash. Identify the symptom first, then use the matching section below.

First identify what is failing

Use the symptom and scope of the problem to choose the shortest useful path. “Scope” means whether only Tom’s Hardware is affected or several apps and websites fail on the same phone.

What you see Check first Escalate when
The app closes immediately, freezes, or says it is not responding Restart the phone, install pending updates, then force-stop and reopen the app. The crash continues after reinstalling, or other apps work normally while only this app fails.
A spinner or blank screen never finishes Open another website, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, restart, and update. Connectivity is normal and the app still cannot load after a force-stop or cache reset.
Your password is rejected, verification loops, or sign-in returns an error Clear stale browser cookies/cache used by the sign-in flow and retry; check account-migration email details. Password reset still fails or no reset message arrives after checking spam and alternate inbox tabs.
Several apps and websites fail Troubleshoot the phone’s internet connection before changing Tom’s Hardware data. The wider connection problem has been fixed but this app remains the only failure.

Do not infer that the service is down merely from a loading screen. The available launch and support information does not confirm a current Tom’s Hardware outage or a version-specific defect.

What the app is and why a new-install problem may differ

Tom’s Hardware announced its official app on 14 October 2026. It is free on Android and iOS and is designed for phones and tablets. The announced features include article search, push notifications, personalized feeds, bookmarks, Tom’s Bench comparisons, and access to Tom’s Hardware Premium. The announcement says Premium includes longer-form coverage and unlimited Bench use.

This launch timing matters when diagnosing sign-in failures. A phone can have a perfectly healthy network and still carry an expired cookie or an account state left over from the sign-in migration. A crash, by contrast, usually calls for device and app-state checks first.

Run the safe recovery sequence

Apply one step, then open the app and test it before moving to the next. This preserves local data for as long as possible and shows which action changed the result. The sequence below follows Google’s recommended order for apps that crash, will not open, will not respond, or otherwise malfunction.

  1. Test the connection. Open another website and another app that uses the internet. If those also fail, fix Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity first. If they work, continue with Tom’s Hardware.
  2. Restart the phone. A full restart clears temporary system and network state without deleting the app or account.
  3. Update the operating system and app. Install any pending phone update, then update Tom’s Hardware from the device’s app store. Reopen it after both updates finish.
  4. Force-stop the app and try again. On Android, open Settings, choose Apps (or Apps & notifications), select Tom’s Hardware, tap Force stop, confirm, and launch it again. iOS does not expose an Android-style Force stop control; close the app from the app switcher and reopen it.
  5. Clear the Android cache. Go to Settings > Apps > Tom’s Hardware > Storage (or Storage & cache) > Clear cache. This removes temporary files, not your account, and is the least destructive reset after force-stopping.
  6. Synchronize date and time. In the phone’s Date & time settings, enable automatic date, automatic time, and automatic time zone. Incorrect device time can interfere with secure web sessions and verification.
  7. Clear Android app data only if needed. In the same storage screen, choose Clear storage or Clear data. Android may erase locally stored app information, so expect to sign in again and lose data that was not synchronized to your account.
  8. Reinstall as the final local reset. Uninstall Tom’s Hardware, restart if the phone requests it, install the current store version, and test before restoring other settings. Uninstalling can remove local app information.

If Tom’s Hardware is the only app still failing after these steps, contact the developer rather than repeatedly deleting data. Keep the phone model, operating-system version, app version, symptom, and the last step that changed the behavior available for support.

When Tom’s Hardware keeps crashing or will not open

Start with a clean, low-risk test

A crash on launch is different from a rejected password. Follow steps 1 through 4 in the sequence above, opening the app after each step. A restart or update can remove a transient process problem; force-stopping ensures that a hung instance is not reused.

Use cache clearing on Android

If the Android app still closes or freezes, clear its cache (step 5). Cache files are temporary, so this is preferable to clearing storage. Launch the app immediately after the cache operation. If it opens, leave account and notification settings alone until you confirm that articles, feeds, and bookmarks behave normally.

Reserve data deletion and uninstalling for persistent failures

Clear storage/data (step 7) or uninstall (step 8) only after the less destructive steps fail. Both can remove locally stored information. Account-backed information may return after you sign in, but anything held only on the phone should be treated as recoverable only if the app synchronized it. Record any account details you will need before deleting data.

iPhone and iPad handling

For iOS, use the cross-platform parts of the sequence: test the connection, restart, update iOS and Tom’s Hardware, close and reopen the app, and reinstall if the failure persists. The available guidance does not establish a Tom’s Hardware-specific iOS defect or an authoritative iOS-only repair. Do not apply Android menu names to an iPhone; use the current iOS app-management controls for deleting and reinstalling the app.

When the app is stuck loading

Separate an internet problem from stale app state

Open a known working website in the phone’s browser. Then switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, or from cellular data to Wi-Fi, and try again. A successful load on one network but not the other points to the connection path rather than the Tom’s Hardware account. If both networks work elsewhere, continue with a restart and updates before changing app data.

Force a fresh session

After restarting and updating, close the app completely and reopen it. On Android, use Force stop; on iOS, remove it from the app switcher before reopening. Android users can clear the cache if the loading screen remains. Clearing data or reinstalling is a later step because it removes local app state.

Do not assume an outage

The launch information does not provide a current outage notice, and no authoritative outage or version-specific failure is established here. If other apps work and Tom’s Hardware alone remains stuck after the local sequence, report the problem to the developer with the time, network type, device, operating system, and app version. That information helps distinguish a service-side incident from a device-specific state.

Fixing login, verification, and password-reset failures

Understand the account-migration effect

Tom’s Hardware’s sign-in migration discussion says that migration logged users out and expired cookies. A login prompt immediately after an update or reinstall can therefore be expected, but an old session cookie can also prevent a new session from completing.

Clear cookies and cache for a 500 error

If sign-in returns an HTTP 500 error, delete the cookies and cached data used by the Tom’s Hardware sign-in flow, then start a new login. This is a browser-session remedy, not a reason to erase all phone app data first. After clearing the session, enter the current account email and password rather than relying on an autofilled, previously stored session.

Password reset email never arrives

Check the spam or junk folder and search alternate inbox tabs, such as Promotions or Updates, for the registration or notification message. Confirm that the address entered is the one associated with the account. If the password-reset process still fails, the migration guidance directs users to contact community@tomshardware.com. Include the account email and the exact point at which the reset fails, but do not send a password.

“Unable to configure verification page”

Tom’s Hardware forum history records the exact message “Unable to configure verification page.” That discussion points to third-party-cookie handling and escalation to community managers or developers. Treat this as a case-specific historical workaround, not a universal current requirement: changing cookie settings can affect privacy and other sites, so change only the setting required by your browser and restore stricter blocking after testing if appropriate.

When the app works but the account does not

If articles load while sign-in, bookmarks, personalized feeds, Bench access, or Premium access fails, the network and basic app installation are probably not the first things to change. Capture the exact error, verify the email-inbox checks above, and use the support address for an account-specific reset problem. Reinstalling repeatedly will not repair a server-side account state.

Android and iOS recovery at a glance

Action Android iOS
Restart and update Restart the phone; update Android and Tom’s Hardware through the device’s standard update controls. Restart the iPhone or iPad; update iOS and Tom’s Hardware through the standard update controls.
Stop a hung process Settings > Apps > Tom’s Hardware > Force stop. Close Tom’s Hardware from the app switcher, then reopen it.
Remove temporary state Settings > Apps > Tom’s Hardware > Storage/Storage & cache > Clear cache. No Tom’s Hardware-specific cache-clearing procedure is established; close, update, and reinstall if necessary.
Delete local state Clear storage/data or uninstall; local app information may be erased. Delete and reinstall the app; locally stored information may be erased.
Secure-session check Enable automatic date, time, and time zone; clear sign-in cookies when a 500 error indicates stale session data. Check the sign-in browser/session path; no authoritative iOS-only fix is established.

Before you contact the developer

Support can act faster when the report distinguishes a crash from an account failure. Gather:

  • Phone model and whether it is Android or iOS.
  • Operating-system version and Tom’s Hardware app version.
  • The exact symptom: immediate crash, endless loading, 500 error, missing reset email, or “Unable to configure verification page.”
  • Whether other apps and websites work on the same network.
  • Whether switching between Wi-Fi and cellular data changed anything.
  • Which recovery step fixed, changed, or failed to change the behavior.
  • The approximate time of the failure and whether it affects one account or every account tested.

For a password-reset failure, use community@tomshardware.com as specified in the migration guidance. Never include your password, one-time verification code, or a full authentication token in an email or forum post.

What each outcome means

  • Restart or update fixes it: the failure was likely temporary device, process, or compatibility state; keep automatic updates enabled where practical.
  • Force-stop or cache clearing fixes Android: the app’s local temporary state was stale; your account itself was not necessarily damaged.
  • Only clearing data or reinstalling fixes it: expect to sign in again and rebuild any settings that were stored only on the device.
  • Only cookie cleanup fixes sign-in: an expired or invalid session was blocking authentication, consistent with the migration guidance.
  • Nothing fixes it while other apps work: document the exact error and escalate rather than repeating destructive resets.

Key takeaways

The official Tom’s Hardware app is a new Android and iOS release from 14 October 2026, with article discovery, notifications, feeds, bookmarks, Bench comparisons, and Premium access. For crashes and loading, use the least destructive sequence—connection check, restart, updates, force-stop, Android cache clearing, date/time synchronization, then data clearing or reinstalling. For login failures, account migration and expired cookies are central possibilities; a 500 error calls for cookie and cache cleanup, while a missing password-reset email calls for spam-folder checks and, if necessary, contact with community@tomshardware.com. The phrase “Unable to configure verification page” has a documented historical connection to third-party-cookie handling, but it is not proof of a universal current requirement.
